Warming the Cold Sammich

YHC almost missed this morning too (2 in a row). No family or pet problems today… just a flat tire on the truck.

Luckily we do this F3 thing in the gloom of morning, so moved the ruck to the M’s vehicle and continued on.

0530 hits and 4 are present. No sighting of the promised Kotter, maybe next time. (M had to go to work early)

We get the pledge in and take off toward Martha’s.

Past the maintenance shack and around soccer fields to end up at the playground. For a little repeat of Rudolph’s Sammich.

10 Merkins
15 Squats
20 Sec Hang

Back to the parking lot for a trip around it with some backward thrown in to return to the playground for another round.

Let’s go look for some Pubbers…

Looking at the time, YHC suspected Pubber spotting had passed, but there was still time for Gastone’s hill.

We made there, up and back with a few seconds to spare.

Announcements:
Operation Sweet Tooth coming up.

Prayer Requests:
Clavin’s M and family
Bandit’s friend’s family

Voodoo took us out.

Moleskin:
Bandit related that his friend had a 17-18 year old and within the last couple of years married his college sweetheart. Yet he took his own life.

Brothers,
We all struggle. We each have our own jesters and demons. But none of us battle alone. You have a shield lock of brothers.
Reach out to them/us.

John 10:28-29
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.

People who drink can’t estimate

So, YHC had the Q at The Sammich today and came rolling in to find 2 regulars, and 1 off doing EC. Soon thereafter, another regular eater rolled in. Figuring we were about set, YHC prepared to rollout.

Then YHC realized there was a familiar truck parked up near where participants of Neverland/Labyrinth park. Surely this was not a F3 guy as he only knows how to drink on Thursdays.

What should appear out of the gloom but a Pubber!

0530 hit and HIPAA was just rolling in from his EC. So we did the pledge and a trip around the building while he transitioned.

The we headed up Robinwood. Most thought we were headed to the stairs behind Robinson Elementary, but not today!

We continued to the Teeter. There at every corner-ish we did 5 squats and 5 merkins. Along the way, the Pubber was talking to YHC about the BRR and how there was a hill steeper than Gastone’s. It was “on the way back”, would put us behind Robinson Elementary and was approx 1.5 miles back to Snoballs.

Given we had 30 mins left, YHC thought why not…

Well…

We rolled in at 0620.

Sorry to all for the extra time.

Announcements were covered.

The Pubber took us…

Moleskin:
The new route was good and will be used again, just need to adjust the time at the Teeter

Thanks to all for the work and the opportunity to lead

I guess even Pubbers need to eat sometime…

Pavilion Chili Cookoff Pre-Blast

Bathrooms coming soon to the Pavilion!

The Rotary Centennial Pavilion has been home to the F3 Downtown workout since July of 2015, a few short months after the F3 Gastonia launch.  E4 was the original site Q before he handed it off to the elusive Spiderman who then turned over the reins to Bedpan.  By my calculations, F3 has posted over 200 Friday workouts at the Pavilion besides running through the site during our three 50 mile relays.

The big cheese, Sargento, happens to be the Nantan of the Gastonia Rotary Club this year.  Both Gastonia Rotary Clubs are raising money to install public bathrooms at the Pavilion soon.  Bathrooms would be a great thing for downtown as well as for any F3 PAX who routinely run late to the workout due to those “emergencies”.  (you know who you are)

To raise money for the bathrooms, the Gastonia Rotary Club is hosting a Chili Cook Off on November 2nd of this year.  I am aware that you should probably have bathrooms installed before eating chili but I am not in charge.  There are four levels of sponsorships, with $1000.00 being the “Four Alarm” sponsor.  I propose giving back to the Pavilion and raising money for this cause.  F3 Gastonia can assist in raising money for the bathrooms and if we meet our goal sooner rather than later we will be recognized in all advertisements and social media, leading to more exposure for F3 and hopefully draw in some FNG’s.

I am calling on all site Q’s to collect donations from PAX throughout the month of September until we reach our goal of $1000.00.  PAX may contribute cash or checks (made payable to the Rotary Club of Gastonia).  The good news is Diablo Sammich has already said they were going to raise $100, and that was immediately countered with a $150 pledge from the PUB.  The Coconut Horse then said they would raise $151.

The purpose will be to raise awareness of F3Gastonia and support the community through adding an amenity to the premier Friday AO in our region.

This initiative is “Nantan approved” as well as “Site Q approved”.  If each PAX that posts contributes something we should reach our goal in short order.  F3 is free so there is no obligation to give but Site Q’s please take up the collections and let’s hit this goal and put F3Gastonia on more men’s radars in our region.

Aye!

Ghost VQ

As YHC arrived, he found Whoopee off doing a little EC. Before YHC could get his ruck out and any stretching in, Whoopee appeared out of the gloom, followed by Dry Rub and Voodoo rolling in. Whoopee relayed he had to go in to work early, so he could not stay around for HoneyDo’s VQ. He said HIPAA offered to cover, but since there was no HIPAA, would YHC assist HoneyDo. In the meantime, Hush Puppy rolled in. Still no HoneyDo, but he normally cuts it close….surely he wouldn’t fartsack his VQ!

0530 hits, Whoopee rolls out and no HoneyDo!

YHC steps in and we head towards Union stopping at the bank to do the pledge. Taking a left on Union we ruck, stopping at the vet’s office to do 5 merkins and 5 squats. Continuing down Union turning on Huntsman to do another set of merkins and squats at the dentist office. Knowing Dry Rub needed to leave early, we had back via Rivermont and Valleywood stopping at the vet again for another round.
We drop Dry Rub off and continue down Riverwood, stopping at the old doctor office for another set. We turn around at River Ridge and get back to start with some time.
So we did some upright rows, LBCs, merkins, and squats. To finish up, Hush Puppy lead various forms of baby makers.

There are lots of announcements, although they are no listed here.

Voodoo took us out.

Embrace the Suck

YHC had decided to try the stairs behind Robinson Elementary again whenever he Q’d the Sammich. As luck would have it Whoopee was looking for a Q for today. (This was while Gastone was leading us to the same location for a beat down yesterday. c’est la vie)

4 were there when it was time, a few short with Dry Rub out and Whoopee “on call”, but we continue on.

No FNGs
No Disclaimer

A quick ruck to the bank for the pledge and we were off down Riverwood Pkwy.

As we approached Gastone’s hill the PAX was queried “before or after?” Not much was said, so YHC inquired again. This time DaVinci spoke up and said let’s get over with.

A quick trip up and back and we continued up Riverwood.
Frogger across Union and on behind Robinson Elementary to the stairs.

Elevens were done here with merkins at the top and squats at the bottom.

We then made our way back via Hawks Nest and Robinwood.

Time!

The announcements were summarized as this is a busy time coming up.

Prayer Requests
Dry Rub’s M for recovery
All those traveling.
Each Other.

YHC took us out.

It’s great to see DaVinci being a regular at the Sammich.

Until next time.

KISS workout

Keep it simple stupid.  Thought about just humping it for 4 miles at a good pace but 5 minutes in I realized that would be pretty boring.  We got to Gastones hill and humped it up the hill.  on the way back down we did 5 merkins at every driveway.  We humped it up the hill, across Union road, down past the school and over to Robinwood road.  Along the way we stopped and did some Merkins, some Squats. . . then some more Merkins, and some more Squats.  We got to the Vet hospital and did some more Merkins.  Then at the Pharmacy parking lot we did some heel raises on the curb.  Then down union, through the neighborhood, back around and to the Sammich shop for COT.

kept it simple.  We hustled, we squatted and we did merkins.  At one point Voodoo may have wined about the pace.  Oh, and there was some conversations about septic tanks.

!@$%@ Gumballs

5 HIMs showed to eat some Diablo Sammich this morning. Thought Hunkajunk was going to make it 6. Alas, when the clock struck 0530, we were still at 5.

Warmup:
We don’t need no stinkin’ warmup at the Sammich we are already hot and ready to roll…

Pledge.

Whoopee came ready to Q, but YHC had an idea…. Inspired by a recent visit to The Boar’s Nest. So…

The Thang:

Off to the back of Robinson Elementary following the surface streets. (I am sure those that run would have cut the corners and parking lots to make the distance shorter, but us ruckers make sure to go the entire the distance.)

I don’t know if the light was new or had been repaired, but the stairs down to the fields were actually visible, unlike when Gastone recently led all the PAX of SnoBalls back there.

Here we did 11’s with Merkins at the top and Monkey Humpers at the bottom.

0 for 1
YHC failed to account for the numerous gumballs at the bottom of the stairs and performed what was surely a graceful one-legged slide to the ground.
0 for 2
YHC had also managed to completely destroy his waist strap in the truck door, so both called exercises were an additional trial to prevent getting slammed in the head by the plate.

There was a pretty big suck factor on this exercise, so these need to stay on the list of to-do’s.

Headed up and around to Hawks Nest STEAM Academy and across Robinwood, heading towards Harris Teeter (well most of us did, for some reason XXXXX, (name redacted due to medical laws) thought we were going back to SnoBalls already)

Went around the Teeter, stopping at each of the “corners” to for 20 Squats.

Now it was time to put the “pedal to the metal” and head back to SnoBalls, managing to roll-in exactly at 0615.

BTW, no runners were visible (or harmed) during this event.

Announcements:
Monk’s going away party 31-May – Station in Belmont.
Tubing Event – 22-Jun.
Dry Rub VQ @ Bulldog 04-Jun.

YHC took us out in prayer.

Thank you for the opportunity to lead. A good bit of BRR-Rucking discussion/planning took place along the way. If interested, hit Roadie or Whoopee up for information.

Watts Up powering down.

Eat It!!!

Diablo Sammich, zero dark thirty. Let’s get to eatin!

We carried our rucksacks around the park, staying on the path for safety. YHC set his timer for 5 minutes. At each alarm we did 10 merkins with our rucksacking sacks on. It was great.

If you’re not going to run you might as well rucksack. That’s what Whoopee always says…I think.

It was a pleasure to be out here with you guys!

Sargento out!!!
