2 Nuts

Last night was not a good night for me. I wrestled in the fartsack all night-not the good kind that I used to strive for as a young (unmarried/lost) man accompanied by whoever I could convince to spend a little more time with me after that last song was played at whatever party I attended. This was the restless, uncomfortable, something-just-isn’t-right wrestling that makes you eventually get out of bed, go to the other room until you get sleepy, then go back to bed kind. However, I did not make it back to bed until after 4am. So when the alarm went off around 630am today, I was not in the best of moods and certainly did not want to get up to run 4-5 miles in the 40 degree weather. Fortunately I had set enough different alarm clocks that I finally managed to get up and hustle to get out of the house with enough time to make it to the Coconut Horse to find Billy Madison sitting in his car with a big grin on his face. Turns out, we were the only 2 to make it this am so we got to it. He proclaimed me the Q so we did the doG loop (same loop as always but started with hilly part going down on Robinwood Road). As usual, we started of with the typical chatter but eventually delved into the bigger and deeper topics about things like our family’s health, something called “assume innocence”, humility, and “bright spots” in our job that bring us back to why we started doing that thing we call work (have you had one of those experiences lately?). Running with Billy Madison is always a good experience for me. He is kind enough to not run too fast, likes to talk (so I can catch my breath on the hills), can ALWAYS identify with an experience as long as you tie it to some movie, and lifts my emotional IQ after the run. Today was no different. It was an ISI morning for me, although I felt more like the rock being pushed when we started. We did finish with a nice 1/3 mile “sprint” to empty the gas tank before getting back to start.

To all you fartsackers, hope you are rested for the week. Sundays are definitely a good day to sleep in and recover. Push it hard this week and post because you never know when you will be both the second and LAST to post at your workout and the other guy really needs you that day.

Warm Up: What’s that?

The Thang: We ran

Ended with COT and a quick prayer.

No excuses!

As my phone alarm woke me up at 6am on Sunday morning I looked at all my other clocks to read 5:00am. 1 hour of fartsacking lost to time change. Ugggh.

Next I looked outside and saw snow accumulating and still really coming down! Uggh.

My back had 18 stitches in it due to remove tomorrow… Uggh.

All good reasons that “the old me” would eagerly use to quickly jump back in bed and skip the workout.

But Palmetto200 is less than 2 weeks away and I made a commitment to post everyday this week. My F3 brothers push me and hold me accountable, and ultimately make me a better man. (Good bye “old me”, this “F3 man” does not make excuses!)

I pulled into the Coconut Horse at 7:00am sharp and found the parking lot empty and piling up with snow. I took my time to do some extra stretching and jog a few laps around the building. Laps may have eventually lead me inside the building and into the facilities. Perfect time killer to find Stroganoff pulling in as I returned outside.

We did a few more laps waiting for any other pax and then we “just felt like running”. Ice pelting us in the face caused the addition of eye wear which quickly accumulated snow and fog. Careful steps were taken around the frozen puddles and slippery spots as Stroganoff completed the 5 mile circuit (STRONG) and I returned a bit early completing closer to 4 miles.

Thanks for the push Stroganoff! I had some entertaining photos (aka proof) of our lunacy, but can’t figure out how to post them on here.

Still committed to post every day this week if anyone wants to join me on that challenge. I’ll see you out there! Blood EVERYWHERE

I am writing this backblast while Gastone is recovering in the intensive care unit (not really, but thought I would get your attention with that). I’ll start off by saying we are all fine, however, blood was shed this morning, and a lot of it.

It started out all fine and good. Stroganoff got in some EC while the rest of us were all just hanging out in the parking lot of the Harris Teeter. There was a quiet and calm feeling, like the calm before a storm. And a storm was brewing, my friend, was it ever. None of us knew it, but it was calm like no other calm has ever been in that particular parking lot…..basically, we did not have a lot to say so we started running.

We ran, and we ran, and we ran. Once we got finished running…..we ran some more. As usual, a few led the pack and a few stayed back keeping our comfortable mosey fellowship pace. And it was calm….I think I mentioned that above, but again, not much to say….so it was quiet also, and a little calm.

Somewhere along the way something strange happened. Gastone stopped running and looked back at me with a not-so-calm-and-quiet look…..and then I saw it, blood everywhere. Like a fire hydrant on Mars had been knocked over by a cement truck, red stuff spewing all over the place (Mars is the RED PLANET, everything is red there, right? I think I have read that somewhere). It kept coming, like diarrhea after a bad bunch of Chalupas, too many baskets of chips, and truckload of Tequila. It was coming from his hand, from his eyes, out his ears, and I think he was vomiting it also. It was awful. And it just WOULD. NOT. STOP…..Children were screaming, mothers were fainting, grown men were running (that was us, because this is a running AO). Gastone had stepped on some glass which got stuck in his shoe and was causing some pain so he stopped but most of us kept running because #1, this is a running AO, and #2, it didn’t really look that bad at the time. I think Madoff went back for him to make sure he was ok. The story is Gastone tried to push the glass back through his shoe thinking it was really a nail. The glass cut his hand in a couple places before he knew what was going on. He eventually got it to a place where he could continue running and then they took off.

Stroganoff led the pack and when he reached the end, he pulled a Forest Gump and kept running. As far as I know, he is still running. Madoff was the only one close enough to see him from the finish while Billy Madison and I kept a steady fellowship pace-he’s fun to run with because once you start talking, eventually some situation comes up where he can quote a movie, I get to try to guess it, and this leads to more distractions and before you know it, we have just gone another half mile. JK2 kept a solid pace in preparation for his upcoming half marathon. Gastone finished strong despite losing gallons of blood along the way. My advice, eat something with ketchup today. It’s red like blood and should help replace what you lost on the road today. And remember, I am a doctor. We know things.

Once we finished the running and recovered from seeing all that blood, we did 5 burpees because Gastone heard a train-I suppose it was real, but could have been a couple cats getting busy with some early morning action, who knows? We hung out for a little while then had a quick prayer and went our separate ways.

Although I did not Q this workout or lead the pack in any way at all, I was there and thought I should report things exactly as they happened, just for the record. And by the way, if someone sees Stroganoff this week, tell him he owes us 5 burpees.

Who else wants to join the fun?

YHC and Kiish started out with 3 miles of extra, extra, extra credit.

Whoopee joined them at the Teeter for 2 miles of extra, extra credit.

Stroganoff was picked up at his house for 2 miles of extra credit.

Finally, we picked up the PAX for 5 or 6 miles of the regular workout.

Fun was had by all. Good work men, you’ve earned some rest on this Lord’s Day.

Aye!!!

Sunday Stroll

Whoopee and Sargento got 2 miles of EC in before the regular run for half-marathon training.

At the appointed time, there were 5 total men present, the fresh of of IR Outhouse among them. Good to see you again brother! We started normally enough, there was a sandy V’ish comment about having to navigate a muddy stretch of grass before we got to the pavement. Just run.

Stroganoff had a dream about a flat run, so YHC made sure to have plenty of hills to conquer. You’re welcome.

We ran 6 miles. Good fellowship. Let’s do it again soon men.

AYE!!!

5 miles of fun run

3 Men Showed for the conditioning run to shake out all the sore muscles from some great Q’s over the last week.

The Thang: We ran 5 miles and Whoopee ran about .3 more.

Moleskin: Light crowd as we approach the holidays but we had good quality men at the location. Stroganoff led the way most of the time pushing the pace up the big Robinwood hill. It was a warm morning rarity that had us sweating in the winter.

Always an honor to Q but for this workout it is pretty simple.
