Service Ruck

As a part of the 40/50 day challenge I will be rucking for my service to others. This informational post is to invite you to do the same. Every Saturday that I’m able between now and Christmas I will be posting 1 hour before the main workout for an EC ruck. The service part comes in the form of what I will be carrying. I will be carrying food to donate. Hopefully 20-30 lbs or as much as I can fit. Can foods weigh different amounts and not all needs are canned food. I plan to bounce from Saturday to Saturday AO’s so please feel free to join me. If you would like to participate and I’m not going to be at the AO you are then please proceed anyway.  I will collect from you next time or you can donate to whomever you want. Right now I’m looking at donating to BREAD inc.  in Gastonia but this is also up for suggestions. Don’t have a ruck sack or bag? Well I have a sandbag we can fill up with food and carry together so come on out! I will start this Saturday at Folsom at 5:30. I will post on twitter and Slack where I’ll be after that. Come get your service ruck on!

Preblast for F3 Impact Challenge

@F3Gastonia

Modeled after the overwhelming success of the IronPAX challenge, F3 Coastal Empire has put together a challenge that will test your Region’s ability to give back to the community. We’ve proven that we can challenge each other physically. Here is a challenge that tests your ability to serve.

This challenge will be focused on 3rdF activities. There will be two challenges lasting 2 weeks each. The first challenge will be revealed on Sunday, 10/20. Pro tip: Get Creative once the challenge is released.

Let’s try this 3rd F challenge for the next 4 weeks. List your donations on their website www.f3savannah.com using F3 Gastonia region. If you prefer, we will also collect non-perishable food items for Mt. Holly CRO. Site Q’s collect and I will pick up and deliver. You can also follow on F3 Impact Challenge on Twitter.

Examples for first challenge:
Buying popcorn from the boyscouts. Donating jackets to goodwill. Collecting money as a group for a local charity. Canned food drive for your local food bank. Rounding up at the grocery store for charity. Unacceptable examples: not participating.

Here we go! Basic instructions on the challenge. Currently 18 Regions signed up. Where are you?

Preblast: Dredd to visit the Gashouse

Calling all PAX! On Thursday October 31st, Halloween, the original and still head Nantan Dredd will visit the Gashouse and speak to the Rotary Club of Gastonia. Come for lunch and the message!

Three and a half years ago Dredd and OBT spoke to our Rotary club and YHC hadn’t yet posted for my first F3 workout. I did end up posting that Saturday at Gashouse and the rest is my history. Obviously anyone who’s posted to an F3 workout and understands what a huge part of our lives F3 is appreciates Dredd’s vision and what makes F3 awesome.

YHC is now Rotary Club President and it’s time to bring back Dredd and Dark Helmet to share the F3 message for those who have heard him before but more importantly those who haven’t. Just like I needed to hear Dredd’s passion for why we’re made to be more than who we currently are as men, all of us know men who need F3. I invite all PAX and their visitors to come for lunch ($14) and the powerful message to follow. The meal begins as early as 12:00 and the program starts at 1:00, finishing at 1:30.

Please RSVP directly to Sargento if you can be there and any guests you’re bringing.

AYE!

Pavilion Chili Cookoff Pre-Blast

Bathrooms coming soon to the Pavilion!

The Rotary Centennial Pavilion has been home to the F3 Downtown workout since July of 2015, a few short months after the F3 Gastonia launch.  E4 was the original site Q before he handed it off to the elusive Spiderman who then turned over the reins to Bedpan.  By my calculations, F3 has posted over 200 Friday workouts at the Pavilion besides running through the site during our three 50 mile relays.

The big cheese, Sargento, happens to be the Nantan of the Gastonia Rotary Club this year.  Both Gastonia Rotary Clubs are raising money to install public bathrooms at the Pavilion soon.  Bathrooms would be a great thing for downtown as well as for any F3 PAX who routinely run late to the workout due to those “emergencies”.  (you know who you are)

To raise money for the bathrooms, the Gastonia Rotary Club is hosting a Chili Cook Off on November 2nd of this year.  I am aware that you should probably have bathrooms installed before eating chili but I am not in charge.  There are four levels of sponsorships, with $1000.00 being the “Four Alarm” sponsor.  I propose giving back to the Pavilion and raising money for this cause.  F3 Gastonia can assist in raising money for the bathrooms and if we meet our goal sooner rather than later we will be recognized in all advertisements and social media, leading to more exposure for F3 and hopefully draw in some FNG’s.

I am calling on all site Q’s to collect donations from PAX throughout the month of September until we reach our goal of $1000.00.  PAX may contribute cash or checks (made payable to the Rotary Club of Gastonia).  The good news is Diablo Sammich has already said they were going to raise $100, and that was immediately countered with a $150 pledge from the PUB.  The Coconut Horse then said they would raise $151.

The purpose will be to raise awareness of F3Gastonia and support the community through adding an amenity to the premier Friday AO in our region.

This initiative is “Nantan approved” as well as “Site Q approved”.  If each PAX that posts contributes something we should reach our goal in short order.  F3 is free so there is no obligation to give but Site Q’s please take up the collections and let’s hit this goal and put F3Gastonia on more men’s radars in our region.

Aye!

Here, There, and Everywhere

7 pax out for Labor Day weekend Q at Crossroads and Q Source on  “Candor”.

Broke took off..then Leppard was out of the gate, and I’m in the parking lot thinking I may have to run alone since my consistent running buddy is on retreat. Then Oopmah and Bedpan come in and ran together; I say I’ll run with Blart, but he hangs back to get his watch to sync; so I take off. Thankful when Pizzaman caught up to me and pulled me around Dallas.

Oompah left after the run, and Mayor joined us for Q Source.

We missed you, SA and Freight.. off on a retreat of his own to ponder a new decade. Happy Birthday!!

Backblast Yes or No

6/16/2019 Whitewater Center
There is an F3 Gastonia mountain bike text chain that goes out from time to time whenever anyone in the group decides to ride somewhere they can alert others to see if anyone would like to join them on their ride. On a sort of regular basis, someone in the group will announce a Sunday afternoon ride at the Whitewater Center around 2:30ish and a few guys will show. Some will say this is not and official AO so a backblast shouldn’t be allowed. You know who you are. Some will argue (sarcastically maybe, but it is difficult to tell) that F3 is a starfish organization where leaders can go out and start a workout and that doing so is the essence of F3, invigorating male community leadership! This post isn’t designed to settle that debate. It is merely to say if anyone wants to know about mountain biking in F3 Gastonia, here is kind of what happens. We usually meet just past the rest rooms about halfway down the last row before the hill but the lot was full so we parked near the Lake Loop entrance. Swimmer was running a little behind so Floppy and Freight were discussing the planned routes. Floppy and Freight go way back to at least middle school (I have the pics) and this extended relationship has determined certain strengths and weaknesses. One of Freight’s many strengths is planning and logistics. Somehow he knows the names of all the trails, where climbs are, where there are rocks, roots, signs, creeks, connections, etc. It is impressive. One of Floppy’s strengths (could be considered a weakness by his doctors but I would say it is a strength) is he is fearless on a mountain bike. No terrain is too tough, no hill is too high. He can put that bike wherever he wants and it is a sight to behold. Swimmer is another fearless type. They both attack a trail like they are racing for a prize. I digress. The route was announced and I hear East Main (which I vaguely remember as being terrible) and I hear Swimmer groan. Swimmer is not much of a talker so that groan told me a lot. Off we go to East Main and I realized why Swimmer groaned as I am pushing my bike up a curvy hill of a thousand rocks, hoping the others are waiting for the weak link in the group as I catch my breath. After East Main, we connected to Tributary, then out across the road to the newer trails, Panda, Smokey and Bandit which somehow connected back into Carolina Thread Trail. We took a shortcut off of that back to the road around the rapids and back to the parking lot for a little over 9 miles. No injuries despite one of us trying to ride through a mud hole unsuccessfully (wished we had a GoPro) and a black snake sighting!

We’re All In This Together

12 HIMS came out as we kept things moving at The Goat. Most of the activities were done in cadence with partners. How appropriate- considering that today was the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Tesla shared with us of a family member who was part of that momentous undertaking, and we realize how much those heroes had to rely on and support each other. They were all in it together.

YHC took us out.

As always, it was an honor to lead and to work out along side of each of you. I would encourage all HIMS to visit various AO’s and get to know your other F3 comrades. Also, look to Christ for your ultimate strength and relationship.

Looks Better on Paper

Good, solid group of HIMS at The Storm today. If you weren’t there, you were missed. Come next week. Tophat was suppose to have this Q, but had to go out of town, so YHC took it. I think I got a little overambitious, as we were suppose to complete the Stink Bombs, run to Goat, and do another routine across the bridge; but I guess it’s better to overplan than underplan.

Anyhow, things will run smoother when I Q in a couple weeks at The Goat, so come on out. It’s great to see our numbers growing in the Belmont area, and it seems we’ve had a consistent showing of FNG’s at all of the AO’s.
