Fighting Yank 9/04

Light crowd on a perfect Saturday morning, but still good crowd.  YHC led a warm up of SSH, IW, gravel pickers all 15X IC.  Five burpees and some stretching.  Hipaa take the Bunker, others follow me.

Mosey to bottom of hill at Myrtle Street.  Suicides up the hill, using the utility post on the side opposite the park.  10 hand release merkins at each pole, back to start for 10 big boys.  At top of hill, head across the street to wall at First Baptist.  Step ups each leg, Dips, 4 count squats, 10, 15 and 20.  Stay at the wall for suspension planks, and add five merkins.  5 burpees for the train.  Head back to the start.  Couple mins to spare, get in some Mary.

The Bunker boys re-join.  Pledge.

YHC tried to keep the group together by planking after big boys until everyone finished.  Bubba Sparxx been doing this, and Tesla too.  YHC likes the idea.  The workouts we do somewhat resemble life.  For some they are easy, for some they are hard.  But most Pax are some where in the middle.  But there comes a time for everyone when a little help is needed, sometimes a lot of help.  Going to pick up the six may be the man the picks you up when you need it.

Announcements:  Christmas town 5k, JJ5K, Hacksaw and Round Up 50 miler, service items for the month (crackers, fruit cups, applesauce cups)

Tuesday Morning

There is a store named that at Akers Center.

It sells girly stuff to decorate a house.

It doesn’t sell bat flippers or anything a bat flipper would likely need.

Stay on point old man…..0530 rolls around.

All home folks, no FNG. No disclaimer. Same missing Fartsacker faces. Come on guys. Man up.

Warm up: SSH in cadence called by yours truly.

Bear crawl up the sidewall to the tennis courts.

Twenty Ones with Merkins, LBC’s & SSH. Start with one of each, run longways to far side of tennis court. 20 of each. Run back. 18 & 2, 17 & 3, ad nauseum.

Just barely enough Merkins to make Wichita happy.  Enough LBC’s to make the tum tum happy. Enough SSH to make the legs happy. Enough running to make the Q happy. All sweated. Some complained. No injuries to report.

Perfectly timed for the 0615 finish. Back to flag. Pledge.

Prayer requests:

Westside on the loss of his dad. Service is today. Keep him in your prayers.

Spackle on the loss of his grandma. Coworker with heroin OD.

Mt Hollywood/Sandlot Labor Day Christmastown Beatdown

23 brave PAX set out to the uncharted F3 territory of McAdenville, NC to kick off Labor Day with a little something different.  Freon & Flintstone were your co-Qs.  Here’s what we remember…

Holidays are by definition a break from routine, so they are a great time to mix it up and do something different in the Gloom.  With traveling PAX and a vacation day for many, it doesn’t seem like there are lot of PAX chomping to get to Mt Hollywood or the Sandlot at 0530 on a holiday, so we decided to pick a common spot in the middle and push it back to a 0700 start.  McAdenville was an easy target, because it’s familiar, has plenty to do, and is about the same distance from both AOs, while also being relatively close to Dallas and Belmont.  We announced it early enough, scouted out the site, found a place to put some shovel flags and a place for Coffeeteria and we were ready to go.  We split the Q so Freon took the first half and Flintstone took the second and at 0700, we got after it.

The Thang:

  • 15 x SSH (IC)
  • 10 x Hillbillies (IC)
  • 10 x Toy Soldiers (IC)

Mosey to Poplar Street

Run up the hill, stopping at each telephone pole for

  • 5 x Burpees

Run back down the hill, stopping at each telephone pole for

  • 10 x Big Boys

Highlights of this routine included the random assortment of dead animals and some PAX channeling Rob Base with a little “It Takes Two“.

Next up was a Four Corners Escalator where we started off with

  • 10 x Groiners

Then ran to three more spots, repeating what we’d already done and adding one new exercise each time.  The others were

  • 20 x LBCs
  • 30 x Smurf Jacks
  • 40 x Jumping Lunges

The Smurf Jacks and Jumping Lunges were tough, but thankfully we were out of corners, so we headed next back towards the YMCA, stopping along the way for

  • 10 x Mahktar Ndiayes (IC)

We went up the steps to the back side of the YMCA and split into groups of 3 to utilize the concrete bleachers, the wall at the top of those bleachers, and the outer dirt track of what was once a baseball field all at once.  Each PAX took a turn being the Climber, Sitter and Runner.

  • Climber
    • 3 x dips
    • climb up and down the bleachers
    • 5 x repeato
  • Sitter
    • wall sits
    • 3 x wall sit marches every time Climber reaches the top
    • when Climber goes up for the 5th time, Sitter and Climber switch places
  • Runner
    • runs a lap on the dirt track
    • switches with one of the partners when he returns

Repeat the whole thing until everyone gets to do everything.

Following this, back for another round of

  • 10 x Mahktar Ndiayes (IC)

and the part of the Beatdown where Slaw starts counting in German.  Blart also had the Blarts, so it was just like Midoryama, but 30 degrees cooler.

Next, we went to the front of the YMCA to a concrete pad with walls on both sides for another couple stations

  • Station 1
    • Bear Crawl to wall
    • 5 x Dirty Hookups
    • Crawl Bear back
    • 5 x Derkins
  • Station 2
    • 5 x Monkey Humpers
    • Climb Wall
    • 5 x Air Presses

Do work in each station for 1 minute 30 seconds, then switch.

Back for more

  • 10 x Mahktar Ndiayes (IC)

as well as

  • 15 x Freddie Mercuries (IC)
  • 15 x Flutter Kicks (IC)

Repeat, with Station 1 staying the same, but station 2 changing to

  • Station 2
    • 5 x Burpees
    • Climb Wall
    • 5 x Hillbillies

Then more

  • 10 x Mahktar Ndiayes (IC)
  • 15 x Freddie Mercuries (IC)
  • 15 x Flutter Kicks (IC)

We moseyed back to the circle for a short round of Mary:

  • Watts Up – 15 x Dirty Dogs (each side – OYO)
  • Volt – 15 x Dying Cockroaches (IC)

The ruckers came back about halfway through COT, and that was that.

Announcements:

  • JJ5k
  • October 2nd – Convergence – Downtown
  • Lance crackers/applesauce/fruit cups
  • November 6th – Extinction Run

Prayer Requests:

  • Westide & family
  • Flintstone’s family w/COVID
  • Tooth Fairy & 2.0
  • Pockets friend
  • The family of Katie Sparrow

Moleskin:

Not sure how well lit it’d be at 0530, but at 0700, McAdenville was a great place to put in work.  Seems like it could be a prime spot for an AO, considering how close it is to all the corners of our region.  Regardless, I’d love to get back out there again on another holiday and explore some of the other spots.  Seems like a lot of the other PAX would too, as the ruckers and EC crowd all went exploring different parts of the area.

Strong work by a lot of men today.  Slaw was pushing the pace the whole time.  Lots of PAX picking up the Six.

Thanks for the support and the opportunity to lead.

Freon & Flintstone ( Yabba Dabba Doo )

9/2/21 Ambitious Goat

The Goat is one of my favorite AOs so when I assemble my weinke I always have more work to do than we have time.

Today was no different.   It went something like this.

Warm up with 20 Side Straddle Hop IC / 20 Imperial Walkers IC / 20 Gravel Pickers IC / 20 Moroccan Night Clubs IC

Mosey  towards the train bridge to the upper parking and pick up Maybelline whos coming in hot.  5 Burpees in the upper lot then down the stairs for 5 more Burpees.

Partner up for a little EXTRA.  Asked the pax to grab a partner to work through the next circuit with.  Someone to push, to pull, to encourage and challenge to give a little extra.  Time for Four corners.

Mosey down street to the back of Doffers.  Run around the block with stops for 25 Merkins / Flutters / Squats at each corner.  Start at Doffers,  end at fire station parking lot.

Round two would have been 25 Lunges / Plank Jacks / Freddie Mercuries…  Nope time is ticking.  Mosey to bridge.  Bear crawl as far as you can and lune walk the remainder of the way.  The bridges were wet and slippery so we tried to take it easy here.  Mosey to second bridge.  Another slippery bridge and it was dark so we took an easy mosey across to the back parking lot.

Partner DORA – 100 Jump Squats / 200 Mountain Climbers / 300 LBC

Head to the fence for Incline Merkins / Dips / Derkins NOPE running out of time.

Mosey back to the flag for American Hammers & Box Cutters before time is called.

The mumblechatter showed up in round 4, but they all enjoyed the 440 LBCs and 100 BigBoys!

Supporting each other

I picked up this Q for Ball joint due to an injury and I thought it would be good for us to remember that part of F3 is supporting each other.

Warm up:

10 SSH

10 Don Quixote’s

We moseyed to the Tennis Courts

Everyone selected a sand bag for the workout 20-25lbs. Then we teamed up and hit the following weighted workout. Partner runs full length of court carrying the bag.

200  LBCs/Suitcase carry

300  Presses/Shoulder Carry

400 American Hammers/Chest Carry

We then circled up and did Presses, arm extensions, burpees, sit ups, cherry pickers as pax called them out.

Candor with Love

We rucked, walked, or ran.  Then had a discussion on candor.

Ephesians 4:25

Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you uspeak the truth with his neighbor, for vwe are members one of another.

Liar!

8 showed up at Crossroads this Sunday. Some participating in the extra mile challenge and getting in the extra work. Some who said they would be there weren’t and stayed in the fartrecliner, I mean fartsack. The morning temps are getting cooler so it’s a lot better out there. After we meet and discussed candor, telling the hard truth, and why we lie. Great discussion this morning guys! See you next week, as I and hopefully some other Bourbon Chase runners, continue to ramp up for the race!

IPC week 0 at OS

13 showed up at Old School on Saturday for the CAPOOT WOD, week 0 of the Iron Pax Challenge. Even though this one was for practice guys were out there pushing the rock. The 6 was picked up and everyone got better! Next week at the same time at the same place we will do week 1. Come out and get some!

Rudolph’s junk

It was like the Wild Wild West this am at GasHouse. Roscoe and Shortsale did the IPC week 0 challenge, Les Nessman led the PainLab, and the rest of us were entertained?….no, serenaded?……a little, but not really, tormented?…..depends….. but no, molested and scourged?…..sounds about right. We were given more than a full serving of Rudolph at his finest, and he was not even the Q this am??!!  My ears are still burning, so I might not remember it EXACTLY as it happened, but this is what I remember…..

It was a dark and stormy night….., sorry, wrong story. It was actually very pleasant and far from anything resembling THE GLOOM. The sun was on its way, it was probably about 60-ish degrees, a few guys started coming in and then Rudolph arrived. It really wasn’t bad at first. But then…..WTF happened? There was talk about things I cannot put into print as I would prefer not to soil my family name. Just trust me, it was not pretty and my ears are still asking, no BEGGING for clorox to be poured into them. All I will say is this: Linus, watch your 6.

We started with the Disclaimer, a quick warmup, run through the 5 core principles of F3 for our FNG, then everyone went their ways.

For the Bootcampers, I tried to pick a fight to start with. We moseyed over to the usual spot of the PainLabbers and put on some good Luke Combs music while we did a bunch of step ups waiting for the PainLabbers to come take a butt-whippin’ but they never showed. We finished our step ups and moseyed over to the parking lot where the PainLabbers were and did some big boy sit ups right in the middle of them. They pretty much ignored us……..oh well, move on. We moseyed to the picnic tables for some more step ups then moseyed to front of Shiele and introduced our FNG to hip slappers. There were occasional pauses during our HS while we listened to some more GOOD MUSIC from Luke Combs. Next, we moseyed and nurred up to the track a Grier with a quick stop at the steps for a few trips up and down with big boys at the bottom and some jump squats at the top while we dodged the shrubbery growing on the steps. NOTE to self: bring some weed killer and a weed wacker next time. I think it was about this time Rudolph started his stuff…..I’ll leave it at that and chalk it up to #youhadtobethere.

We moseyed over to the picnic tables…..WTF????? somebody stole the picnic tables!!! Quick Omaha to the baseball dugout and use the dugout for some more step ups. I think at this point we went to the G-spot on the field for some Mary and again,….you had to be there/Rudolph started back in. Next we moseyed up to the track and the plan was to lunge the track with merkins for relief whenever your legs got tired. I explained the simple point system for this exercise and we took off. Eventually we sprinted/ran/jogged the last 100-150 yards. It was close to time so we went back to the steps for a few rounds then moseyed back to start with some People’s Chair and Hip Slappers before get back home for just a couple rounds of Mary.

We finished with announcements, Pledge, and COT then named our FNG, Jeff Joyce, Slick.

Oh yeah, we also did Namorama (thanks Roscoe and Shortsale)…….
