F3 Dads 2022 > Year Plan

Hey all – Just wanted to put this out there and give some details to what I am thinking for this year.  Take a look and let me know if you want to add anything, help in anyway, etc.  This will be my third year and I am looking to try and make this one a little bigger and more involved, but after this year, I will be looking to pass the reigns to the next leader.

March Service work at AOs.  We did this last year, but we didn’t get many results.  The point of this is to get out in AOs you frequent and improve them by picking up trash and showing the community and our children what it is to care for something, how to care for something and taking responsibility for something.  I am  thinking about just the Saturday workout areas so the community can get more visibility of  us out there working out, sees us out there with our kids putting in some beautification and not just using free space.  If you want to hit a M-F work area, awesome.  Take the lead and make it your own.  I am looking at March 12 or March 19 (weather dependent) at 10:30.  If enough people make a showing or discuss as a group, we can organize and meet somewhere for lunch.

April/May – Maybe a spring fling style thing with some field day events and categories for age brackets. I’m always looking for things to do. Probably need help with this one. I am not all that creative. Maybe this could be a family event for all.

Dad Workouts:  June (6/18),  July (7/23) and August (8/20).  I need two dads to help out with each workout.  We will continue to run around to each AO.  I dont know the rotation yet, but will get that dialed in.

September- Dads night at the Honey hunters

October:  Fall fling .  See April or May above.

Only thing to note about the spring and fall is getting tents and games and a location that can accommodate, but doesn’t charge.  Again, if anyone wants to help, please let me know.

Also – If you have something coming up that would be cool, put it out there and see if anyone shows.  If so, great.  If not, you and your kids will still have a great time.

4 More Minutes!

13 lucky PAX enjoyed a gloomy beatdown at the Goat.

Warmups included SSH’s, American Hammers and Imperial Walkers.  Orangeman helped YHM out with Abe Vigodas because at my last Q some mumblechatter was questioning my cadence speed.  Now we all know the correct speed so time to mosey to the bottom of the hill.

Suicide BLIMPS doing using the light poles for markers.

5 Burpees

10 Lunges

15 Imperial Walkers

20 Merkins

25 Plank Jacks

30 Squats

Mosey to the church parking lot at the top of the hill for some AB workouts.  More American Hammers IC , WW1’s OYO,  Flutter Kicks IC and slow LBC’s IC.  Mosey back to the start.

Circle up.  One PAX calls out an exercise and runs around the circle, all others do the called exercise while he is running.  Rotate through all PAX, pretty diverse exercise calling – nice work men!

Still 4 minutes left – mosey across the bridge to the pavilion.  50 step ups and 15 dips OYO.

Still 4 minutes left, YHM may have messed that one up.  Mosey back to the start with a Bernie Sanders on the way.  1 minute plank to finish it up.

Humbled and honored to serve, thank you for the opportunity to lead.

Groups

Sunday morning, January 23rd still reeling from blizzard #2 in our area with snow and ice scattered along the ground, especially in the shaded areas. It was just below 20 degrees outside and the Q chose the “Smart-Sack.” I’m not one of Hal’s students in training for this upcoming marathon, basically creating my own training routine which has to do a lot more about when I want to run. I’ve been studying the weather in Biloxi, MS and the forecast calls for high forties and clear at this point. Better to train in the right conditions – or at least that’s one of my excuses. So, I ask myself, why do I want to run when it’s in the teens and dance around ice and snow? Or maybe it was the red wine I had the night before – which for a Bud Light guy apparently there are lessons to be learned as a 50-year-old (note to self – red wine is for communion, never have more than a shot or maybe a social glass). I arrive into the parking lot of the Teeter to see Whoopee and EZ Rider dancing around trying to stay warm despite their soaked shirts beginning to freeze to their bodies like ice cycles. Flintstone drives up – he got the message – not the red wine part, but the smart sack part – good man. Roscoe’s vehicle was in the lot and I knew he had 11 miles today. We decided to wait inside where it was warm. EZ takes off for church and we discussed the QSource topic of Groups.

Main things to know are three types of groups. Man is hard-wired to seek the Advantage incumbent in Group membership. Different Group-types provide different Advantages. Community is like your neighborhood – proximity is an important factor. But not necessarily a mission to do something. An Organization is two or more people that voluntarily combine for the accomplishment of an articulated purpose. Unlike Communities, the Members of an Organization are defined by their shared mission not their Proximity. Last are Teams which are dynamic with a goal to perform a specific mission for the benefit of a Community, an Organization or both.

Whether a leader is concerned with the health of his Community, the Effectiveness of his Organization or the dynamism of his Teams (or all three), the QSource provides a framework for him to more skillfully influence of Movement to Advantage–which is the heart of leadership.

Sword 1-24-22

Nine PAX gathered at The Sword this morning for a run or ruck and to discuss the book of Proverbs.

Instead of choosing a specific verse to discuss this morning, YHC decided to discuss the importance of daily bible reading and specifically the book of Proverbs. If you don’t have a daily reading plan, or are unsure of where or how to start, try reading in the book of Proverbs each day. In Proverbs, God teaches us principles that will bring us peace and contentment, rebukes us for our sinful acts, teaches us how to live, and trains us on righteous living.

I’m Broke

Dog ate my homework

The dog ate my homework – probably one of the lamest and oldest excuses of all time. We are all human and make mistakes. But excuses don’t help anyone. If you mess up, acknowledge the shortcoming, do what you can to fix it and make amends, and then move on.

So this is how it started at 5:29:45am when I arrived at Tequila Sunrise, being reminded that I had committed to Q. No problem, we are all here for some 1st F and that is what we got.

Warm up in the parking lot: SSH x12, windmills x10, americans x10, imperial walkers x10.

Next we partnered up for Dora using the outer row of the parking lot as a track. One partner ran a lap while the other partner exercised rotating after each partner completed the lap. We completed 100 diamond merkins, 200 squats, and 300 american hammers in total. We said the pledge and did 5 burpees for the passing train.

The thang: to the hill on Assembly St in Eagle park for triple nickel with bobby hurleys at the bottom and big boy sit ups at the top. Sssshhhhhhh

Back to the school for a rotation including 12 reverse grip incline merkins in cadence, 10 step ups OYO, and 10 hip slappers against the wall. This was repeated x2 times. Finished in circle with some mary.

Announcements: Primal Fri at 5, Q school moved to 2/5, Smarter than a 5th grader postponed, 15 available spots for mountain weekend contact Sargento.

Prayers: Pax on IR, Tesla and his family, Huckleberry’s father, many others dealing with sickness and injury. Praise for the triplets.

COT

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night…

These were some unexpected circumstances to be sure. The weekend before, the weather peeps called for everyone to batten down the hatches and prepare for snowmageddon. This time around, they hardly even mentioned a chance of anything for our area. Well Friday evening it started snowing. And kept snowing. And kept snowing. And kept snowing until the SE part of the county had a solid 3″ of the white stuff. When YHC went to bed, it looked like the chances of making the treck to Folsom would be in danger of not happening.

5:30 came and the morning routine started like usual. YHC was thinking of how to conduct a remote Q so the PAX could get some sort of work in. What to do, what to do. When the garage door was opened and an analysis of the conditions was held, it looked a little better than expected. The road snow had settled down a litte so that it wasn’t totally white. Maybe there was a chance. When the radar seemed to indicate that the northern part of the county may not have gotten it as bad an YHC’s hood, the decision was made to give it a go. Better get on the road early so that careful slow driving could be done. Let’s do it!

After a mostly uneventful drive to the norhtern territory, YHC pulled into the Folsom area to be greeted by Balljoint running around getting in some EC. There were a few other trucks in the lot ready to get some work done. At the start time, there were 5 HIM ready to push the rock. This is what happened…

After a little chatter, it was determined that the covered picnic shelter at the bottom would be a perfet venue for what YHC had cooked up. It had light and was ice free. Excellent!

The Thang – The Frozen Deck of Death!!!

To keep moving around in the ice to a minimum, YHC picked the Deck as a good method for madness. The format was that we’d do a specific exercise per suit. It went like this:

  • Spades – Merkins
  • Diamonds – Big Boy Sit Ups
  • Hearts – Lunges
  • Clubs – Goofballs

To accompany the work, YHC broght the trusty JBL Flip for some musical vibes. Volt really appreciated most of what was played for sure. We made it all the way through the deck with enough time to give another round a go. This time it was like this:

  • Spades – CDDs – aka Def Leppard merkins in honor of the former Nantan who is on IR for the time being
  • Diamonds – LBCs
  • Hearts – Squats
  • Clubs – Plank Jacks

We finished with just barely enough time and then we headed back to the start. Way to push it men!

Prayer requests- Def Leppard’s wrist, Huck’s dad, Gumby’s back, Big Pappy’s mom, Wichita’s mom, Chloe’s tumor behind her knee

Announcements – Q School rescheduled to February 5th, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader rescheduled to May 3rd, Rooster relay in Rock Hill, Flat Rock retreat February 18-20 has 15 spots remaining

As usual, even when it’s unsure whether it’s smart to post or not, YHC was super glad he pushed the envelope to make it to the workout. We had great fellowship and mumblechatter and everyone got better. AYE!!!

Mayor Channels Eddie The Eagle

It was icy and cold at Old School this morning.   Original plans had to be scrapped so we did some work under the shelter.

Under the shelter we did:

  • Step Ups
  • Dips
  • Hillbillies
  • Merkins
  • Big Boys
  • Burpees

We did lunge walks between light posts. During one set, Mayor almost went down but had a wonderful recovery.

It was all caught on slow motion video.

Mayor’s Close Call

There was lots of great chatter with normal conversations of DDP, Purple Haze’s shoes, and deep discussions on donuts and livermush. It was morning YHC was grateful that these HIM’s made it out to the gloom.

We finished up with the Pledge and COT.
