6 studs

Six studs showed this am for some Diablo. We started with the Pledge then took off at lightning speed headed for the dreaded Hill de la Gastone….once we got there instructions were given: every mailbox on right do 6 exercises of your choice-any exercise, 6 reps, every mailbox. We got to the top then did some flutters then headed back down and off to the right, then up to Food Lion. We got to the parking lot by Planet Fitness and did some 6 corners, barely avoiding a single guy in a fast car getting some $$ at 6am at an ATM. We also saw a lone Pubber that looked a lot like Roscoe. As much as we see him during Diablo, he should be given credit for posting with us. We had some deep discussions about some hot topics-lots of opinions and perspectives were both shared and discussed. We headed back to start and hit the wall for some dips and step ups, circled the bank a few times with some other exercises, and made it back in time for COT.

It was only after completing the workout we were notified it was Les Nessman’s 45th birthday….I guess he didn’t want to do 45 reps of anything.

This morning was really good-I enjoy hearing others’ opinions especially when it comes to controversial topics. Although I (sometimes) get a little passionate (read: loud and obnoxious) when discussing these things, I really enjoy hearing why other people feel the way they do….except Freight. He doesn’t really have an opinion so  much as he wants to argue the other side of whatever topic is being discussed. The fact that he can argue either side and still enjoy it is even more frustrating to me. I wonder if he realizes that…….probably not. He would never do something like that just to irritate someone.

We ended with COT. Happy Birthday Les Nessman. Glad we have you out here to share your opinions and experiences while we all try to get a little better each day.

Shoot ’em Up

OK all you rednecks and gun toting bearded beasts-

It’s finally here. We’ve got a date for the first shoot ’em up event, hopefully the first of many. This first one is going to be at Foothills Public Shooting Complex on Saturday, September 12. They open at 930 AM so the plan is get there around 930 AM, sign in and get set up to start shooting ASAP. Bring your own lunch and we can use their pavilion and eat lunch there at 12 noon. Anyone that wants to stay and shoot in the afternoon can do it, but I’ll probably have some chores to do and head out after that. By chores, I mean I’ll probably take a nap and get ready for the Tyson vs some other old man fight event at Allen Tate’s house that night-see a separate pre-blast from Huckleberry. I’ll be bringing my 9 mm pistol, 30-06 rifle, and .22 rifle. They also have skeet and trap if you are interested.

https://foothillspublicshooting.cc/ should get you to their website. Need to get on there and sign the waiver thing ahead of time.

Here are some specifics:

Date: Saturday, September 12: 930 AM

Fees:

$12 Admission

$5 per round of skeet/trap (25)

$10 steel target range (pistols only)

$2 lane fee

$1 for extra targets

Address: 283 Fielding Road, Cherryville, NC 28021

Bring your own gun, check out website and sign waiver ahead of time, bring your own ammo (they have some but may still have limited quantities in 9 mm), make sure you have right kind of ammo.

Pack a lunch and we can eat at their pavilion together after couple hours of shooting.

Let Whoopee know if you are a HC. If we have more than 15, I will need to make reservations.

Hope to see you there-Whoopee

Diablo Britches

We had a good crowd, mostly rucked, did a few exercises, and solved some problems. The fellowship with rucking is unique. Come try it out whether you are in Dallas or GasHouse, give it a shot.

July 2

We did not do a namorama-Q fail. And it is very late. Dang, not a good example. If I am lucky, no one will read this…..ever. It was July 2 and I believe we had the regulars.

Good Music

Yes, there was music. All would agree there was at least some good music if only because I ended with some Rush with Tom Sawyer just because the guys tolerated my George Strait without any real complaining. However, that is not what I will remember about this workout. Here is what I will remember….

We gathered around for a few minutes before it started. There were a few Kotters…..Wimpy and Dr. Feelgood. HIPAA and Shortsale were there on injured reserve (sort of). Shortsale is working back from a knee thing and HIPAA went through that gender reassignment surgery recently. HIPAA seems to be handling that well and we are all proud of him….her…..it….whatever…..we are proud of HIPAA anyway. There were the usual PAX hanging out getting ready for PainLab or bootcamp. I also saw what I thought were 2 FNGs-one was with Stroganoff and was getting the usual pep talk about what to expect. The other guy was part of the crowd but still off on his own and a bit quiet. He did not really look nervous like an FNG, however I did not think I knew him. I started with a quick disclaimer and made a point to say I thought there were 2 FNGs……then I heard the second guy speak up and immediately knew he was not an FNG. It was Brownstreak with a beard that ranked up there with another PAX named Jeremiah Johnson who departed from us recently but left his little brother JJ here in his place. Honestly, I almost ran up and gave him a hug. Can’t tell you how many times I have thought of him or spoken about him. We spent several years together with many of the other PAX growing the region. He was a big part of our region’s success. And then he was gone. We reached out to him, not just me but several of us did. I’m sure he was going through some stuff like we all do. He would surface every once in awhile and then he was gone. In all honesty, I tried to get him back out here. He needed us and we needed him. I am sad and embarrassed to say I eventually gave up on him. I don’t have a good excuse. Is there a good excuse? Ever? I can tell you this-I was thrilled he chose Bootcamp this morning. He and I both knew it was going to be tough to get out there and do the bootcamp thing when he was a bit rusty. But he did it. Not only did he do it, he spent some time with the FNG and I am sure the Gator was better for it. If Gator does not come back I will be surprised. Why? Probably because of my music choices, and maybe….just maybe because he and Brownstreak spent some quality time together which is what this F3 thing is really about. The quality time you spend with your F3 brothers is going to be what you remember when you move into the last quarter of your life. You will remember things like BRR, The Moron, Tuna 200, Palmetto 200, The Moron, Rucking the BRR, Crowder’s Ridge CSAUP, The Mortimer, slip N slide at GasHouse, The Moron (did I already say that???). Those are things that put a smile on my face when I am falling asleep in my nice warm fartsack safe and sound in the great country of ours. The workouts that we go to help facilitate these relationships that lead us to do stupid stuff that makes us better men. It is ISI at its best. But it requires us to be together which is really my point-reach out to that Kotter you have not seen in awhile. Bring that friend from church or work that has never been here. Introduce him to these guys and make sure he comes back. And don’t make the mistake I did by giving up on him when he does not show up. If you have to, go to his house and do Monkey Humpers in his front yard until he comes out to run you off-we did talk about doing this but never followed through. Could have been another smile-maker if we had…

As far as the details of our bootcamp, we did some running, some hip slappers, derkins, merkins, squats,….and other stuff. My favorite was a new thing called “The Fireman” where we went to the steps at the church and ran up and down the steps, did a burpee, ran up and down the steps, did 2 burpees, and kept increasing burpees each trip down. We did this while listening to the song “The Fireman” by George Strait. One other highlight was at the end I turned off George Strait and put on some group you probably never heard of called Rush……this put a smile on Stroganoff’s face, he started running, jumping, and singing like he actually enjoyed the noise coming out of the speaker????!!!!

Get that Kotter back out here.

thanks for posting Brownstreak-hope to see you real soon.

Merkin Mania

2 started with EC then another 5 showed for a total of 7 posting at The Goat. It’s been a REALLY long time since I have Q’d or even posted here. It was great getting back out there-thanks Buckeye for giving me a little nudge to come out here. We started with a disclaimer, WU, and pledge. We then took off for a Merkin-fest. We took a few laps with 25 Merkins at each of the corners. Honestly, I thought there were 4 corners last time I was here….someone stole one of the corners. There were only 3???? We made it work. I think we also threw in a few flutter kicks. At some point we saw 2 trains!!! I know, strange. We saluted the first with 5 burpees, moseyed a little and saw ANOTHER TRAIN!!!!?????? Can you believe that???? 2 trains pretty much at the same time. If we had moved just a little faster I think there was a 3rd train but we didn’t get there in time.

We then moved over to “the wall.” Roscoe gave us a quick history lesson-for those of you young kids who were not around, we ALLEGEDLY did donkey kicks on one of the walls, got busted, and had to pay a few hundred dollars for a fresh coat of paint a few years ago. Bandit handled this PR nightmare like a pro and fortunately we did not get booted off of Goat Island. Rather than tempt fate this morning, we used the steps for some partner work. P1 did Merkins AMRAP while P2 went up the stairs for a burpee or 2 for a few rounds each. Next on the menu was some work at the top of the stairs in the parking lot. We did a version of 11’s but I think we cut this short-Hip Slappers  starting at 11 and working our way down with a short mosey to the other side of the lot with 25 flutter kicks on the other end of the parking lot. Next we moseyed to the bridge for a few more merkins: start on 1 end of the bridge with 3 lunges to each leg then do 10 merkins. This. Took. Forever. To. Get. Across. The. Bridge…….Once across we slowly recovered with some hanging time, more merkins, some derkins, calf raises then moseyed back home for a few burpees then finished up with a  short plank while we discussed the 5 rules of F3 while planking.

We finished with COT-special prayers for Vanilla Ice with his job interview-middle school English teacher. Hope it went well. Roscoe and I figured we got just under 300 merkins this am. Very good work men. Hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for the opportunity to lead and bring back some good old memories from “back in the day.”

Blood Everywhere

Good crowd this am-little mumble chatter, lot of work, and then there was blood…..keep reading.

We started with a simple disclaimer…because that is what we do. We all claim to be idiots…..and we are not wrong. However………I’m not sure what point I was going to make so maybe I’ll just stop there. As I am not very fond of warmups, I kept it short this am. We did some SSH, flutter kicks, then Merkins and then took off like a flash…..and then stopped quickly for the Pledge. Then we took off like a flash…..again, heading for “the hill” (insert threatening music:da da daaaaaaa). On the way there we may have done some plank or other exercises just to keep the group together. Upon arrival to “the hill” (again, insert threatening music: da da daaaaaaaa), instructions were given to partner up, but keep some distance. We would start at the bottom and P1 would run to mailbox #1, do 10 Merkins then run back to start. P2 would be doing AMRAP any ab exercise until P1 returned at which time they would swap duties (not doodies, remember-keep your distance). We would escalate to 20 Merkins, then 30 Merkins and then after Defib agreed with an evil smile (again, threatening music: da da daaaaaaa), we did 40 Merkins. There were some complimentary phrases that were spoken about the Q (aka: me) during this time, but I’ll keep those to myself as this is a “family show” right?

After completing the above fun stuff, we moseyed back to start with some plank and jump squats along the way. When we got back to start I asked Easy Rider (I think) to pick a spot on the wall, any wall, at Pelicans. We kept our partners, and P1 stayed at the wall. Somehow we picked Gastone’s name for the car part of this and the exercise was for P1 to do AMRAP HIP SCHLAPPERS (all caps means you have to YELL that while you are reading-tell your M I said your welcome if she gives you grief for this while you are reading this now) while P2 bear crawls to Gastone’s Prius (he lost his man card and now drives his sister’s Prius) then mosey back. It was at about 3 HIP SCHLAPPERS that I heard TSquare scream like someone was pulling his toenail’s off. It was awful. I looked up as I heard something about “ketchup” to see TSquare tilt his head back while this red stuff was spraying out of his face covering everyone in sight with blood. Stroganoff fainted and Gastone started doing mouth to mouth on him. Defib jumped into action and did chest compressions on Dry Rub, although Dry Rub was not really having any problems at all. I think Defib’s reflexes just kicked in and he felt like he needed to do something. There was too much blood to get close to TSquare. Outhouse took off running with Time Frame into the woods. I think the blood made them nauseated. They came back a little while later once the bleeding had stopped.  Easy Rider, Watts Up, and Steubing kept on hip schlapping like there was nothing going on at all. Finally the bleeding stopped when TSquare shoved half a towel up his nose-it looked painful but got the job done. So much for schlappers……TSquare is not allowed to do those any more.

We moseyed to Clavin’s hill in the park next. At the bottom we did 5 Merkins then climbed the hill and did 10 Mountain Climbers then back to start. After 5 more Merkins we went up for 20 Mountain Climbers. We repeated this for I think 30 then 40 Mountain Climbers with 5 Merkins between each set. I think we did more mountain climbers but can’t remember how many-seems like it was a lot. My stomach was still a little upset about what happened with the Hip Schlappers, TSquare’s nosebleed, and the interaction (pick whatever one you want) that happened in the parking lot. I really just wanted to get away from these guys at this point so I started to run…but they kept following me…..all the way to the picnic tables. We passed Stroganoff’s mom and aunt. I made sure they knew some dude named Steven Long was my hero. Mom’s like that kind of stuff….even when it’s not true (especially when it’s not true). Mom’s often know they have a loser for a son but for a fleeting moment they can smile and live in that fantasy world that makes them think their son is something special…..not that this was one of those times though (wink wink).

At the tables we did some step ups and Derkins until Defib picked the right number. We moseyed back to start with some jump squats along the way then finished with the COT.

We had a quick namorama, prayer for family members of PAX and several PAX as well, and then took off. Not sure, but I think there was some ketchup on the wall. Hopefully it will rain soon.

Lake Whoopeegonagetcha

7 REAL MEN showed for another Diablo Sammich. There were some words btwn Whoopee and Oompa earlier in the week, so I was happy to see a good crowd. We took off with our rucks and a little something special for Oompa. I think we got 2.52 miles in with a short bit of arm/shoulder work. I threatened to bring my angry eyes but the best I could come up with was the rock I got from Dr. Feelgood at our CSAUP at Crowder’s Mountain that said “keep pushing.” We never saw Oompa but I was able to hand it off to Sargento who delivered it to Oompa for me.

Once we got back to start (or just before we got going, can’t remember when), Sledge got a little close to me near the puddle at Pelican’s so I did a quick jump in the puddle and got a teeny, tiny, iddy, biddy little bit of water on him…..he got me back a little later.

COT then we were outta there.

thanks guys-Whoopee

7 11’s

Well it’s been awhile since I have Q’d at Sandlot….heck, been awhile since I’ve Q’d period. Got into a slump…whatever. It was good to be back out here with a little responsibility instead of fartsacking or just posting. I was not nervous, more embarrassed that it has been so long. I got over it and showed up almost late….forgot my gloves and had to run back to truck to get them. Howdy FNG, let’s get started.

Introduction, 5 rules of F3 for the FNG compliments of Sargento then PLEDGE and  warm up: SSH, Merkins….don’t get up yet……mountain climbers, big boy situps, then we are off. Mosey to 7/11 for 7 elevens: 11 Merkins on 1 end, mosey through the gas fumes to the other side then 11 Big Boy situps on the other end for a total of 7 sets of exercises. Plan was to mosey to the dilapidated pharmacy but too much traffic and not interested in Frogger this am-OMAHA to the Planet Fitness parking lot and mosey around half way, lie on the ground and feel how comfortable the new parking lot it (take that Folsom, it. felt. GOOOOOOOOOD.) Get up and mosey around to the wall for some (thank you Watts Up) HIP SLAPPERS!!! 3 rounds of 10 reps with mosey across the lot between sets then heck, why not? Do a 4th set of hip slappers then mosey on over to Food Dawg for some 3LB…..what is 3LB you ask????? Why let me tell you…3 Lunges (right, left, right) then a burpee. 3 lunges then 2 burpees, 3 lunges then 3 burpees…..We went to the 3rd light pole thanks to Sargento. After hitting 5 burpees we Omaha’d to 6 lunges because I was almost crying. We moseyed back to Planet Fitness for some Bulldog Merkins (legs on the wall like a Dirty Hookup straightened out then 3 merkins) then mosey across the lot and back. Think we did 3 sets: note to self-put hands back a little or else it is a problem. Next, mosey to the loading dock for Sumo Squats X 10 then run to loading dock, up, then mosey back with plank until 6 arrives. We did this 3-4 times I think. Time was running short so we headed to the walls for dips and step ups then back to start for some Mary.

Time up-named our FNG: Packerooney, nice guy. Hope he comes back Sargento. I think he’s got a lot of potential.

COT then hit the road.

Gotta run, not much time for my usual BS in the backblast. Enjoyed it and been too long
