The Reverse Roscoe Route that is actually 5 miles…

Beautiful morning for a nice meetup and run with some other fitness bros.  We started with the pledge, followed by the description of the route.  We did the reverse Roscoe, that was not actually the Roscoe route– it’s the route that is all downhill, yet it starts and ends at the same place.  It was picked because along the way the Lord opened up the sky and showed us a beautiful sunrise just as we came down one of the hills.  Some men along the way thought we were certainly going to be longer than 5 miles, but I assured them, they were all wrong.  The final mileage total was 5.4, and in every mathematics class I’ve ever taken results in a rounded value of 5 miles.  Just like I said… 5 miles!

Announcements:  June1 PT test, the other announcements have already slipped by us before I put in this timely backblast.

Prayer Requests:  Gavel’s family, Turtleman, Graduates, and a few others.

Take a Powder…

5.30 sharp, Pledge, and a short description of the run route.  Two options this morning – one, we leave the parking lot, circle McDonald’s once only and come back to the parking lot of the Pub.  This was a route for those who ran even shorter last week and are incrementally increasing their distances.  You know who you are.

The other route, was the half Defib route forward, followed by the new Roscoe in reverse for the second half of our run.  Uphill the entire duration of the run.  Somehow we ended back at the same spot.  Also it should be noted the run was dead on 5 miles in length, despite some encouraging online classes in Map My Run.

All were accounted for, so we did announcements as part of the COT.  Closed out with prayer.

Take a Powder means – departing quickly, usually before something bad happens.

The Pub 8/31/23

If you missed this one at the Pub, you really missed it.  This time at the Pub, we did something totally different – not sure it’s ever been done before at the Pub.  We picked a route, and then ran it.  It was unbelievable…you just had to be there to understand.  There were 5 brave men that showed up, and we ran the Wells Fargo route.  But this time, on the way back, we ran on West Perry and West Lee.  Usually, we do East Perry and East Lee, but because we ran the route backward – which may have actually been forward – the street names change to the direction in which you run.  I’m pretty confident that’s how it works.

Announcements – Convergence on Monday at the Honey Hunters Field, Coconut Belt Sunday morning – big weekend for F3.

Prayers for Turtleman, Jackson Hall, Norwood.

We all see your wheels…

Have you ever seen those guys at the gym that would circle the parking lot looking for the closest parking space and then go inside and get on a treadmill?  All who showed this morning at the PUB got to witness the equivalent.

Tube – will you give Power Red?

It was a beautiful morning of darkness and streetlights, 50-ish degrees and all of us were quietly wondering how JJ was surviving at such frigid temperatures without a Balaclava, double gloves (“you had two pair of gloves?”),  and a down track suit.

How about Power Red?

We spoke the Pledge of Allegiance to our great nation, which does have it’s own set of problems, but we are thankful the Lord has planted us here… and then got to work.  ‘Work’ hardly seems like work when you find yourself in the company as such men as the PAX that showed this morning.  We had runners and ruckers (Power Red); the runners made their way toward the Armory and back, and the Ruckers did a loop in an apartment complex.  Heart rates were increased, stories were told, and we gathered back around the area between the flag and… ‘the Parker’.  Roscoe made sure everyone found their way around ‘the Parker’ to locate the COT.

Have you considered Power Red?

We solved an important matter – the minimum height at which you could give blood is most definitely less than 4’11”; broke fellowship and made our ways back to our vehicles and homes, with some of us having a MUCH shorter distance than others.

Announcements (Power Red):

Christmas Party Dec 3, Marathoners and Half Marathoners over the next two weekends, the Speed for Need that is coming up, Blood Drive (Power Red)…

Folks to remember to pray for:

Breaker Breaker’s family moving back to town- one is in the job hunt, Turtleman, and Amazon with the arrival of the new little one.

Let’s see if we can make Folgers Upchuck

I was a pinch hitter for Stinky Bird today.  I was glad to help fill in.

The goal today was to see if we could make Folgers upchuck again… (he didn’t know it though)

We started with the Pledge … proud to be here.

Warmup – Side Straddles, bridge ups, blah blah  – let’s run to the playground for some fun.

It went down like this…. 25 dips, 20 hanging knee ups, 10 pull ups, 25 squats, 20 pushups, 15 CDDs, 25 single leg calf raise (then do other side for 25), and 10 underhand close grip pullups.  Run a lap around the playground area, where we enter the playground and do set number two.  We did 4 sets.  We ran back to the Martha’s entrance, 50 LBCs, with a sprint back to the Labs parking lot where we finished with some abs round robin.

Did he upchuck?  Nope.  Not even close.  Pay attention here… I am proud of you Folgers.  It’s been super cool to watch your progression.  Captain Stubing, EZ Rider, it was a pleasure to work out with you guys!

Prayer Requests – for families.  For Stinky Bird’s back.

Labyrinth 3/17 Get Busy!

The rain held off, WaterBoy wanted to be respectful of those running relays this weekend, so he put together a workout that didn’t require much running.

It went down like this:

The Pledge, then Warmup – Burpees, partnered high 5 pushups, butt-kickers… but then raise your arms overhead…  then wiggle fingers, while turning a circle!  All men willingly participated.

Ran over to Big Martha parking lot where the fun began.  3 sets of six exercises designed to tank the legs.  Each exercise starts at the top of a minute.  Air squats, single leg lunge (one side, then the other), side lunges (one side then the other), bridge ups.  The first time through, 50 seconds do the exercise, 10 seconds runs in place, or jumping jacks, or rest.  Next time through, 45 seconds on the exercise, 15 seconds of run in place, or jumping jacks, or rest, last time through 40 seconds with the same for the other 20 seconds.  18 minutes total, then 2 minutes of calf raises for burnout.

Mosey down toward the picnic tables, same pattern, but with only 5 exercises repeated 3 times.  Pushups, dips, hollow body crunch, flutters, and then LBCs.

Mosey back to Pelicans, COT, Name-o. Pray it out. Done.

Clavin found it too easy, so he carried a 145lb Atlas ball.  Folgers ran a full lap around Marthas in each of the 10 second, 15 second, and 20 off times, totaling 19 additional miles.  Watts Up mosey’d down and back on his hands and did the whole workout inverted on one arm.  Gastone … well… he talked, said something about ant bites.

The Green Glass Doors

If you could have seen the morning, it would have been a beaut!   But since the workout starts on time at 5.30, you couldn’t see anything.  Right out of the gate we heard a train, so in honor of downtown, we did a few Burpees.  We said the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag!

Warmup – some side straddle hops, some bridge ups, enough of that, let’s jog to the workout.

We started a 6 minute continuous timer and ran until we hear it ‘ding’.  At the six minute mark, we do 20 walking lunges, 20 Mericans (10 hand release, 10 diamonds), 20 V-ups, and 20 squats.  When we finish that, we run until we hear the 6 minute timer again.  Repeat, repeat, repeat, about 2 more times.

At this workout, to help the pain and time pass, we also exercised our minds by determining the types of objects that can pass through ‘the green glass doors’.  JJ knows the moon can pass, but not the sun.  Watts Up knows that boobs can pass, but not the body.  Maybe anyone else out there know what can pass through the doors??

The men were as fast as any beasts I’ve ever seen on two legs.  The exercises were laughed at, and most, if not all of the men put a baseball in their mouth and earplugs in their nose to increase the difficulty of breathing while running.  I’ve never seen anything of the like.  Next time we will do the run on our hands.

Let’s pray it out men.

Announcements – Send Watts Up your updated contact info so he can update his list.  Also a new location is starting up in Belmont, 5.30.

Prayer Requests – Our nation and unity!

Bulldog 11/3

Cool and crisp morning this morning.  In case any of you have not gotten 150,000 texts from random numbers today, it’s the last day to vote!

We started our warmup with:

Side Straddle Hops

Bridge ups

Mercans

Squats

Burpees

Everybody feeling good and hoping for a challenge, we launched into Summation 8’s.  How it goes is you divide a full length rep into 8 portions.  So you do an 1/8th rep, 1/4 rep, 3/8ths rep, and so on until you get to a full rep, or 8/8ths.  Then back at the top, you divide the motion into 7 parts and do 1/7th, 2/7th,… Then divide into 6, then 5, 4,3,2,1.   We did a full Summation 8 exercise with a cinder block, then an abs set.  It went like this:

Sum 8 Chest press

20 LBC

Sum 8 Squats

20 big boys

Sum 8 Shoulder Press

20 leg lifts

Sum 8 No weight calf raise

20 flutters

Sum 8 Upright rows

20 box cutters

Sum 8 Triceps Extensions (Hermey offered free dental care to everyone)

20 crab crunches

Sum 8 Bicep curls

Partner up, bicep weight holds followed by back to back hand offs

Done?  Nope… another round, but how this finishes out is repeat all the above, except the summation 8 happens as a negative and counting the seconds.  A negative for 8 seconds, then 7 seconds, 6 seconds…

The men were stronger than ever this morning.  Biceps were exploding, I’ve never seen such a group before.  Folks showing up for the polls were totally sidetracked, as no one knew there were multiple Incredible Hulks.  Young men were inspired to be better, old men balanced their bowls of peanuts on their belly as they watched the athletes in action.  The lady’s were fainting.  Sirens were wailing, lights were flashing, as ambulances, firetrucks, and Roscoe raced towards the scene of the shaking earth.  It was as if these men themselves were destroying mountains and overcoming Lions.  Then… all of a sudden… the clock chimed 6.15 and we were snapped back from our thoughts and remembered the pain.

We pledged to the flag.  We noted the Veteran’s day workout (Nov 11).  We talked of prayer requests and brought them to the Lord.  And the QIC forgot the name o ramma!

Control, from the Ground Up

It was my very first Q, but I’d been expertly led by so many others.  Let’s roll…

The Pledge, a couple warm up exercises, and we mosey to the Martha Rivers field.  The one that’s not maintained, and ants like to live in…

Everything we do on this day will be deliberate, full reps, so each exercise gets a three count to allow you time to make the movement slowly and return to start position.  Calf raises, squats, lunges, LBC, obliques – star fish on right, then left, crab crunches, supermans, Mericans, and CDR.  All the while, we are taking turns running to the pullup bar to get a good 15 in.  We are working from the ground up, with control.  Gastone is whining about ants, everyone else is enjoying themselves.

Mosey to a maintained field where we begin to put motions together, complex moves.  Cross overs, burpees, broad jumps, kickthroughs… and the fun is piling on by the minutes!

Mosey to another field where we back it back down with the simple motions mentioned above, but from the top to the bottom, starting with CDR down to calf raises.

It’s cool down now, so we finish with a field of lunges, a couple moseys, and writing the alphabet with our shoes.

We close out with Thanksgiving to God, and ask Him to give us boldness and His presence felt for the day.

Thanks for the lessons fellas, I’m thankful for the opportunity.
