Rice n Beans 1/25/22

Rice n Beans gathered on Broad st at the old Honda shop 1/25 at 6:00.  Pillager, Dirt, Virus and his M, Hey Jude, Sprinkler and Tiger helped.

We served just under 30 meals, and had the chance to pray for four of those served.  We were again thanked not as much for the food, although all were highly appreciative, but more for treating those served with dignity and respect.

Gastonia will be added to the Rice n Beans website within a few days with sign up schedule becoming active.

This was the fourth week for Rice n Beans Gaston County.  To this point, there has been a core group that has been present each week, with some assistance from F3.  The core members are extremely grateful for the F3 support.

Please consider coming out one of the upcoming weeks.  The hope is that a relatively large volunteer base can be established so that the mission is less dependent on a few.

Please keep the mission and those served in your prayers

Midoriyama 1/20

Four Pax gathered in spite of a little rain and cold.  It is a metaphor for life, you have to be willing to do what it takes regardless of the conditions.

Time hits, start to mosey, Haze coming in hot, stop for some SSH to give him to join.  Mosey to the pavilion.  In consideration of elevation gain at smokey mountain relay, and having half way participated in Chad 1000, Q calls for 500 step ups on the benches of the picnic tables.  Let’s go.

Finished with enough time left for rounds of 10 15 and 20 dips and derkins.  Mosey back to start.

Thanks to all who served and donated items.  Please consider this service opportunity in the future.

TRB 1/19/22

Four plus the Q showed for mid-week work at TRB.  Started with the mission of F3, took two trys but no worry.  Nantan joined when he finally decided he was ready, rest of us already broke a sweat.

SSH, IW, 5 burpees and some stretching.  Mosey to the neighborhood and down the hill.  Q calls for dirty 11.  11 hand release merkins up the hill for 11 jump squats.  Repeat 11x.  At the end of 11, 50 LBC oyo.

Mosey back to the school.  Head to benches for step ups, dips and derkins.  10 15 20 with a run to end of parking lot after each set.  A few mins remain so we got in some Mary, big boys, flutters and hello dolly. Back to flag.

YHC mentioned that first Q source topic is disruption.  Part of leading with love is to disrupt the status quo.  How are you doing on your new year goals?  Are you falling back into habits that need to be disrupted. Do you need to disrupt anything at your home or work?  Everyday is a  chance to get better.

Announcements:  Lunch at Wild wing 12:00 1/19, Flat Rock Retreat in February – room for 16 more, Rice n Beans on Tuesday evenings.

Rice n Beans 1/11

Virus and his M, and Tiger served Rice n Beans in Gastonia 1/11.  For the foreseeable future this will be regular event on Tuesday evenings in Gastonia.  Location will continue to be the old Honda shop on Broad Street near the QT.

There is a strong core group of men dedicated to making this happen, but they can use some regular help.  Last night we managed, but having two or three additional sets of hands would have been useful. Please consider this service opportunity on a regular rotation for yourself and your family.

This time of year, the need for blankets and warm clothing is huge.  If you have extras, please let me know.

Also, please pray for Mike, Troy and Debra, all to break the cycle of addiction and see change in their circumstance.

The people being served say that what they have enjoyed most is being treated like a human, with dignity and respect.  A small time commitment has the ability to make a large impact.

Rice n Beans Update

For the time being, Rice n Beans is moving forward in Gaston County at the old Honda shop on Broad Street.  The time is 6:00.  Last week’s launch was well received and considered a success.  We will be able to play a vital role in lending ongoing support.

Last week there were many requests for blankets.  If you have gently used blankets you can give to those in need, please let me know or bring to an AO, we will coordinate getting those.

M’s and 2.0s welcome .

Please arrive a few minutes ahead of 6:00 to help with setup

F3 Tools

Him’s gathered on a cold Monday morning at Mt Hollywood, we were able to welcome Pillager back to gloom following his surgery, great to have you back brother!

Began with the mission of F3, good to start with a reminder that we do these workouts for more reasons than to only exercise our body.  Warm up of SSH, IW, burpees, grass pickers, merkins and some stretching.

Mosey to BBT.  Good spot for walls of Jericho, do 7 repos of 7 exercises and take a lap around bank.  Repeat 7 times.  Hand release merkins, cruchy frog, burpee, diamond merkin, lil baby flutter crunch, flying squirrels, LBC,

After each lap we discussed some tools available to help achieve the mission.  YHC was about three years in before really learning what was available and how to utilize them.  I had heard terms, but did not really know what they all meant, so I thought others may not know as well.

We discussed concentrica, 8 block as defined by CSPAN and Whoppee from the past Saturday, Freed to Lead, Shieldlock, Whetstone, CSAUPs and GrowRuck.

Three of five  present at workout did not know many of the tools.

Mosey back to flag and pledge.

Announcements – Rice n Beans next week, Saturday AO on Christmas will only be The Yank

Prayer requests: Bubba traveling, Pillager dad with Cancer, Tiger M and stepsons, Dark Helment, people of Kentucky

Never Underestimate the Power of God

O’ the places we went, the things we saw

A good time surely was had by all

We had warm-up and a workout and some Mary to end

But the fellowship we share is the best time to lend

No, it’s not easy, nor should it be

For the best things in life are never free

We saw a speech when it all was put to rest

To remind the Him’s, that God can use whatever is your best

God can do great things with what we think is not much

Just give Him the chance, He will change it bunch

After the workout I showed the video below of Ernie Johnson Jr.’ speech to the Alabama football team at the beginning of the football season.  The lame rhyme above is due to Ernie Johnon commencement address at the Univ of Georgia 2017 Spring commencement where he created a commencement rhyme from Dr Seuss’ O The Places You’ll Go.

There are many life lessons in the five-minute excerpt  included, but to me there is one overriding message:  Trust God with whatever you have, no matter how little or how much, He will multiply in ways that will impact a bunch.

Prayers for Broke’s mom and family, Tiger’s M and stepsons, those who struggle in the holiday season

Rice n Beans 12/07

We had a few help at Rice n Beans in Charlotte.  Roscoe and his family, along with Termite, Breaker Breaker, Paperback Writer, Hey Jude and Tiger.

Amazing that when you set out to help others they often help you.  Give the gift of self.

The Gastonia launch if Rice n Beans is roughly a month away if all goes to plan.  We will have opportunity to play significant role.

The Yank 12/04

Eleven gathered for some hard work downtown Belmont at the Bunker and the Yank.  Start with the mission of F3 and reminder to give it best effort every time.  We have to be willing to break down a little in order to rebuild better.

Warm up was together, SSH, IW, and some stretches.  YHC wanted a good laugh so we also had some toe touch jacks in there.  Everyone except Freon are terrible with these.  5 burpees for the train.  Bootcamp with me Bunker with Hipaa

Mosey up the hill of main street and take a right back toward the school.  End up at track.  Partner up.  Partner runs in opposite direction.  Meet halfway for 10 burpees with hand release boo-yah merkins at the bottom.  Run halfway for nine.  Repeat down to one.  Crowd pleaser.

Mosey to corner of knowledge.  Step-ups, ten each leg.  Run down hill at myrtle street and back.  Repeat for 15 step ups and then 20.  Crowd pleaser.

On the six for 10 big boys and run to fence at the end of walk way.  Three rounds.

Mosey back to Yank for some Mary.

Bunker boys rejoin.  Pledge.

YHC talks for just a moment about discipline and making good choices.  The fact that our behaviors throughout every day either help us work toward our goals or detract from them.  There really is no in-between.
