Assaulting Ground and taking names

There were some ruckers and some runners. It was a nice day for either. This is what happened…

The route was provided on Slack the day before by the excellent Site Q Virus and then YHC reiterated it before we headed out. The runners followed the route, the ruckers did whatever ruckers do when the wander into the gloom.

After the work was done, the runners were back where they were supposed to be AND they were on time. We waited and waited and waited and waited until YHC had to call one of the delinquent ruckers to get their location.  Apparently, it’s hard to keep good track time when rucking. Do better men. You hate to see it.

Announcements: 24 hour run Nov 4th, Beer Ruck in December, Freight’s trail race soon, 40-Day challenge NOW

Prayer Requests: Turtleman

You’re the meaning in my life. You’re the inspiration

As PAX, we are here for each other. We are the reason we get out of bed super early because, if we don’t, we’ll possibly be letting out brothers in arms down. This cannot happen. Shorty reached out a few days before 0 day asking for some help with the Q. I’m in! 6 HIM showed for the bootcamp at Gashouse. This is what happened.

Tube led the workout to kick things off. We split up and the bootcampers headed out toward the road, taking a left to the parking lot in front of Grier.

11’s – CDDs and LBCs

Mosey around the corner to the yet to be used bus drop off loop beside the school for

BOMBS (this sucked) – partner up and one guy does exercises while the other runs the loop. The exercises were:

50 Burpees, 100 Overhead Claps, 150 Merkins, 200 Bigboys, 250 Squats

Mosey up to the church parking lot for some time killing Mary then over to the other church parking lot for a round of 61-49.

Once that was done, we headed back to the start and did some more Mary until time was called. Great workout men!

Announcements: October ruck half marathon, Tuna runner needed

Prayer Requests: Turtleman, Norwood, Jackson Hall, Voodoo’s daughter

On this harvest moon

The moon was big and bright this gloom to welcome the 4 intrepid souls who weren’t afraid of the beating to come. This is what happened…

Countoff

Pledge of Allegiance

Warmup including the patented Right Over Left which is often imitated, never duplicated.

Mosey toward the bridge over the ditch for a lunge walk across. Keep moseying until we get to the back of the tall building across from the courthouse.

Four Corner Escalator:

10 Big Boys first corner

Same as 1st plus 20 CDDs

Same as 2nd corner plus 30 lunges each leg

Same as 3rd corner plus 40 plank jacks.

Mosey down the way, stopping for some wall sits, then to the new portico area at FUMC for the 9-29-23. Yep, we did 9 merkins (I think), 29 american hammers and 23 squats.

Mosey from there to the top of the parking deck taking the long way up. Head back down and to the start. Circle up for Mary until time was called.
Thanks for the opportunity to lead men!

Announcements: October ruck half marathon, 2nd F lunch coming up, Tuna needs another runner

Prayer requests: Easy Rider’s family, Turtleman, Norwood, Jackson Hall, Amazon coworker aneurism

You can go your own way!

Go your own way!!! While this was mentioned as an option by YHC, the Armory route, including the gut check, was recommended as the way to go. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then headed off into the gloom.

We made our way, some heading off on an alternate direction later on as a way to practice “you versus you”. In the end, everyone made it back to the start safely. Good work men, another day’s work done!

Announcements: JJ5k, October ruck, 1 more runner needed for Tuna relay, Marshall Tucker Band playing in Belmont this Saturday

Prayer Requests: Turtleman coming home soon, Norwood posted recently, Jackson Hall

Best of the Best

It was a perfect morning for a beatdown at the Yank. 10 HIM were there for the action, including Volt for a 2nd east side appearance in a row! Welcome brother, we’re always glad to have you and all other non-regulars to AO’s you don’t frequent.

Public service announcement – Just like Volt did the last couple days, its really good practice to visit AOs you may not be as familiar with, especially the HIM who you may meet there. We’re all F3 men! Get out there and meet new guys and spread the love.

There has been some recent complaining that YHC wasn’t bringing the musical accompaniment the PAX expected . Challenge accepted! Back in 2019 YHC posted on Twitter a top 100+ albums of all time. For the playlist, YHC chose the best song from each album to go with a beatdown and it was awesome.

The beatdown was fantastic as always, but today was really about the music. Lots of sweat was shed and the PAX got their money’s worth. Maybe more music will be brought in the coming weeks and months…

We finished up with a bunch of Mary and we’re done!

Announcements – JJ 5k, October ruck, Tuna 200 needs runners

Prayer requests – Norwood, Turtleman, Termite’s son, one of Tricycle’s pastor’s at City Church son passed unexpectedly

Milkshake in the yard

14 HIM wanted some milkshake at the darkest AO in the region. YHC decided to wing this workout without a weinke but being experienced, no problems were in the forecast. This is what happened…

5:30 struck and we moseyed toward the playground blacktop so as not to wake the neighbors, avoiding the danger chain on the way. Circle up for the warmup and slight disclaimer. Mosey down the street to the tennis courts for The Thang

Suicide escalator! Start on one end, run to the edge of one court and back for 10 Squats. Mosey to the next furthest court and back for 10 squats & 10 merkins. Next furthest for the first 2 then back, so on and so forth. The exercises in order were Squats, Merkins, LBCs, Mike Tysons and Lunges. Once we finished the escalator there was some talking by YHC and the 2nd session was announced. The de-escalator (is that a thing?). Do the whole thing backwards. Push that rock!

Mosey back to the start at the blacktop for the next thing.

Dora 1, 2, 3, 4

Partner up and do 100 CDDs, 200 Monkey Humpers, 300 Dying Cockroaches and then an extra 400 Air Presses. Seuss had to leave but we kept on trucking!

Circle up and we did a bunch of Mary. Namorama and we’re out!

Announcements- JJ 5k in a couple weeks, 2nd F lunch next Wednesday at Gastonia Pita Wheel, Tuna 200 needs 2 more runners

Prayer requests: Watt’s Ups knees, Jackson Hall cancer, Norwood, Turtleman, Huck, Anchorman’s FIL

Do you believe in miracles? YES!!!

It was a slightly damp and not oppressively hot day at the afternoon AO. The usuals were hanging out in the shade breathing in the aroma of flushed turds beside the shack. Everyone wondered if we’d do the deck of death again since that’s what YHC brought to the storm earlier in the gloom. For shame, there was so much more in store for these dudes! This is what happened…

It was still Dr Seuss’ birthday so we started with a dramatic rendition of Happy Birthday. He loved it!

Pledge of Allegiance

Count off to get the numbers. We had an even number until Radar showed up late and now there were 11. Mosey over to the old M mobile for our supplies: JBL Flip 4, some cones and a rubber playground ball! It’s time for some Kickball!!!

Mosey to the small soccer field closest to the start. Count off by 1s and 2s to make teams. Of course, YHC was all time pitcher because we needed perfect pitches every time. I forget who was on the teams, but the rules were that upon each out the batting team had to do the called exercise for that inning and for each run scored the defensive team had to do the exercise. We also ran a lap at each batting change which helped kept the heartrate up. The exercises were:

  • 1st inning – 5 burpees
  • 2nd inning – 10 merkins
  • 3rd inning – 15 bigboys

It was a back-and-forth struggle with some surprising efforts by various PAX. With it being such a close affair and time drawing to a close, YHC reminded everyone of the finishing scenario:

Sudden death! Whichever team scored the first run or made the first out, they won the game. The tension was high for the first batter Broke. He wasted no time in putting his pointy toe on the first pitch which dropped deep in the outfield, so deep that he had time to get on his horse and score a walk-off, in the park homer. Mic drop, game over! Nobody could’ve imagined things would end this way but that’s why you show up, play hard the whole game and hope for the best in the end. To quote Al Michaels from the 1980 US Olympic hockey victory over the Soviets, “Do you believe in miracles, yes!”

We moseyed back home for a couple of finishing exercises before time was called. Thanks for showing up men. AYE!

We will never forget

10 HIM showed up on this significant day in our country’s history. It was a nice morning to run, ruck, walk or whatever you chose. After the rock pushing, YHC shared some of the message President Bush gave when he addressed the nation the evening of 9/11.

We can’t ever take today for granted and we need to do our best to make the most of what today can be. Love on those you care about and tell them you love them.

Announcements – 2nd F lunch next Wednesday at Pita Wheel Gastonia, JJ 5K, Ruck on October 21st.

Prayer Requests – Jackson Hall, Norwood, Turtleman, Sarlacc’s 2.0 Brillo has 3 weeks left of bootcamp, all men in the world to step up and lead

YHC took us out.

IPC – Week 1 at Old School

The dew was thick as always at Old School, just waiting for an inexperienced PAX to wander into it’s hydrating embrace to make shoes soggy and clothes clingy. Luckily, YHC and his counterparts were wise to this trick and stayed on the nice, dry parking lot for this beatdown. Lord know, it was hard enough with decent conditions, no need to compound the problems. This is what happened…

The Rhino was waiting when YHC arrived 10 minutes early to the AO. After a few minutes of us deliberation about how to tackle the pending doom and wondering who else would show up, the Site Q rolled up. He hopped out of his ride and announced he’d only be walking today per doctor’s orders. Looks like it’d be just the two of us. Doesn’t matter, the suck was going to happen even if we had 150 HIM there. This is you vs you stuff!

Warmup – Don Quixotes

The Thang – 45 minutes, count as many reps as you can while a 5-minute timer runs. At each horn, do the designated mode of transportation. For the exercises, do 10 reps of one, then switch to the other until you get to 80 total reps.

Round 1 – Flying Squirrels & WW3 Sit Ups – Mode of Transportation was the Lunge Walk with coupon.

Round 2 – Bock Over Burpees & Perfect Form Merkins – Mode of transport was Murder Bunnies. This round was a killer!

Round 3 – Thrusters & Jillian Michaels – Mode of Transport was the Rifle Carry.

We finished the 45 minute part up and wrapped up with a couple laps around the track to work out the kinks.

This workout was awful but Watts Up and I pushed each other to do our best and in the end, we did! Thanks for posting brother, couldn’t have done it without you!!! Wirenut walked up and we hashed out the announcements and prayer requests. Thanks for the opportunity to lead men!

Announcements – 2nd F lunch at Gastonia Pita Wheel in 2 weeks, JJ 5K coming  late September

Prayer requests – Jackson Hall, Turtleman, Wirenut’s recovery, Watts Up’s niece’s son having heart transplant, 4 year old boy in Belmont hit by car, Purple Haze’s dad
