Lock Up

10 total posted on Tuesday at Midoriyama. This is what we did.

Warmup:

Let’s mosey!

The Thang:

We took a stroll down to the soccer fields and back. Around the turd shack we did 10 reps each of 9 exercises. That’s one round. We continued doing this by dropping one rep each round. 10, 9, 8, 7,…..1 and done. During these exercises we had a timer set to go off every minute. When the timer goes off you have to do 2 burpees then pick back up where you left off. Everyone completed this at different times but we all picked up the 6 until everyone was finished. The 6 completed 26-1 minute rounds so that’s 52 burpees. The exercises completed are below.

Squat

Merkin

Lunge single count

Freddy Mercury single count

CDD’s

Ski Burps single count

Wall Taps

Donkey Kicks

Miranda Rights

Once complete we made our way back down to the soccer fields and back. We finished up with some Mary. LBFCs, Freddy Mercurys, Boat/Canoe, Superman holds.

Announcements-Midoriyama shirt order out until 6/2, Hat orders, Memorial Day Murph

Prayer Request-Pregnancy’s, Family members health concerns, Turtleman

Naked Moleskin:

Several PAX pretended to not know what the Miranda Rights exercise was but most looked pretty comfortable doing them. One PAX explained that in NOLA it usually would involve a Benjamin Franklin held in your hands.

Minwax

9 PAX posted at Midoriyama on Tuesday. Several went shirtless. It was noted one of them who may or may not do some spray tan was looking like he was somewhere between an english chestnut and dark walnut stain. One was a visitor from that city we are the gateway to. I met Forge, who’s shop is right next to mine, through the Growruck in Charlotte back in August. He made some cool souvenirs for the participants and made some torture equipment for the ruck as well. I’m glad he came over and worked out with us. Hopefully he reports back to headquarters we are doing it right in the Gashouse! Anyway I’m struggling with some severe sinus pressure so I wasn’t looking to run so we did another block beatdown.

Warmup:

We did a few SSH’s and Don Q’s but again if you aren’t warmed up by this time of the day what have you been doing?

The Thang:

This is a simple one but a grinder. Set a timer for 2 minutes. Do the 5 exercises going from 5 reps down to1 then do step ups the remainder of the time. We did 10 rounds of each of the below. It was also suggested that you hold your block while doing the step ups. Most did.

5 thrusters

4 alpos

3 swings

2 overhead press

1 blockee

The next round consisted of the below

5 avalanche

4 standing chest press

3 goblet squats

2 french curls

1 blockee

There was a lot of step ups involved in this but we pushed through!

Tres Cinco

9 Respects ,or very close to it, posted on Cinco de Mayo at Midoriyama for what turned out to be a really tough workout. If you didn’t see the nation email that came out last week out Nations Nantan Slaughter said he’s seen a lot of ussys with a P at some workouts lately. Well those weren’t his exact words. Ok maybe those were clearly mine. Either way you need to push hard at the workouts and do the actual reps! Don’t worry about being fast. Do the reps! Will doing all of those squats at an actual full bend hurt? Yes. Will moving your entire body up and down during a merkin start to hurt? Yes. That’s what happens in order to get stronger and when you see your brother cutting himself short let him know in a brotherly love kinda way. Anyway my intent was to make this one tough. Well I always try but I put a little extra stink on this one.

Warmup:

Slaughter starter-20 burpees oyo

The Thang:

Partner up and get a block for the pair. We stayed on the backside of the fence near where we keep the blocks.

Dore 12345. She’s a big girl now and can count higher. Plus it’s cinco day.

100 merkins

200 squats

300 lbc

400 seal jacks

500 back scratchers

Partner rifle carries the block down two light poles and back and switch.

Wirenut stated it wasn’t far enough until a couple rounds in we all agreed it was. The seal jacks were surprisingly hard after all the rifle carries. We were all pretty smoked at this point but we still had plenty of time.

Triple Nickel aka Tres Cinco we did several rounds of this.

5 hand release, 5 ssh, 5 dying cockroach(count one side)

5 lunges(count one side), Freddy Mercury(count one side), Diamond merkins

5 step ups(count one side), 5 dips, 5 derkins

Final push we did a Slaughter Finish-20 burpees oyo

Time!

COT:

Announcements-there is a rumor about a convergence

Prayer Request-Several college graduates, several family members, Turtle man

Moleskin:

I think I said enough at the top but strong work by everyone in attendance today!

Westnut Swole

10 took the call to get swole like Westside and Wirenut at Midoriyama on Thursday. This is what we did.

Warmup:

Blah blah it’s 5:30 in the evening you better be loose by now!

The Thang:

A throw back 2018 IPC

We grabbed some blocks out of Wirenut’s truck since he happened to have them left from his morning beatdown and headed to the bottom of the parking lot.

4 sets of 8 minutes. Do 25 reps then run to the end of the parking lot and back. Rinse and repeat for the 8 minutes. Rest for 2 minutes in between each set.

Set 1-Thrusters

Set 2-Curls

Set 3- block swings

Set 4-Man makers aka blockee

That was terrible!

Cigarette Butts

12 men stayed after Gashouse on Saturday for the Adopt a Street cleanup. Our area runs from S Clara st to S Church st on Garrison blvd. That is the area around Lineberger park. All in all it went pretty well. In total it only took us about an hour. Many hands make light work! Nothing to crazy was found. A piece of a bomb, Broke found a gum box with several dollars worth of change. Sargento found what appeared to be someones stash of PB & J’s. We would have left them but the ants found them first so we cleaned them up. There was a lot of cigarette butts. I mean a lot. As a former smoker I am guilty of tossing these out of the window so I guess it’s only right I go out and clean them up. Thanks again to the men that volunteered! Round two will be in 2 months.

WORDLE

10 men showed at Gashouse for the bootcamp portion of the AO on Saturday. As usual EC was done. The Nantan even put in 10!

Warmup:

We did some stuff then we headed over to the library parking lot.

The Thang:

Borrowed from a workout I saw Carpex do(so if you complained then you must be saying you’re a wussy compared to those guys). The word wussy spelled slightly different may or may not have been used several times during this workout because sometimes a man just needs to be told. Not to beat him down but to lift him up. Look at it as a motivator.

Broad jump 2 parking spaces and do the following exercises.

10-burpees

10-Bonnie Blairs

10-WWII’s

Do this 2 more sets then bear crawl back to the start(6 parking spaces)

That’s 1 round. Do 5 rounds. We made it through about 4 and we were 30 minutes in so I switched it up to do some Wordle.

If you haven’t played wordle it a word game where you try to figure out what the 5 letter word is for the day. Your first guess is just that, a guess. It then tells you if any of the letters are in the correct spot or if they are in the word just in the wrong spot. Easy enough but surprisingly difficult sometimes. The group had an advantage as they could all help each other. I’m not sure who came up with this as a workout. I saw someone in the nation put it out a week or so ago. So for each letter that was correct and in the correct spot we would do 10 reps of an exercise. For each one that was correct and in the wrong spot we would do 20 reps. For each one that was wrong we would do 30 reps. The first word was ALIVE and they guessed it on the fourth try. Well Uptown Girl pulled this one out. Everyone else was stumped. We ran low on time and only made it through 2 guesses on the second word. It was kind of funny because we were approaching Easter Sunday and the first word being alive lead everyone to think it was a theme. So they kept guessing words that went in that direction. It was STEAL 🙂 Anyway it went pretty good. It’s a little much to keep up with for my taste but still not as difficult as a Short Sale Q.

COT:

Pledge-per the Nantan’s command

Announcement-Baseball tickets, I’ll be honest I don’t remember

Prayer Request-My memory( I seem to be forgetting a lot lately)

Coochie and Precious

3 or maybe 5 PAX posted at Members Only Sunday morning for some miles. Golddigger had some of his fast friends out again. I’m pretty sure he said their names were Coochie and Precious. What I am sure of is I’m uncomfortable running beside a 2:20 something marathon guy at an 8 minute pace. Luckily that didn’t last long and they ran off and left Bubba and I. Of course knowing Bubba could run off and leave me didn’t help to much but we had a good talk and run. Afterwards  Coochie and Precious didn’t seem interested in being on camera or sharing during the COT so the COT was just us three. Bubba and I had a great conversation on shorties at Q source. It always helps to know that others are going through struggles like you. You are not alone!

Flaming Cropduster

9 total pax for a beautiful day at Midoriyama to suck in all the pollen that we could. Leppard had the Q but pushed his wife down the stairs again so he had to take her to the doctor. I’m always willing to step in so I dug through the archives and found one  that I had saved that I could tell was going to have a high suck factor. It did not disappoint.

Warmup:

SSH x 10ic- Broke is starting to look like a cross between Leppard and Tesla while doing these now

Low slow squat x 10ic

I’m not much on the warmup this late in the day so let’s get busy. We grabbed some blocks and hit the parking lot on the other side of the turd shack.

The Thang:

10 blockees-Oh the moans from the crowd!

20 Thrusters-yet again more moans

30 Hand Release merkins-the moans stopped as the pax let defeat settle in

40 Lunges(count each leg)

Run 2 laps around the parking lot

Rinse and repeat.

We did this for the entire time and it was terrible. I started blacking out at one point I really felt like I was going to go out. Mayor almost puked 13 times. Blart had a bet going for when Mayor would puke. Termite said he laid enough block and refused to pick one up. Oompa started but pulled a half flaming cropduster. He just walked off with his block to the woods. We thought he was going to leave but he came back eventually to do a modified version. Wirenut didn’t think it was hard enough and did his lunges on the curb so that they would be deeper. Speaking of deeper there was a surprising amount of sexual innuendo’s during this workout. I mean we usually have some but this one was a little disturbing at times.

COT:

Announcements-Convergence this Saturday at The Yank, SMR meeting after, Community run 4/9, Trash pickup 4/16

Prayer Request-Mayor took us out

Pledge-Led by Oompa

Moleskin:

This one was so good Blart even said goodbye to me. It was from his truck and he was giving me the California howdy but he did at least say bye!

BROKE=51

10 peeps posted to Midoriyama  on Tuesday. A few did some soccer practice work while the others did the Broke hero WOD since it was his birthday.

Warmup:

SSH x 10ic

Don’s x 10 ic

Let’s mosey to the small soccer field

Broke’s WOD:

I thought of some different words or phrases that also mean broke then used those to find exercises. 51 reps of each exercise was completed for his age and after each we did the Wojo to the other side of the field and back. The Wojo is a side shuffle like basketball practice(since Broke was a baller back in the day) after every 5 steps bend down and slap the ground.

Bankrupt=Burpees(his least favorite) There was a less than stellar performance by the PAX here. I guess when you say 51 burpees right off the bat it takes the wind right out of their sail. There was lot of standing and talking by several. Hate to see it!

Wojo

As poor as a church mouse=American Hammer(his favorite)

Wojo

Destitute=Deconstructed burpee

Wojo

Impoverished=Iron Mike(jump lunge)

Wojo

Poor=Pretzel crunch

Wojo

Penniless=Peter Parker

Wojo

Down and out=Dirty Hookup

Wojo

Mosey back to the flag and finish with a minute and a half of burpees.

Some reasons Broke is my hero. Broke is a Godly man with strong faith. A good father whose dedication is represented by the good daughters he has raised. He is a dedicated and hard worker who is always willing to help someone out. He’s always respectful.

Most of the above was copied and pasted from July of 2020 when I created this WOD. I’ve got to add that since then Broke signed up for a half marathon just to support me in my effort. He trained long, terrible weathered, and route picked miles with me the whole way. Because of his support during training and his insistence on going out hot in the race I was able to far exceed my goal. Thanks #HAL

COT:

Announcements-A lot of folks running relays this weekend so make sure you show up at the AO’s to support each other, convergence 4/2 at the yank

Prayer Request-Gumby’s mom

Gooder

16 total PAX  parked in the parking lot for Folsom on Saturday morning. Some ran long miles training for the P200 and didn’t post with the rest of us. At least one of those hit a new record distance(Bedpan 10 miles) so I guess I’ll give them credit here. Some showed to post but left after the first sequence of pain in the the thang(Westside). He was hustling for that first part so I’ll give him credit I suppose. He claims he had an emergency at work. Some claim he only had 20 minutes of cardio in him. I don’t know I’m just reporting here. There was a lot of EC going on. Believe it or not Def Leppard had the most EC at 7+ miles! We even had 1 that showed for EC then left before we even got started. He will not get credit here. You know who you are!

Warmup:

Blah blah blah. Does it really matter? It’s just the warmup.

The Thang:

Over on Sportsman Dr(did you know the streets of Folsom are named?) at the end between the softball fields I informed the PAX we would be running to the first speed bump and we would do 10 hand release merkins. Then we would run back to the start to do 10 WWI sit-ups.  We would run to the 2nd speed bump and rinse and repeat. We would continue this until we reached the 5th speed bump which I might add is up on Leisure Ln. Volt made his objection of this known vocally. Not that it changed anything but I appreciate anytime you can get him to talk. A modification option was given and we got after it. Bat flippers flipped and the 6 was picked up. Westside pulled a Blart and we moved on to the next thing.

We made our way over to the lower parking lot for some hill sprints. You could fill the excitement in the air. I advised the PAX that when doing hill sprints you don’t necessarily need a steep hill. You want some incline but if it’s to steep then it will throw your stride off. I would’ve liked it to be a little steeper but it was all good. So we sprinted to the end of the parking lot then returned either walking or slow moseying. Enough to recover before doing it again. We did 5 rounds.

After the sprints we did some up/downs and alarm clocks. That was fun!

After that we hit the shelter for 3 rounds or was it 2? of 10 dips ic, 10 step-ups each leg oyo, and 10 derkins oyo. After this I had planned another round of sprints but it was getting close so we headed back toward the flag.

I had the PAX line up at the end of the parking, informing them they may want to get in line with the good asphalt. Time for some speed crawls! Speed bearcrawl out 3 parking spaces and speed crawlbear back. Do it as fast as you can there will be recovery time. Well let me tell you about 2/3 of these half repers(is that a word) leaned way out across the start, positioning themselves across most of the first space. I was not having any of this cheat yourself stuff and made everyone back up to the edge of the asphalt. We did 3 rounds of this then added in a few minutes of mary to close it out.

COT:

Announcements-Taking up some money to get a meal for a local pax who’s family lost a loved one-see Gumby, Convergence 4/2 at The Yank, We adopted a street in Gastonia-signup to help clean up on 4/16 see Slack.

Prayer Request-Thanks to Camilia for taking us out

Moleskin:

Great job by the runners going out and logging those miles. While we aren’t doing these races to win, it is appreciated by team members when you train and put forth the effort. Good hustle by the bootcampers as well. A special shout out to Camilia who is new to the group but is out there getting it done. It doesn’t get easier but you get better and stronger. Just keep moving!
