Folsom Loop at Crossroads

When running at Crossroads, the approach is usually find someone I can stay with and try to follow them. This morning for some strange reason, I started with Gold Digger, (yes, I know he’s fast), Sister Act, Gumby and Pockets. Haze was dragging in late and Wirenut was taking off his shirt. Wiki and Seuss were long gone. Gumby had the route and I hung on all the way to the terrible hill on the Folsom lake loop. If you’ve been to Folsom for one of my or Round Up’s Q, you know the hill that got me. As the group pulled away from me, Pockets stayed with me even though he could’ve stayed with the faster group. We had a decent run and a good conversation about trying to be more unoffendable from a podcast I listened to a while back.

Announcements: F3 Lunch at The Lodge in Belmont Wednesday May 24th at noon.
Bike Ride on June 3rd in Hendersonville. See Purple Haze

Prayer Requests: Huck, Turtleman, Haze’s neighbor’s funeral is today, various injured Pax.

In Q Source, Blart made the call for each Q to select a leader and tell about them. I chose Rev. Billy Graham who I have admired many years. One point I made during our lesson was a man named Albert McMakin who was a farm hand at the Graham Dairy farm persuaded young Billy Graham to go hear an evangelist named Mordecai Ham. Young Billy was converted and started his life’s journey of evangelism. The point I took from that is, like Albert McMakin, you never know what a positive influence can do to change a person and how that change can lead to bigger things as well.

Clock Work at Gashouse

Gashouse 5/20/23
Warmup with the Painlab guys.
SSH, Cotton Pickers, Hillbillies, ROL stretches, leg stretches on ground, Merkins. (Some of these did not meet the exacting standards of some Pax but we persevered). Timeframe is the Q for the Painlab guys and will have their backblast. A nice sized group of 11 bootcampers with Sargento joining somewhere along the way so let’s roll.

Mosey across the road to the far side middle of Parkwood Baptist parking lot.
Filthy Fifty Pain Clock – Start in the center (Clavin tried to help keep us returning to the same spot but I kept messing it up). Everyone stay together. Try to picture the parking lot as a big clock, no not a digital clock. Run to 12 o’clock, 50 reps of exercise, back to center, run to 1 o’clock, 50 reps of something, back to center, etc. all the way around to 11 o’clock. I thought our clock looked pretty good on Strava.
Exercises:
LBC’s,
CDD’s,
Squats,
Flutters (count right leg),
MNC’s, (SA loves those)
Merkins,
SSH,
Freddy Mercuries (count right leg),
Calf Raises,
Imperial Walkers (count right side),
Plank Jacks,
Overhead Claps.

Mosey to Presbyterian church to find blocks (not the official 35 pounders but my 24 pounders).
Curls x 30
OH Press x 30
Shrugs x 30
On Your Six Chest Press x 40
Triceps Ext x 30
Rows x 15 each arm
Swings x 30
Repeat Curls x 30

Mosey to Presbyterian back bottom parking lot closer to their ball field for Georgia Pine or Meet in The Middle. Partner up and run in opposite directions to the middle parking lot. When you meet, P1 squat holds while P2 does 5 burpees. Flapjack. Repeat until each partner has done 25 burpees. Meet back at the start. Round 2 is Plank Hold and Merkins x 10, up to 50 merkins each but most made 3 rounds. Round 3 we didn’t get to for time.

I try to have a theme or quote from someone dispersed throughout the workout when the Pax (or likely myself) may need a rest. Here are a few I read today mostly on Perseverance.
Quotes-
1. “If you can’t outplay them, outwork them.” ~ Ben Hogan
2. “What you lack in talent can be made up with desire, hustle and giving 110% all the time.” ~ Don Zimmer
3. “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” ~ George Bernard Shaw
4. “You just can’t beat the man who won’t give up” ~ Babe Ruth
5. “Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure that you are not, in fact, just surrounded by a**holes.” ~ William Gibson (Whoopee finished this one for us)
6. “Nobody ever wrote down a plan to be broke, fat, lazy, or stupid. Those things are what happen when you don’t have a plan.” ~ Larry Winget
7. (One of my favorites) 1 Corinthians 16:13 NASB “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” Apostle Paul

**NMM Always a pleasure to Q at the original Gashouse site of my first post ever. Thanks to all of the Pax who posted today and got just a little bit better. Whoopee tried to sing but it didn’t go well. Great to see Medicine Woman as we go way back to “the leg” days. Stroganoff ran over 5 fast miles EC. Sister Act usually has more to say but I guess he misses his buddy Slaw who was away with Broke on a couples retreat I think. We got in 3 miles and a lot of reps so it was a good morning.

Meet In The Middle

Nice spring day at the premier afternoon AO with 12 strong Pax, Great to see the Mayor out after a recent shoulder surgery getting some steps in. Pledge.

Warmup: SSH, Low Slow Squats, MNC’s, Hillbillies, some stretches and 5 merkins.

Mosey to the small soccer field for the Thang.

Partner up and run in opposite directions around the field. When you meet, P1 does Squat holds while P2 does 5 burpees. Run again in opposite directions until you meet then P1 does the 5 burpees while P2 does the Squat holds. Repeat until each partner has done 25 burpees. Round 2 is Plank and Merkins x 10 up to 50 Merkins. Round 3, yes Round 3 is 6″ leg holds and LBC’s x 10 up to 50 LBC’s each. The bat flippers were rolling but the rest of us got there eventually.

Mosey over to the bleachers for Stationary 11’s. Step Ups x 10, 1 dip. 9 step ups, 2 dips, etc. down to 1 step up and 10 dips.

Mosey back to the flag for some Mary. I made Assshhh Pond stop at only 15 American Hammers. Pockets called Crunchy Frogs. Defib called Flutter Kicks. Broke called Big Boys and time is up.

I read a few quotes from famed duck hunter and Christian speaker Phil Robertson. One of my favorites is as follows: “I hope that people just do two things: Love God and love their neighbor. I don’t think there’s a down side to it.”

Announcements: 5K Friday at 6:30 at Common Ground
Convergence at Midoriyama Saturday at 7:00 am

Prayer Requests: Huck, Turtle Man, Ratchet’s Son, Virus’ Daughter, Blart’s Mother-in-law, Happy Tree’s Mother-in-law, Speed For Need in theft of their trailer, Defib’s daughter, Sargento.
Blart took us out.

The usual suspects leading the way today. There are always some bat flippers pushing the pace at Midoriyama. They know who they are. Happy Trees is getting better each time and keeps showing up. Me and Oompa had time to discuss our various injuries. Pockets ran almost 4 miles EC before the workout. Wikileaks will soon be 19. Mayor’s surgery seems to be a success but he is not a fan of the surgical tape. Thanks to everyone who came out today.

7 Glorious Years

On 4/2/2016 after finding out about F3 from a coworker who said, and I quote “I tried it but those guys are a little too hardcore for me”, I posted and began the journey of F3 around 7 years ago. For my Q today, I read a few personal F3 milestones which I have enjoyed along the way. Indulge me as I reminisce about the last 7 years. Let’s go!

Evidently since Slaw hit Respect, he is already slipping as the Site Q flag was still there from Tuesday’s workout. As Freight’s daughter Karli likes to say, “Hate to see it”. A strong 14 Pax at the best and chattiest afternoon AO around. Warmup: SSH x 7 IC, Low Slow Squats x 7 IC, Cotton Pickers x 7 IC, Moroccan Night Clubs x 7 IC. Personal F3 Milestone #1: My first CSAUP was at Crowder’s Mountain and we went up and down the mountain twice, had lots of obstacles and routines and a fun time and let me know these F3 guys are crazy but I love it.

Mosey to the small soccer field and read #2 Personal F3 Milestone: Talked about Relay Races, Palmetto 200, Tuna, 200, Bourbon Chase, Ragnar. I believe, other than the running part, the relay races are the most fun you can have in F3 so sign up for one. You’ll love it.

7’s: 6 merkins, run across the field, 1 squat, run back. 5 Merkins, run across the field, 2 squats and etc. until done. #3 Personal F3 Milestone: I was selected to be Midoriyama Site Q one year and loved the challenge.

Mosey to Dog Park Hill for Crazy 7’s. 7 Hand Release Merkins, Up the hill to touch the fence and back down. Repeat 7 times. Yes 7 times. Several guys picked up Happy Trees who is new to F3 and showing good progress. #4 Personal F3 Milestone: I was selected to be 3rd F Q one year and enjoyed leading that important part of F3.

Mosey back toward the flag stopping 3 times for, you guessed it, 7 burpees. #5 Personal F3 Milestone: In an unexpected honor, I was selected to be Nantan of F3 Gastonia. It was a wonderful year and I am honored to be on that list of guys who have served in that position. If you know the guys on the list, they are some of the finest men anywhere!

Now it’s time for some Block work. 7 Curls, 7 Overhead Presses, 7 Shrugs, 7 Tricep Extensions, 7 Swings, 7 on Your Six Chest Presses and run down to the woods and back. We repeated this 3 times and I ran a little around the parking lot to be sure we got in over 2 miles. #6 Personal F3 Milestone: I led all time F3 Gastonia Posts for a while before Seuss, Broke, Slaw and even Sister Act passed me but I was happy to be able to lead for a while and I may have mentioned it a few times.

And finally #7 Personal F3 Milestone: All the guys I didn’t know before F3 that have made me better in every way! Thanks to you all!

Do Good at Midoriyama

10 pax out on a beautiful afternoon at Midoriyama.
Typical Warmup, SSH, Don Q’s, Low Slows, Plank with some stretches and Merkins.

YHC has been sick so not up to Q strength standards so decided to play some Frisbee Rules football with a Youth sized football that is pretty old and kind of slick and autographed by back up offensive lineman Will Montgomery #66 at Carolina Panthers Training Camp in 2006.

Not much to report. Wiki is fast. Blart is tall. Freight is shifty. Pockets is a cherry picker. Defib is solid. My team won! Wojo drove by but didn’t stop.

Time is running out so back to the flag for a few more Merkins and time.

Pledge.

Word about simply doing good wherever we can. Be available for each man around you as we all have things we are going through.

Discipline Equals Freedom

Crisp morning in big D with a few guys rolling in from EC who obviously saw the Q list and said “I’ll probably need to get in a little extra”. 7:00 am, Wirenut rolls in “almost” on time so now we can start.
Warmup… typical stuff with a few stretches. Let’s Pledge.
Quotes for the day from noted Navy Seal and Motivational speaker Jocko Willink.

Quote #1 – “Don’t just think. Don’t just talk. Don’t just dream. None of that matters. The only thing that matters is that you actually Do. So: DO.”

Mosey around town a little to a newish parking lot for Sidewalk Chalk. 7 spaces with exercises. Perform the exercises to the reps listed and take a lap around the outside of the parking lot then move to the next parking spot. The exercises listed were:
10 Burpees
20 Merkins
30 CDD’s
40 Squats
50 Plank Jacks
60 LBC’s
70 SSH

Quote #2 – “Discipline Equals Freedom.” The name of his book and a hard truth.

Mosey around town through an alley around the Town Square to the entrance where the 24 lb. smaller blocks had been strategically placed.
30 Curls run the courthouse steps to the other entrance for 15 Big Boy Sit Ups and return to the first entrance running the steps again.
Repeat with 30 Overhead presses then American Hammers.
Repeat with 30 Tricep Extensions then Flutter Kicks.
Repeat with Curls and Big Boys.
A certain grandfather may have been using a block in each hand. It blesses my heart to see the active grandparents.

Quote #3 – “We all have a tendency to avoid our weaknesses. When we do that, we never progress or get any better.”

Mosey around the square again only to wind up at the Gazebo for some Ab work picking up a stray wanderer moseying through town alone obviously longing for days gone by when he was a high level town administrator so we decided to take him into our fold. Come on in Mayor. There was a discussion about whether Mayor was trying to double dip on the points for the Pushing Rocks challenge but not gonna happen on my watch. Glad to have you join but, No Rep!
Hammers x 15 IC
Flutter Kicks x 15 IC
LBC’s x 15 IC
Dying Cockroaches x 15 IC
Penguins x 15 IC
WWII’s x 10 OYO
Low Plank for what was seemingly the longest 1 minute ever recorded.

Quote #4 – “Good leaders don’t make excuses. Instead, they figure out a way to get things done.”

Mosey back to the start rolling by Kotter’s Korner and then since several minutes remained we took a lap around the track to finish up.

Quote #5 – “Don’t expect to be motivated every day to get out there and make things happen. You won’t be. Don’t count on motivation. Count on Discipline.” – Jocko Willink

Announcements: Convergence 2/11 at Folsom at 6:30 am, be there.

Candor in the Rain

16 Pax ran or rucked and most stayed for a Q Source discussion on Candor. We discussed being a man who can give Candor and being a man who can take Candor. The trick is building relationships on trust and love where the give and take is possible. That’s a great resolution to work on.

Westside declared we were light on the legs today. There was a lot less running than I usually do due to a calf muscle but a good full body workout. Thanks to the guys for coming out.
