9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

OK HIMS, it’s time to get your stair climb on. There is a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Charlotte that honors FDNY firefighters, police, and EMS who gave their lives so that others might live. This is scheduled for September 14, 2019 at the Duke Energy Building at 550 South Tryon Street in Charlotte. Registration is $25 (that is current price and website says it will change if you wait too long to register). You will get a shirt and get to climb 110 flights of stairs so what are you waiting for? Registration is limited so if you can make it, get on board soon. Roscoe and I have already registered so get your butt in gear and join us.

I registered as a team called F3GasHouse. Not sure if you need it, but the username is F3GasHouse and password is Whoopee.

3 posted at Boars Nest this fine Sunday morning. YHC had the Q. Let’s get to work!

The Thang:

Ruck 1 Mile

Back at Ingles we did the following for 10 sets or close to it. I was really watching the time instead of counting.

50 yd suitcase carry. 25 yds with one hand then switch hands.

10 Ruck High Pulls

25 yd Bear Crawl

Ruck 1 mile to finish

COT with the runners

Moleskin:

This was a good one. Sweat was pouring. Hacksaw was pushing as normal. When he was pushing through on the bear crawls it sounded like he was attacking the poor bear! Big Pappy was getting it done as well pushing on the ruck pace.  I’d like to see more guy’s try out the ruck workout. There’s a lot more to it than just walking with weight. My calorie burn this morning was solid and I worked on muscle gain. Come out and join us sometime. Also I’d like to see Huckleberry post again! #MHPA

Back in the Saddle Again!

After an extended break from The Fighting Yank and some VERY high quality leadership at The Yank Tesla gets back in the cockpit in the pilot’s seat to have a little fun. After a nice roll on the 4th at Special Edition it was time to get back to what we really do – bust it and get a lot better! We also had a FNG that we needed to break in as well courtesy Stroganoff. So as the humidity persisted and if possible got thicker we gathered at the park and made our way to the concrete pad for some COP and beyond. Went like this:

*Stretching (toe touch, foot to hand both sides, up dog, down dog)

*SSH X 20

IW X 20

Copperhead squats X 10

Merkins X 10

Mtn. Climbers X 20

Mosey on over to the dreaded Hawthorne Hill for DORA work

DORA:

100 merkins

200 LBCs

300 squats

P1 – Run the hill to the top.

P2 – Do the work above until P1 gets back then flapjack

This got everybody pretty gassed so we were well on our way to accomplishing the goal of a total SUCK workout! FNG holding up well.

Mosey back towards the traditional AO. Stop for a round of Route 66.

Lunge to each parking line.

Hand release merkins, 1-11. Total 66.

10 count, Mosey to the Field of Dreams.

Warmup for Bear crawl slalom in the shelter

Dips X 10

Step ups x 10

Dirkins x 10

Report to the field for BCS! We had 11 pax and put it looked like @ 6 feet apart which is pretty much the standard per YHC. Everyone got 2 turns and we got to the end of the field.

BCS warm down

SSH X 10

Turkish get ups X 5

Run halfway back, drop and 5 big boys.

End of field, drop and 10 big boys.

Time for some halfpipes!

Top of Heart Break: 5 jump squats.

Bottom pad: 5 merkins

Top of stairs: 5 butt to the street monkey humpers.

Got 2 runs in here. 4 minutes for pax to complete one repeat, then figure a minute to get everybody back ready to repeat.

Back to the shelter for Mary and stretching for @ 3 minutes. Down to The Yank for the pledge.

NMM:

Great work by the pax. Was a tough, humid, hot morning. Welcome FNG Righteous Fox! Keep getting out there brother, You’ll get better fast.

Honor and pleasure to lead. Anybody ready to lead next week? Step up!

The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. .

Today marked the birthday of several celebrities.  Kevin Hart, George Bush, and the Folsom favorite 50 cent to name a few.  But today at PainLab we celebrated an 80’s movie icon, the one and only Sylvester Stallone. So lets put in the Rocky IV  and Rambo sound tracks and put in some work.

The Thang

  • 3 Sets of
    • 25 Rocky Balboas
    • 25 Inclined Merkins
    • 25 Wide Arm Merkins
    • 10 Merkins
  •  Partner Up – One lunge walks to the end parking lot and back
    • 100 Big Boys
    • 200 Flutter Kicks
    • 300 LBC’s
  • Another set of
    • 25 Rocky Balboas
    • 25 Inclined Merkins
    • 25 Wide Arm Merkins
    • 10 Merkins
  • Partner Up – One does a squat at each line in the parking lot down and back
    • 400 Hillbillies
    • 500 Imperial Walkers
    • 600 Moroccan Nightclubs

We finished strong with 50 more Rocky Balboa’s then met back up with the Gashouse for the COT.

We must remember to never give up.  As Rocky once said: “Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”

Special Edition Yank, Independence Day

The 4th of July is one of those days that gets lost a little bit as a day off in the summer, maybe a whole week off work to observe American Independence as it’s “mission”. Lots of big shows, races, barbecues, boat rides, fire works, you name it. But do we ever actually read the document those founders wrote and really give it our thoughts and ask does it mean anything to us today, 243 years later? Unless you are a student of history probably not! So our mission of the day was to do an upbeat workout and then read this declaration aloud to see what it was all about. Went like this:

COP:

Warm up and stretching.

SSH X 20

IW X 20

Merkins X 15

LBCs X 20

Mosey up to the Field of Dreams for a set of blimps

Partner up for BLIMPS, Burpees, Lunges, IWs, Merkins, Plank Jacks, Squats,

Partner 1: Run a lap around the track.

Partner 2: do the “BLIMP” exercise.

Flapjack P1 and P2 upon lap completion. Repeat until we get through the whole BLIMP set.

Move on over to Heartbreak Hill for a set of Half Pipes.

Top of Heartbreak: jump squats X 5

Pad: Burpees X 5

Top of stairs: monkey humpers (butt to the street) X 5

3 repeats of the half pipe, takes @ 12 minutes and has everyone gassed. (Note: After looking at the half pipe in practice you can figure 1 round takes an entire pax @ 4-5 minutes total.

Back to the pad for some warm down stretching and the ceremony

Followup by the statue of The Fighting Yank;

Pledge of Allegiance, then reading the Declaration of Independence YHC had broken down into @ 17 parts for each pax to read. it’s a lot more than the preamble about being endowed by our creator but without that it doesn’t mean anything.  I would highly recommend anybody getting this weekend’s Wall Street Journal that discusses it pretty in depth. It says a lot about what Jefferson, Adams, and Franklin were thinking when they wrote it. And it wasn’t about them. It was about us. And those who come after us. Everywhere.

Sam gave us some words based on Paul Harvey’s July 4, 1974 radio show, a time I well remember as a real low point in the nation’s history. 5 weeks later the president would resign. South Vietnam was collapsing after the US pull out in March 1973. The US economy was beginning to see the inflation that would cripple it until the early 1980s. And the first round of gas lines had occurred along with a close call with nuclear war in October 1973. Talk about a crisis of confidence.

Sam talked about how the signers fro the most part of the declaration suffered pretty badly as a result of their staking out of their positions. They were all men of means, all leaders in their communities, states, and then some semblance of a nation. in most cases they either died during the war or lost everything they had as a result of the war. It was not pretty. So it was in fact an act of sacrificial leadership. With a whole lot of virtue as well.

YHC plans to do this every year by The Fighting Yank. For reasons illustrated above. Come by and listen or if you are motivated help us read! It means a lot.

Happy 4th! And keep it going!

Merica

July 4 in GasHouse-multiple options for F3 workouts but given the holiday, I felt a Murph was in order. I knew there would be no shortage of Merica, but I did not know how much Merica would be there. I was not disappointed.

A few of us put in some EC with some ruck action. I believe there was also running done by 1 or more as well. At 0700 we gave a quick summary of what was on the menu and got started with the mile then jumped right into the workout-100 pull-ups, 200 Merkins, 300 squats. Get them done however you want. There was music, there was some grunting, there were some flags, there was a lot of sweat, and there was a heckuva lotta Merica. A few of the guys that posted at Folsom brought the Merica galore. Tater Hole, Bedpan, and Montross brought a big flag with some music and poured out the inspiration that kept us going. There were comments by non-F3ers about how impressed they were. It was cool to be a part of this. Once the exercises were completed, we got the other mile done then convened with a quick back story on who Michael Murphy was (thanks Roscoe) and how the Murph came to be. If you are not familiar with it, read a little about him. It won’t take long and is well worth your time. We finished with the Pledge and a got in a quick COT.

The flag, the smiles, the friendly faces and “good morning” smiles from the non-F3ers, the effort by the PAX-all of it was great and made this another great workout for me. Thanks for coming out today and pushing the rock again.

America at the Goat

07/04/2019 Goat
PAX: Buckeye, Sister Act, Gumby, Bondo, Dirt, Dr Seuss, Orangeman, Doodles, Def Leppard.
9 strong at the humid, moist Goat where I have never Q’ed before. Nice crowd, let’s go!
Warm Up with 7-4-17-76
7 Burpees
4 Don Quixotes IC
17 Merkins
76 American Hammers (mumblechatter started)
Pledge to the American Flag. (For me, it is always an honor and a privilege to pledge).
Mosey across the road, across the bridge, turn left down the path to the other bridge, then mosey to an outlying, somewhat lit, parking lot where instructions awaited in several parking spots with sidewalk chalk.
Partner up for this one for no apparent reason, but is there?
Each parking spot has an exercise and each group starting in a different parking spot. After the exercise run back to the bridge and return to the next spot. Exercises were:
10 Burpees
20 Diamond Merkins
30 Carolina Dry Docks (insert Leppard joke here)
40 Squats
50 Seal Jacks
60 LBC’s
70 SSH
10 Flutters
20 Merkins
Everyone moved through this pretty well. I was hoping to catch Buckeye and/or Sister Act with bad form somewhere during this but it did not happen! Believe me, I was looking for it so nice work to them and everyone! The point was made that even though other guys seemed to be ahead of us, each guy was going through the same stuff. I wanted the guys to see one of the many great effects of F3 is usually there is a guy who has been through whatever situation you are facing. I also wanted them to realize there is also a guy right with you to help you make it through. I encouraged each man to talk to someone if they have a problem and also to be open to listen to someone. Mosey back across the bridge to a picnic shelter.
80 D’s
20 Dips IC
20 Dollies IC
20 Derkins (plan was for IC but we may have changed to single count)
20 Dyeing Cockroaches IC
Back to the flag for guess what…
7 Burpees
4 Don Quixotes IC
17 Merkins
76 American Hammers
Announcements: July 20th the 2.0 workout at Folsom, July 20th tubing.
COT
Doodles took us out.
Thanks to each man who posted and see you next time!

GDiggathon Pt. 7: The Finale

Wow, what a week. 7 Q’s in 5 days finally comes to a close. While it wasn’t easy, it was one of the most exciting and motivating things I have attempted in F3. I would encourage anyone who has the time to try at least doing 3 or 4 bootcamps Q’s in a row. It really forces you outside of the box creatively and keeps you on your toes in ways you wouldn’t expect. Also, if you’re stupid like me, throw in a marathon worth of EC during the week…

Mega Slaughter Starter: 30 burpees (foreboding much?). Mosey to parking deck for 11’s on the stairs with Monkey Humpers and Burpees. Outside to the park lot for a Merkin crawl: Rte 66 with a bear crawl to each line. Mosey to baby parking garage for Dora with some abs and employee dodging. Mosey back to start. Tried to convince the PAX to close out with 30 bookend burpees, but YHC could only squeeze out 5-10 from a few brave HIMs.

I appreciate the support (and hate) from each and every one of you who came out to this crazy streak of Q’s, but a special shout out has to be given to the ultimate groupies: Slaw and Dr.  Seuss. Both of these gentlemen made it to 6 of the 7 Diggathon workouts. I don’t know if they deserve a pat on the back or a brain scan, but I truly appreciate the dedication.

Until next time,

GD

GDiggathon Pt. 6: The Frisbee

25 burpees to make up for missing a few on Tuesday and then about 40 minutes of ultimate frisbee. This was my “easy” workout, but I think you can ask anyone there in the 95 degree heat, it wasn’t a walk in the park.

Pray for all the PAX, Kotters, IR, and Sad Clowns.

GDiggathon Pt. 5: The Goat

The Greatest Of All Time, the Get Outside And Train, the GOAT Island! Man, I’m really running out of good titles…

After a solid day of running at Snoballs, it was time to mix it up.

Burpees to start (obviously). Triple Nickel on the hill. Some conversation about how one counts a triple nickel… 3 sets of 5? 5 sets of 3? 5 of 5? Whatever. If that wasn’t confusing, time for some “new” 11’s around the church. Partners run opposite directions and every time they meet, drop for 10-1, 9-2, etc. of both exercises. Some conversation about how that was supposed to work… Mosey down to the lodge for some wall work and wrapped up with the classic GD shoulder burn and of course bookend burpees.

Announcements: Probably outdated due to the lateness of this BB.

Prayer Requests: Def Leppard’s daughter, Montross’ mother, those who serve our country, both at home and abroad.
