Army PFT

What I believe to have been 19 PAX posted at Midoriyama on Tuesday. My Q ran a little long so PAX started scattering before we could get in the COT. I’ve done my best to recall all that were there. If I missed you please fill out the paperwork and submit it to editorial.

I came in Hot and Pizza Man had things started. Tyson and Tooltime took off to run.

Let’s Mosey! Everyone get a block and go to the farthest soccer field.

The Thang:

I decided to share some of the first things we did at out Goruck event Friday night.

2 minutes Merkin AMRAP

2 minutes Situp AMRAP

partner counted and held the person doing the exercise accountable for good form.

2 mile run

Google the test and check your score.

Partner up. Carry partner 100 yds and leave him there. Run back to the other end and get both of your blocks. Carry them to the 25 and do 10 burpees, the same at the 50 and the other 25. Once you return to your partner body drag him to the 50 go get the blocks and run back to the start.

COT:

Welcome Buidin’s son Crawdad!

It was nice to show up in the gloom with the temperature at 56 degrees. Unlike the past few mornings posting. Anyway, Hank don’t do backblasts so Sparky and I take up his slack to write up a backblast for him.

Warmarama; nothing, mosey

mosey to the park entrance for….

pledge

thang:

Mosey, for like forever around the park. Stop randomly for 20 burpees OYO. Wait there’s a train add 5 more. Mosey, like forever again. Stop for 50 plank jacks. Again mosey forever, then stop for 100 Good Mornings. Mosey, stop again for 150 monkey jumpers. This was awesome timing for Roadie to be humping as a County Police Car pulls in and parks. Weird that he lined up directly behind Roadie? Anyway, mosey again then stop. Realizing time is coming to an end, Q asks what mileage we were at, so we continue to mosey. At each stop, PAX were to plank, SSH, or other exercise waiting for the 6. After it was all said and done. Men hit 3.3 miles and got sore lower backs. Hank never calls anything outrageous, but it is always stupid.

Anouncements; CSAUP, Community Run….dates??? YHC not very good with that part.

Prayer: Sparky took us out.

nice work men. No, Folsom is not a running AO

3rdF Quarterly Meeting Preblast

Alright Men the 3rdF quarterly event has finally been set for Friday April 13, 2018. Speakers start at 7:00pm so arrive before to get your coffee and your seat. Yes I do realize that is not in the first quarter but hey its close. It’s not like Christmas in June or anything! I’m very excited to hear what our speakers have for us. This quarter we have the wise one Def Leppard and the quite one Blart. From my experience if either of these guys have something to say it would be best to listen!

If you are new or didn’t make it out to our first event last year I highly recommend you attend. This is a time for our brothers to share some wisdom based on faith without the distractions of the 1stF.

The meeting will take place at The Porch back behind Parkwood Baptist. It is at the intersection of Burton Wood drive and Dixon Rd in Gastonia.

The Gauntlet

13 men started the week off the right way. 5 of those showed a little early for a little extra credit.

The Thang:

SSH 40

Merkins 10

Mosey down the road and to the back entrance of the park.

50 LBC’s

Plank for 6

Mosey to the middle soccer field.

Plank for 6.

Middle of soccer field 1 Burpee, run to sidewalk and 10 Squats, Run to top of hill for 10 Get Ups.

The squats are a constant everytime you pass the sidewalk. The Burpee’s and Get Ups are repeated until you reverse the number, 11’s.

Picnic benches while waiting on 6. Some guys were ahead of me doing LBC’s.

40 Flutter Kicks on my count.

50 LBC’s

Mosey back to start because we are out of time.

The Moleskin:

Good morning and everyone worked hard including me. Boudin is a beast, this guy is killing it all the time. Kudos. Davinci, it was good to have you back in the gloom. Whoopee finished the hard part and headed out to make work.  Finishing the workout is one thing but finishing with good form makes it even harder.

Prayers for Belmont Abbey student and for Hushpuppy’s son who is starting to date.

Iron Sharpens Iron, who are you going to sharpen today?

It was an honor and always is,

Gastone Out!

Painopoly

My goal in life is to come up with fun and creative ways to turn the ordinary into extraordinary.  Thankfully, F3 has let me use them as my canvas. Since I’ve joined I’ve seen my fair share of workout creativity from every Q, daily, therefore I was excited when I got the chance to Q the Pain Lab at the Gashouse. When I was a young boy I loved playing board games. It allowed my family to come together to enjoy each others company and put aside our busy lives outside the home, so I thought it would be interesting to incorporate that same idea into an F3 workout. Just hangout, chat and play a friendly game. That said, Painopoly was born. Which is A redesign of the classic board game Monopoly for those that couldn’t figure it out. Streets were renamed to match those in the Gaston county area, A Kettlebell workout instead of a property value, Railroad’s would appropriately have 5 Burpee’s, A 1Lb Kettlebell for the game piece and I even had some fun with the Chance and Community Chest cards. Only difference with my version is that no one wins, everyone loses.

Excitement was setting in during the week as I began promoting it. The interest and intrigue was there but no HC’s, so how many would show? On my way in early and I forgot the dice, side trip to Wal-Mart. As I arrived to the AO quite early, as did Stroganoff for his recon, I began wondering if the gloom would hinder reading the Painopoly board spaces. I began my recon of the parking lot in search of the brightest spot. Found a good spot under a set of parking lot lights. The nervous tinkles hit me so found a tree quickly. At this point it’s 6:50 and not much traffic coming in. Panic sets in. Did I scare people off? 7AM and we have a good showing of 13 collectively. After the warm-up and pledge 3 decide to stay back with me. Thank you T-Square, Mayor and Billy Madison. Billy Madison was definitely intrigued by it, so much that instead of totally skipping the Saturday workout he managed to squeeze in about 20 minutes until he had to leave for his sons baseball tournament.

The Thang:

We played Painopoly, listened to some loud metal and had great conversation.

Rules:

  1. Roll the dice and move the appropriate amount of spaces
  2. Do the exercise on the space
    1. Chance or Community Chest – Draw a card from the correct pile. Could be an exercise, a rest, Go To Jail or even an Omaha for the next exercise of your choosing.
  3. While the next player rolls every other player needs to do a wall sit

Some how T-Square managed to land on every Railroad (5 Burpees each), we went to jail (15 Burpees) once and I think Mayor drew a Chance card with 5 Burpees. We also managed to land on Kettlebell cleans 4 times which = 4 sets of 10 reps. There was some grunting and groaning so I knew the reps I had labelled were a good number. Although we didn’t manage to hit every exercise on the board, we hit a good number that worked just about every muscle group with intensity.

The PAX seemed to really enjoy playing and cannot thank them enough for participating. There is talk this may make another appearance in the near future. Show to know. If anyone would like to use this for a workout or another Pain Lab, let me know and I’ll let you borrow it. While I legally cannot sell this (copyright infringement with Parker Bros/Hasbro), If you want your own I’ll gladly make you one if you want. Only thing in return is you must make a minimum $20 donation to a local charity. By charity I mean like Rolling Hornets, not Mayor.

Thank you again for letting me lead. It is truly an honor and privilege. I hope you enjoyed your time and got in a good weight workout. Until next time, Aye!!

Mosey or Ruck for –5 miles

Great weather today and a great group of guys! Good to see this AO holding the number of men it has been lately YHC looks forward to Sunday morning with his F3 brothers! Sargento and YHC ran up on Snapper out walking his dog….which turned into Snapper running his dog up robin wood rd! Hopefully he’ll post next Sunday for the whole mosey! Strong work by all! Especially impressed to see Boudin out there after his Go Ruck tough event Friday night!

Tool Time

Top ‘O The Mornin to Ya

This time of year is awesome. Grass starts getting greener again, flowers have started popping out and the weather is perfect for getting out to push yourself to be better. In YHC’s opinion it’s the best season, especially when you can have fun celebrating a day like St. Patrick’s day. This was the theme for today’s beatdown!

YHC was running a little behind this morning and when he arrived the PAX present and accounted for. There were big things planned for the men of the Yank today so after a very short disclaimer and a warmup consisting of just 10 Goofballs IC it was time to get moving. We moseyed about 20 feet for the Pledge of Allegiance then everyone picked up their coupons from the trunk for an extended mosey. Lately YHC has become a fan of having music to keep us pushing so we grabbed the speaker and set out on an extended mosey. The first session included some of my favorite Irish jigs, perfect for keeping your mind off of the mosey.

After about 15 minutes, we arrived at the destination, the new Teeter in Belmont. Nice newly paved parking lot and an empty field and hill for conquering! To give the PAX a chance to catch their breath, we had a round of St. Patrick’s day trivia. So much fun. DJ Jazzy Sargento switched up the music for Ireland’s undisputed kings of Irish music, U2!

A prior count-off gave us 7 strong this morning, so partner up, plus 1 for the St. Patrick’s day version of Dora 123, the over-the-top Sinead 123!

Sinead 123: Partner up, cumulative reps while carrying coupons

  • 100 Brickens
  • 200 Shoulder Presses
  • 300 Squats

A couple more trivia spots and then it’s time for the last routine.

Quarter Pounder with Cheese

  • Run 1/4 way across the parking lot, do 25 Merkins, NUR back
  • Run 1/2 way across, 50 lunges, NUR back
  • Run 3/4 way across, 75 Mountain Climbers, NUR back
  • Run all the way across, 100 SSH, NUR back

We were pretty well gassed at this point and still had the 15 minute mosey back so YHC took the idea from Orangeman during the first mosey to leave the coupons behind and get em later. The PAX liked this idea. Smart guy that Orangeman! Let’s mosey.

Upon arrival we had time for about 30 seconds of plank. Time.

It’s a lot of fun leading you men. We have a great group coming out regularly. There are a lot more who’ve come in the past but have gotten out of the routine so call, text, tweet, slack attack or visit a brother you know who needs to come back. They miss us, just need a little encouragement to realize it.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day (he wasn’t Irish)!!!

Going to the Library shouldn’t hurt

After yesterday’s leg beatdown by Roscoe downtown, I had to rethink the workout today.    My legs were in agony this morning….what would we do?

I showed around 6:15 to get in some light running/walking so I could stretch the legs and get warmed up a little before the main workout.  I guess it worked….I also did some recon (I know….how many times have I posted at Gashouse, why do I need to do some recon?) to come up with something new.  I’m sure the PAX would be disappointed  if we did not have the Wolfpack Grinder portion of the program but it might not happen today.

13 PAX showed by 7:00 am (4 for the Painlab; 9 for the boot camp) and T-Square made sure YHC knew that 7:00 am was upon us.

Let’s get in some IC warm up:

SSH X 22

Appalachian Americans X 10

Pledge

Groups split up (Thanks to Roscoe for grabbing his phone as we need one with us at every workout)

The Thang

Mosey across Garrison to the lower parking lot behind the Library for something new from me.  For those of you that have been posting for a while and know me, this is big when I come up with something knew.  I have yet to come up with a name for this but here’s what we did:

Partner Up

Partner 1 runs up the two sets of steps to the backside of the Library and back to the start while Partner 2 performs as many reps as possible of the following exercises:

Merkins X 4 Rounds

Very short rest before starting the next exercise/running session

Flutter Kicks X 4 Rounds

Very short rest before starting the next exercise/running session

Deep Squats X 4 Rounds

This was so much fun we decided to do 2 more rounds of each with no rest between changing exercises

Merkins X 2 Rounds

Flutter Kicks X 2 Rounds

Deep Squats X 2 Rounds

After Monk gave us a quick 10 count, we moseyed back across Garrison to the track at Grier Middle School for another new short exercise:

Run/Mosey/Sprint a Half Lap – 5 Burpees – Run/Mosey/Spring a Half Lap (back to the start) – 5 burpees – 50 LBC’s

Mosey to the picnic tables (now this is how we end a Stroganoff workout) for some IC work:

Dips X 20

Step Ups X 20

Derkins X 15

LBC’s X 25

Dips X 15

Step Ups X 20

Derkins X 10

LBC’s X 20

Time is running out.  Time to mosey back to the Flag.  There was much curiosity at Hipaa’s Painopoly game, I will await that BB.  Just enough time for some IC Flutter Kicks X 40………finished just as the First Pres bells were ringing.

Several announcements:  October 6 – BurpeeThon will return; CSAUP coming up on April 7 (Today is last day to register) – Sounded like an HC from JJ and Roscoe; Community Foundation Run on April 14th; Christina Latini Memorial 8k (Operation Sweet Tooth) on April 21

Several Prayers including JK2’s Dad, Monk’s Daughter (State Gymnastics Competition), Gashouse Goruck Team, Def Leppard’s Son, and others.

Name-O-Rama with video (I normally forget) – Sorry, no group picture.  Several for Coffeeteria at Panera.

Moleskin

After travelling and being on the DL briefly over the past few weeks, I realized how much I rely on you men to keep me focused and grounded (and in shape – did I say my legs are killing me?).  When I miss posting or working out somewhere for several days, I lose that sense of daily accomplishment and progess.  I know I have said it many times before but F3 matters and you guys are making a daily positive impact on the persons around you.  Keep it up.

I hope today’s workout was worthy of your time.  Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

Until the next one.  Aye!

Stroganoff

The Ministry of Silly Walks

It was a great day to post downtown.

Warm up

SSH- I saw car headlights as soon as we started and knew we had to wait for the unknown late arrival to jump in and get at least one SSH before we stop.  The late arriver was none other than Blart.  He…..took…..his……sweet……….time………          PAX SSH=41?     Blart=1

Next exercise was Deep Sea Divers in honor of the absent site Q Spiderman.  These are easier when you are fresh.
10 Squats
Mosey to the Methodist Church small parking lot with the incline.  Start at the bottom for elevens/Jacob’s Ladder.  One Squat at the bottom, ten Bobby Hurley’s at the top and Jacob’s ladder until one Bobby Hurley and ten Squats.  HushPuppy didn’t say DFQ but he was thinking it.    Gastone was a beast today.  He embraced a leg intensive workout.  Who knew he liked doing legs?

Plank for the six and then 16 Mountain Climbers IC.
Mosey to the steps in front of the church for 50 calf raises OYO.

Mosey to the big parking lot, and lunge walk the length of it heading uphill.

Back bridge leg raises.

Mosey to the parking deck.  Steps to the top for partner squats x 20.  P1 jumps on P2’s back and P1 does 20 squats.  Switch.  YHC is very thankful that Hushpuppy has been pushing the rock lately and is only 17.1429 stone.  (a little British weight reference since we were dedicating this workout to Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks skit).  Good work here.  Guys are different sizes so 20 squats with manly men on your back was tough.

Back down the steps and across the street to the McQuitter’s wall for a set of leg work.

Wall jumps x 20

Step ups x 20

Box squats x 20

One leg lunges x 10 each leg

Mosey across the street.

At the first 3 light poles 10 Sumo Squats

Then lungewalk to the three way stop…the blinking three way stop.  This exercise wasn’t so bad because Medicine Woman and Slaw were busy talking about whether or not the first three way stop was the one where we should stop.  The problem is there was no flashing light.  Gastone was first to the top of the street and confirmed that it actually was a three way stop.

Mosey to the Pavilion and 50 calf raises OYO.

5 minutes of Mary

5 burpees OYO because we didn’t do any.  Come to think of it, I don’t ever remember a downtown workout without a train going by.  Maybe we just didn’t hear it?

On your back, cross your right leg over your left and grab your knee and pull it close.  Then release your hands and keep your knee in place.  Switch….lots of mumble chatter about this stretch.  It must have taken longer than I thought because the alarm sounded at 0615 and the workout was over.

Random thoughts…

I forgot to do jump lunges because I never looked at my Weinke.  #Qfail!

It was good to see Slaw come in early wearing the Oakley t-shirt.  It looked familiar and then he reminded me it was the “smedium” shirt that I gave him.  It looks better on him and the cool factor is over the top.  We got our 25 V-up things done for the monthly challenge right away before the workout.  Day 16 done!

Eat lots of protein today and keep hydrated.

Hipaa was wearing his weighted vest again.  Get some.

It was great to see Pockets, Medicine Woman, and Oompa Loompa downtown.

Lots of events coming up….Gastonia CSAUP relay race “Going the extra Mile coming April 7th.  Sign up by March 17th.  Community Foundation Run-April 14th, Christina Latini Memorial 8K in Huntersville, April 21st.

Prayers for our four PAX doing the Ruck event with MECA tonight in Concord.  Woody, Boudin, Whoopee, and Freight are going to get after it!

Prayers for Def Leppard’s son Logan and for all the PAX that push the rock and all the men that don’t know they need F3.

Final thought….I listened to F3 Houston’s roundtable call yesterday and although we know each other, if an accident happened to one of us during a workout, would we be prepared to give aid?  We are good about carrying at least one cell phone but where is the nearest hospital?  Would we wait for an ambulance or scoop and go?  Who would we contact for you in an emergency?
This is a problem we need to solve and find a best practice.  Collecting the emergency contact information won’t be hard.  How do we put it into a retrievable file that we can access in an emergency?  If you have thoughts DM me.

Always a pleasure to lead!  Hopefully your walk will be adequately silly and we can get that government grant.

2Q’s

16 PAX kept the average strong at F3 Gastonia’s JV workout Midoriyama. Tooltime had the Q but is having some muscle issues so he asked if I could help out. I always like Qing so fo sho I will! TT took a group for a 5 mile run and I lead a group for some bootcamp.

Pledge together

Warmup:

Runners off.

SSH x 10ic, Don Q’s x 10ic, Grasspickers x 10ic, Goofballs x 10ic.

Lets Mosey. We went to the top of the lake hill everyone has been using lately. We saluted it by turning our backs and doing 10 monkeyhumpers ic. Mosey to the shelter.

The Thang:

I explained to everyone I hadn’t planned much and wasn’t really looking to push too much since the Goruck tough is tonight. Let’s get on with it.

Arm squats x 15ic

Derkins x 10ic

Stepups x 15ic

Arm squats x 10ic

Derkins x 7ic

Stepups x 10ic

Arm squats x 5ic

Derkins x 5ic

Stepups x 5ic

Good Work let’s mosey. Along the way YHC had an idea. Lets cross the street and do deep sea divers on the split rail fence. 5 merkins on each rail. This worked much better than expected on the fence! Really look forward to doing this more.

Lets mosey to the stairs. WWI’s at the bottom and top while you wait and 10 calf raises on each step. 13 steps total.

Wall sit at the shack. Start at one end and do 5 jump squats each. That was fun lets do it again starting at the other end. At this point Swimmer had a great idea so we headed back to the flag for some Iron Hulk.

Iron Hulk is Jack Webbs at a 1/4 ratio. We had a few guys experience this for the first time and had the same response most of us do….Why the hell is it so hard to lift my arms!

We did a few abs before calling time

COT:

Announcements-CSAUP sign up before Saturday, Community Run, The Forge needs a Q next week, Convergeance on the 24th at Folsom at 7:00

Prayer Request-World Wide Son, Def Leppards son, Several friends and family battling cancer,

Moleskin-Tclaps to the men of the region for helping out Maddens friend and his family who lost everything in a fire. $700 raised to help. The family is VERY appreciative. As always it was a pleasure to spend time with you fellows. I finished up with a message about rewards and not waiting for them but going after them. If we seek God we will find him.
