Our Redeemer

“But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, “As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life out of every adversity,”
‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭4:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Lord lives and is sovereign over all of life and for the believer we can look back and see how the Lord has redeemed us and brought us threw life’s trials and rest assured that He will be with us till the end!

Sword/ Hebrews 12:1 “Run”

5 Men resisted the fartsack, and focused on running a race set before them!
“Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

John Piper said “ Hebrews 12:1 is a command to look at your life, think hard about what you are doing, and get ruthless about what stays and what goes.”

This command in Hebrews doesn’t come out of the blue! The writer tells the people to lay aside every weight, and sin that clings closely, and let us run the race that is set before us!

He is talking to a church that has gone into a passive, coasting mode! They have begun to have a lazy sense of security. The disease of drifting and neglecting has crept into the church! The people are growing careless and spiritually lazy. Does this sound familiar?

The main point the writer is making here is “RUN”!

Run the race set before you!
Dont stroll , don’t wonder about aimlessly!

Run as in a race with a finish line and with everything hanging on it! Because it is!
When he says “every weight “, it may not be sin, but may be something slowing you down, keeping you from running!

Ask your self about the things in your life, does it help me run? Is it in my way? Slowing me down, or hindering me from pursuing Christ?  from growing in my relationship with him? From leading my family to know the one who loves them more then I do?

Prayer request- SAs family , Big Pappy, our community, each other

Expectant Prayer

This morning’s verse at the Sword (Praying Expectantly):

Mark 11:23-24 NLT:  I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into
the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt
in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve
received it, it will be yours.

Grief?

We had a good turnout at the Sword this morning, most ran, a couple rucked! We all circled up for some scripture at 6!
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.

grief- deep sorrow

Worldly grief produces death!
it’s when someone is sad or deeply sorrowful over consequences, most of the time with no true intentions of repentance, although Hebrews 12:17 speaks of says “Esau found no chance of repentance, though he sought it with tears”.

Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation!
It produces a true change of heart and mind! Away from evil and towards God! A great example of godly grief is Psalm 51, where David is completely broken over his sin and turns to God to cleanse him and restore him!

Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near.”

Prayer requests- Sister Acts daughter and family, men on the ir, teachers/Seuss, school staff and students, community.

The God of All Comfort

It was a good morning for a short mosey and the Word. The verse of the week was…

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

If you continue reading through ch. 1 Paul tells us that God comforts us in a ALL our afflictions so that we can comfort others in ANY affliction. We’ve all heard it said “you can’t understand because you haven’t been through what I’m going through.“ Sure that may be true, but as believers in Christ we don’t have to go through the same afflictions as others because Jesus has been through it already “Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2:17-18‬ ‭ESV‬‬ this is the reason why we don’t have to go through the same things to comfort one another. This is one of the mysteries of the God we serve that He allows us to be partakers in His work. How amazing it is that the Creator of the cosmos indwells His children by His Spirit so that we may comfort others. As believers we are not called to seek comfort but to seek out others to comfort. If we seek to comfort others God will see to it that we are comforted. Brothers I pray that we would be diligent in our comforting. We all need each other and our Father in Heaven has given us each other. Don’t waste your opportunities! Who can you reach out to this week and comfort?

SELF-CONTROL

The verse of the week: “Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.”
‭‭Titus‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The emphasis was on being self-controlled. Self-control or self-controlled is used 13 times in the Bible, once in the Old Testament and twelve in the New Testament. Seems to be a pretty important virtue for the believer not to mention it’s one of the fruits of the Spirit “Galatians 5:23”. All you have to do is look around and you’ll notice that most people are striving for self-entitlement and self-gratification. Being Self-controlled  is a choice, it’s not something that just happens. It’s making small choices in a positive direction day after day until it becomes habit. Rinse and Repeat!
