Crossroads at The Sword

At the Sword,  we usually stay in line with the Q Source topics at Crossroads, but apply the Word to it.

Today was no different.

Matthew 19 13-15:

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”  And he laid his hands on them and went away.

Here are some opportunities to support those without a strong male role leader to help them.

Prepare To End Well

Huckleberry texted Sparky and me and ask if one of us could Q The Sword because it was his birthday and he was going to be away. So Sparky and I decided to co-Q. And it was Broke’s birthday too. (RESPECT)👊🏻!

So a few of us were fresh out of the Snowbird men’s retreat while some others were crushing the different relays going on (great job men, y’all crushed it!) while some of you HIM’s held down the fort (thank you men for guarding the home front!). With all that being said Sparky and I thought it would be great to share a few things we heard and learned over the weekend.

Here’s what we talked about:
We talked about being prepared to finish well and we looked 2 Kings 20:16-19. Isaiah comes to Hezekiah and tells him that a day is coming when the LORD is going to take everything they have and even some of his on sons will be made eunuchs in the Babylon palace. Sadly Hezekiah chose to not end well, “Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?””
‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭20:19‬ ‭ESV‬‬. Hezekiah wasn’t thinking about his children or the future generations to come. He was only thinking about himself and his present situation with no regard for the future.

A sure way to be a poor leader it to do nothing, just be unprepared! We have to prepare to finish strong. How many men do you know who has finished strong? All you have to do is turn on the TV or look on social media and you will see a host of men who haven’t  prepared to finish well. Men who in their mid to latter years should be paving the way and teaching the younger men how to live a life worth imitating (Phil. 2:17).
It really doesn’t matter how well you do when your fresh in the race, it’s that last mile that counts! Man can only push so far on his on, we need other men who will be honest with us, who we can confide in, who will push us and keep us accountable. F3 is a great way to have all these things but there has to be a personal time in the Word “Bible” studying, learning and growing in the most important relationship we have and that’s our relationship with Jesus.
We all like to prepare when we know where the end is, but in life we don’t know when the end will be. Calamity doesn’t make a man it reveals him to himself and to those around him.

A few bullet points from the men’s retreat:

• Be surrounded by men who will tell you the truth

•Be aware of your tendency for self indulgence

•Be aware of your influence: from others and to others

•Solitude: we need time alone with the Lord-more than just Bible reading. Earnestly seeking His will through pray

•A since of entitlement will destroy you:  you’re  owed nothing but you owe everything as a leader. Learn to be a servant leader

•Repentance should be a pattern in our lives: David says in Psalm 51:4 “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.”   Walk in repentance

Part of finishing well is shepherding your flock in the love and grace of Jesus Christ to the end!

Wichita out and on to the next

We Carry Each Other’s Burdens

8 HIMS’s got out of the fartsack this morning and made the decision to get better.  Wirenut, Wichita, Well Done, and YHC went and rucked the hills of Dallas. Sparky and Rabbit Ears went for a run, while Sarlaac and Hacksaw did a recovery fellowship mosey.  Solid work put in by all.

We then circled up for a discussion on Galatians 6:2 “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”

YHC thanked the PAX for praying and reaching out to me through the situations that life has dealt me in these last several months.

The PAX  of F3 Gastonia live Galatians chapter 6 everyday and it is one of the many reasons we continue to grow in spirit and in numbers.

Healthy body

Pappy asked me a couple weeks ago if I’d Q the Sword today, and I said yes, knowing I have been the king of the fartsack for a while, but hoping it would help! And it did, it got me out of the bed, and pushed me to get into the Word! When Pappy asked, he told me the theme right now at the Sword is the Body of Christ “ the church”! So I went with Ephesians 4:16- the ESV- “ From whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

The NLT- He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

If we have been saved, if we are followers of Christ? Then we are part of the body of Christ, the church!

Once we are part of this body, we are being equipped to do a job, each part has a special job! We need and depend each other, so that each part can function properly. Each part is different, but has one goal, to glorify God!!

When I was studying, I was thinking about a marathon runner, he is one body with many parts! Who’s goal is finishing the race, 26.2 miles!! If one part on this runner isn’t working properly, the whole body feels it! When a part is weak or hurt, it affects the runner, no matter how small or insignificant the part may be, it’s important! Sometimes a body part has to work harder to make up for the weaker part, and in turn can get hurt itself! God has placed a special calling on each of us, and it’s important that we walk in a manner worthy of that calling!

I am thankful for strong parts that carry the load when I am weak!

Announcement- several runs coming up, and a CSAUP

Prayer request- Big Pappy and family, SA and family, Montross mom, Wichita’s mom, each other

Pappy thank you for asking, and letting me lead this morning!

Getting Right at the Sword

4 HIM’s came to the Sword for a few miles and the word. We had a great discussion on how we can “Get Right” studying and reading the good Word.  The best way to start a week is at at the Sword.

Verse of the week.

Proverbs 28:13 – Whoever conceals his transgressions with not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

Happy Birthday Wichita.

BE READY!

8 made it out for a time of fellowship in the word this morning! It was the first time I had the Q at the sword in probably a year so it felt good to be able to share the word with these guys this morning.

I took it to 1 Peter 3:15 and it says: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

Let’s grow with the Lord and sow our hearts with Gods way and not our own! We need to know the word and be ready to answer to those that have questions about God and that may be lost and searching! At the same time we have to know the word to defend it and stand against the trials we face daily.

It says answer with meekness and fear meaning don’t be boastful or prideful in your response to those that are reaching out! Don’t think you have risen above Gods calling on your life. Be there for people and be humble in the process. You never know when your going to be on the other side of the fire!
