Earlier in the year it was decided we would try and do a convergence once a qtr since we now have workouts spread across Gaston county. The 4th and final one this year was held at the original AO Gashouse(Schielle Museum). The timing on this one was to collect items for the Boys and Girls Club in the name of OST. We did this last year and everyone at the club was very grateful. If you are able, come out on the 12th to help take these items to donate them and see for yourself. Bandit will be sending out the time. This one was also scheduled the morning after our Christmas party so that we could keep each other accountable at the party. It worked for some and some it didn’t but all that could made the workout anyway. So below is how it went.
Warmup:
YHC talked for a few minutes about building leadership during F3. Something we sometimes lose sight of. It takes all of us participating and stepping up to lead to keep this thing going.
Pledge
Let’s mosey! We went up to the track. I figured everyone would think we would stop once we got there so we went on around for a lap.
The Thang:
YHC read a story called That’s Not My Job(Google it). It’s about Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. I’ve had this hanging in my office for years and read it at least once a week.
Partner up and line up down the sideline of the football field. For the next while we did the same thing and just swapped out the exercise. P1 runs across the field and back while P2 does the exercise then switch.
100 Merkins
200 In/Outs
100 Squats
200 Plank Jacks
200 Def Leppard Merkins
Even though there were so many of us and we were spread out on the field the mumblechatter was still very strong! Great job everyone!
We circled back up in an uncomfortable close sweaty circle. YHC talked. I do that every once in a while. I mean I don’t really like too but sometimes I will. This is what I said in a nutshell:
Thank You to everyone for supporting me in my time as Nantan. Thanks to Whoopee for giving me the opportunity to lead and learn. Mostly I learned. I learned what I believe the Nantan should be and that I’m not quite there. I struggle with how to motivate others to lead. I believe I can and do lead but not in the true fashion of a leader. A leader shouldn’t just get people to follow him but should be inspiring others to lead. My promise to you, with your help, is I will continue to learn and grow as that kind of leader. For now I will hand the position over to a man that inspires us all. This guy is always pushing and supporting the PAX. He is always looking out for the six. I saw him jump out of a car and get the six at a workout he wasn’t even at! For the past 6 months or so he has pushed us all with his involvement in SFN. I am proud to call him my friend and brother and know that I’m way better off now that he is in my life. TOOLTIME!!!!!!!!
Ok so I may not have said it just like that but something like that. At this point Tooltime took over as Q.
After Freight handed the Q over YHC explained that Brownstreak was a guy that YHC always looked up to. That even though he was a quiet guy he would ALWAYS bring it when it came to beat downs. So in honor of Brownstreaks return this past week YHC gives you….
The Dirty 30!
30 Squats
30 Merkins
30 Jump Squats (for Dolph….shouldn’t have shared that info on our ride to meet Austin brother!)
I think YHC heard a train here 5 Burpees OYO (YHC hearing not so good could’ve been and ambulance)
30 CDD’s (you’re welcome Def Leppard)
30 Lunges each leg!
30 Burpees (for Slaw)
30 LBC’s
30 Mountain Climbers each leg
30 WWI sit-ups
Done!
Mosey back to the Shiele to meet up with the Pain Lab for some Mary
Bandit called of course Dying Cockroaches 20 IC?
Short Sale called Ski Abs – 20 IC?
And Gastone was selected (YHC apologizes for that!) 3,000,000 Flutter Kick IC (at least it seemed like that many!
Finish off with 5 Burpees OYO
Time
YHC is honored and humbled that Freight has selected him to take over as Nantan Next year. YHC prays and asks for prayers for wisdom, strength, courage, humility, grace so that YHC can serve the men of Gashouse well this next coming year. Thank you Freight for your service and dedication to F3 Gastonia this past year as Nantan …..YHC has a tough road ahead following you. It is truly an honor to call you a brother and a friend!
Announcements: Operation Sweet Tooth toy collection to happen immediately after Prayers. ( Contact Bandit if you still want to donate YHC believes you have this week to still support), Joe Davis 5k/10k Jan 6th SpeedForNeed will be there, Pizza Man taking over as First F and Q and SpeedForNeed Gashouse Regional Q,
Prayers
Proverbs 27:
17Iron sharpens iron,
and one man sharpens another.
It seemed like only yesterday YHC was sending JRR Tolkien a txt saying “This SpeedForNeed Thing, I have to be a part of it. I have to push a Chair do you Understand, I have to!” Fast forward 5 months and here we are at Gashouse’s inaugural SpeedForNeed Race! Something changed in YHC when I saw this thing that is SpeedForNeed; there was a deep down in your gut Heart response for YHC….this mattered.
Wow is it November 25th already? The day seemed to take FOREVER to get here….and then when it was upon YHC it seemed like there wasn’t enough time! YHC was a nervous wreck the day of! Would all the Track Commanders make it? Would their Families have parking? Would anyone get hurt and so many more things flooded YHC mind. Then what should’ve happened first Pray! God was in this YHC knew he was in this! And let me tell you for those of you reading this that were unable to make it HE showed up in a BIG MAGICAL way!
The Families arrived one by one and YHC talked with them as they arrived. YHC had the pleasure of meeting James’s, Amy’s and Austin’s families before the race. And I have the Pleasure of knowing T-Square as my F3 brother for about 2 1/2 years now! YHC didn’t know at the start of all this that meeting the families BEFORE the race would be such a blessing. Men that’s where the connection happens! You get to KNOW there stories and their stories matter! Edison, Dolph, and Pizza Man all went with YHC to meet there riders, and having met them there’s more of a bond on the track the day/night of a race! If YHC could recommend anything to a Q / Driver for future events it would be to meet the families before a race it makes all the difference.
Thank you everyone involved in this at Gashouse! All of you made a difference that night with these kids. They were smiling and you could see the joy in their eyes! Thank you JRR Tolkien for sharing your vision and making it come alive for the f3 Nation to serve some of the most overlooked members of society through SpeedForNeed! Men I just don’t know how to emphasize YHC heartfelt gratitude for you all jumping in head first with YHC in this adventure!
The Thang:
Here’s what YHC remembered …what a whirl wind…. We are gathered at the tent…17:30 time to get the Track commanders in the chariots….the Primary drivers of each Chariot load the commanders in! Gather in front of the YMCA in the street! BOM now while we have everyone! Pray!! Pray that we would be HIS light! That we would Be the difference….that the riders would experience JOY!!! And that we all would be protected from injury! Wow….prayers answered. Let’s go! We head to the starting line and lineup at the start 4 in a row with all the PAX right behind the chariots. At this point as YHC looks at all of YOU …YHC fighting back tears! You had to see it men! From YHC’s perspective looking at ALL of you. What a group of men….doing this on a Saturday night holiday weekend….and you’re all there support these kids….humbled…almost brought YHC to his knees . The image of all of you at the start will FOREVER be etched in YHC mind!
Were off! 2mins prior to the race the course is ours!…YHC runs with Pizza Man and Amy ( she was SO excited ) to start so YHC could see her because YHC knew Pizza Man was going to tear it up and well…YHC just isn’t that fast! Drop back hang with Dolph and Austin! Man Austin was loving it smiling and laughing! Drop back run with Edison and James….the smile on James priceless! Drop back run with T-Square and Mason! Mason looking around….taking it all in chilled and relaxed as he’s on this ride! ….hey YHC can still see Pizza Man….sprint (I know Defib doctors orders no sprinting) YHC only did it once! Only because I couldn’t catch him again! Rinse and repeat the drop back sequence….YHC continued to cut through drop back as much as possible to be able to spend as much time as possible with each Track Commander. As we were heading back YHC could no longer catch Dolph or Pizza Man so I ran through to the end with James and Edison! As YHC got back in line with them YHC notice a PAX about 30 yards or so ahead carrying a flag and yelling to the crowed…” this is James! Cheer for James” well done Norwood! Well done indeed! Run though the finish line!….YHC knew Mason was out there still….run back through the finish an d backwards on the course YHC heard his 2.1 yelling “ Dad your going the wrong way!” As I see Mason coming with the “Girazelle” known as Sargento driving …grab a side ToolTime and we jail break it in through the finish! Gather again with the Pax avaible …and BOM …JRR Tolkien at YHC request prays for the group again.
Then back to the finish line! And watch Mayor, Hushpuppy, Pockets, Roadie, Huckleberry and others finish their 5k’s (PROUD OF YOU MEN! AYE!)….then Bam just as quick as it started its over….some fellowship and stories shared of experiences on the course ….stories of the joy of the riders….wow…the joy of the riders…that’s what it’s all about men …that right their….sharing Joy by doing something for some one that can’t do it for themselves! That’s WHY we are here on this Earth! YHC asked each of the Primary drivers to write a little something….here are their recaps!
The Christmastown 5k was finally here and you could feel the excitement meeting all the Track Commanders at the SFN tent. I had the honor to drive Amy along with some HIMS from F3 Gastonia. There was nothing like the anticipation of having 4 chariots at the start line and wanting to give the Track Commanders the time of their lives through the lights. As we hit the streets of McAdenville, the crowds were priceless. Every supporter we passed cheered louder and louder!! With every cheer and all the lights, we could hear Amy’s excitement in her voice. Every time we heard her excitement we pushed harder. Heading back to the finish line the supporters were chatting Amy, Amy, Amy. With all the Christmas lights and the supporters along the course, my words can’t describe the excitement we saw in Amy as we crossed the finish line!!! I would like to thank Quiche, Defib, and WeeWee for helping me give Amy the time of her life. This was truly one of the most memorable days of my life. Special thanks to Tolkien and ToolTime for giving me this opportunity. I would like to give a shout out to the men of F3, their M’s, and 2.0’s for all the support.
Pizza Man
TClaps ToolTime for pushing this event. Great job brother, honored to be part of it. Tool Time and I went to meet Austin and his parents last week, and yeah it was a little awkward but we had a good conversation and we were set and ready for the 25th. Austin is 6 and has cerebral palsy and can’t talk or walk but he has this little laugh that we heard a couple of times tonight that lets you know he is having fun. We were Team Green and we had a blast. Following a good distance behind Pizza Man we were rolling. The lights were bright and shining and the crowd cheering and shaking their cow bells as we ran by seemed to get Austin excited and he would kick his legs and let out that little laugh. Slaw kept pace with us and offered to push for a while, which I took him up on. As we ran through the neighborhood Austin got excited and somehow managed to throw out one of the side pads from his chair, I told Slaw to keep going as I went back to get it. Seeing Austin kick and laugh was awesome. Honored to be a part of it. It was a great time had by all for sure and look forward to the next one. Thanks to all the Pax for coming out as well. #ISI
Dolph
ToolTime and I met James and his grandfather “Pop Pop” at Holy Angels about 2 weeks before race night. Pop Pop took us on a tour of the facilities and we had an opportunity to hang out with James for a little while. What an awesome little guy. Although he doesn’t communicate verbally, you can tell by his smile and his actions, he is following along. From the moment I met him, I knew race night was going to be special.
On race night, we got James strapped in to his chariot and met in the middle of the street for BOM. Team blue met and made its way to the start line. Team blue consisted of Wheezy, Freight, Ash Pond, Madoff and 2.0s, Norwood, WoJo, Blart, McEnroe, ToolTime, JRR Tolkien and Graham who is my son’s and James’ best friend.
When the race started, team blue set out at a modest pace. As we watched Pizza Man’s and Dolph’s groups pull away, we heard James laughing out loud as the lights passed by. Team blue was amazing, at the beginning of every uphill climb, 2 guys would grab handles on the side of the chariot and help get up the hill. A short way into the race, Norwood, carrying the American flag, pulled about 30 yards in front of our group. Every group of spectators that he passed, he would yell, “This is James, cheer for James!” The whole course was filled with people cheering “GO JAMES!” as we passed. Team blue finished mostly together and met for prayer with the group at the finish line.
This was such an awesome experience. Thank you JRR Tolkien for SpeedForNeed and everything you do. Thank you ToolTime for helping bring Speed For Need to Gaston County. Thank you Pop Pop for sharing James with us. Thank you team blue for sharing this experience with me. I look forward to more SpeedForNeed events in the future.
Edison
I feel honored to be a part of F3 and appreciate the opportunity to push Mason in this special event. We enjoyed meeting the other Speed For Need riders and their families, as well. This was definitely a memorable experience for my family!
F3 GasHouse has been there for me & my family through the good & bad. Thank you guys SO much!

THANK YOU ALL!
Great work today by all PAX. It was an honor to lead you men!
I apologize for the delay but since this was a pseudo CSAUP event the 24 hour backblast rule is a little gray.
Unfortunately my plans to eat at a decent breakfast eatery near Crowder’s Mountain went awry when everywhere decent I checked was closed on Sunday except for McDonald’s. I arrived about ten minutes early and sorted my car out and wondered to myself if anyone would bother to show but I had a good feeling that my hiking partner Stroganoff would and at 0600 hours there he was. The pre-blast had a 0600-0640 breakfast timelime and no one else showed so I wondered how many would actually come for the hike. About 0645 JK2 showed up and ordered some food to go so I knew we would have at least 3.
I pulled out right on time and wondered why Stroganoff wasn’t behind me. I waited and figured he was being a good wingman for JK2. Only later did I learn that someone left their phone in the head and had to go retrieve it.
We pulled into the Linwood access at 0658 and the gates were open and there was the Nantan and his crew waiting to go. Kotter Richard Simmons let me know he was coming since he signed up for a HTL Ruck in 2018. Once he appeared nine PAX got in two clown cars and off we went to the Boulder’s access at Kings Mountain. Defib and I registered our vehicles while everyone hit the head and got organized. Before I could set the tone for “church on the mountain”, Stroganoff ripped JK2 with a quip about his Ron Jeremy mustache. JK2 didn’t know who that was and some others pretended they didn’t either. This was the first of many Ron jokes the rest of the day. I decided we needed to read the “Mile One” verse before we started. GENESIS 2:15 “Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” God intends for us to work and through our efforts we can honor God by fulfilling our purpose to work.
We then headed out on the trail. It was clear and brisk to start. We went up a hill and down a hill and I walked past some signage and kept going. Fortunately the wiser group in the back called to us and said we were heading towards South Carolina so we returned to the sign and made the appropriate adjustment. It could have been a very long day.
We had a good pace and there was lots of fellowship along the way. The group of nine all stayed close together. I learned all about Richard Simmon’s training for the GoRuck in Charlotte next year. He had a 40 lb plate in his ruck which made the rest of feel pretty weak in comparison. He also had a feisty female voice on his phone telling all of us constantly to pick up the pace.
Everyone had on a pack of some sort from Camel-backs to first aid kits and food. Monk, the stoic that he is, only had his thoughts with him and a few snacks in his coat pocket. He had a water bottle that probably held about 3 ounces. Fortunately I had at least half a case so I gladly gave him some of mine later in the day. At every mile we stopped to read another verse of scripture and share a lesson. For the first 3-4 miles we only saw one person…an odd man sitting on a bench who seemingly came out of nowhere. Both Monk and JK2 had foot problems during the hike. Monk later declared that his boots were too small. However between some quality first aid and fresh socks there were no complaints.
On the Ridgeline trail there is an option to climb to King’s Pinnacle. There was a discussion about whether or not to do this but Stroganoff didn’t hesitate and led the way and the others followed. We arrived at the top with the mountain to ourselves. We had a snack break and Stronagoff ate a delicious looking smashed PBJ sandwich. Then Freight tried in vain to get his phone to take our picture by balancing it on a near vertical steep rock face. Suddenly two strangers appeared and Monk asked them to take our photo. When they asked if we would take theirs, I believe Monk said “NO”! It was a pretty well timed joke but of course we took their photo.
From this point of the trail and we were about halfway and we past many hikers coming from Crowders or the Sparrow Springs parking lot. At one point near Sparrow Springs the trail was closed as indicated with about a fifteen foot section of Crime Scene Tape. Someone said, “anybody got a dime? Somebody’s going to have to go back and get a sh%tload of dimes!”
We crossed another road and had a Mayor of Charlotte sighting. She was walking her dog and actually passed us twice on the trail. From this point the elevation increases towards Crowder’s Mountain. Eventually we made it to the Crowder’s Pinnacle where there were what seemed like hundreds of people. After a mosey down the stairs we ended at the Linwood parking lot where we finished with a COT. JK2 drove Defib and me back to the Boulder’s Access and we called it a day.
During the times we stopped for bible verses, Def Leppard could almost always repeat the verse with just a few hints. He is a wise sage and I appreciate his impact on me.
All in all it was a great day with all three F’s on the Mountain. Next time we will start from South Carolina for the whole trail. I don’t think it would add much distance but at least it would resolve the feeling of unfinished business.
Psalm 1 18:6 “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Live without fear and you can be free knowing that your ultimate destination is in heaven.
I appreciate all the F3 brothers that I have crossed paths with over the last several years. The hike was right around the 11 mile mark. I know that Def Leppard thought this was a CSAUP. I can’t argue with that especially since the soreness I experienced this week was ridiculous!
As YHC waited in the gloom in the Schiele parking lot, I began wondering what I would do if no one showed up. I hope that I would actually get through part or all of the planned workout but I’m not sure. Luckily, 4 PAX showed just before the start time so I didn’t have to fight off any urges to head back to the house.
It was cold but not nearly as cold as the previous week so we got after it immediately with some IC warm up:
SSH X 12
Imperial Walkers X 12
Freddy Mercury’s X 12
Mosey to the flag in front of the Museum for the Pledge
The Thang
Mosey up to the parking lot at Grier Middle School for some Stroganoff 5’s:
Bear Crawl across parking lot – 5 Merkins – lunge back to other side (that’s one)
Rinse & Repeat 4 more times for a total of 5 sets. Short Sale was moving through this quickly and actually completed 6 sets in the same time YHC completed 5…..kudos.
Mosey to the steps at First Presbyterian Church for the Viking 1000. The night before I had posted some pre-blast pics on Twitter depicting Agent P (from Phenias & Ferb) and a Viking image. The plan was to wear my Agent P shirt and ‘Viking’ winter hat from the Warrior Dash several years ago (which I had never actually put on). Earlier in the morning I discovered my giant head was more than the hat could handle so I improvised to call this next exercise the Viking 1000.
Partner up for some cumulative rep work:
Partner 1 does the exercise while Partner 2 runs to the top of the steps, performs 5 merkins and returns. This continues until all the reps of each exercise are completed between the two (or one group of 3):
Flutter Kicks X 200
Mountain Climbers X 200
Freddy Mercurys X 200
Plank Jacks X 200
LBC’s X 200
1000 reps total per goup
This was working out well as we were right on schedule.
Mosey back to the track at Grier Middle. No Stroganoff Q at Gashouse would be complete without a round of the Wolfpack Grinder.
Squats IC X 10 – Run 1/2 Lap – 20 Merkins – Plank for the 6
Squats IC X 10 – Run 1/2 Lap – 30 Mountain Climbers – Plank for the 6
Squats IC X 10 – Run 1/2 Lap – 20 Merkins – Plank for the 6
Squats IC X 10 – Run 1/2 Lap – 30 Mountain Climbers – Plank for the 6
Squats IC X 15 – Run 1/2 Lap – 15 Merkins – Run 1/2 Lap – 30 Mountain Climbers – Plank for the 6
This was really enjoyed and celebrated by the PAX…….
Mosey back to the Schiele for some quick Mary:
The First Presbyterian bells rang during our set of Flutter Kicks somewhere in the 20’s on our reps.
Great work men.
The Moleskin
Even though the numbers were fewer than normal (maybe the smallest crowd I’ve personally seen at Gashouse), the quality of the work put in was extremely good. These 4 guys pushed me today to put in the work and made it worth my time.
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to lead this morning.
So we are going to have church on the mountain this week so get your hiking boots on and come clear your mind on the mountain. We will hike from Kings Mountain to Crowder’s Mountain. Everyone has their own pace so you should plan on getting a partner or group of partners who will walk your pace. You will need a partner to carpool back and forth from the parking areas. It should also be someone who will walk your pace. This is cafeteria style so you can choose what you want.
Menu: Optional start for breakfast- meet at Trackside Grill located at 109 E Hudson Blvd, Gastonia, NC at 0600 for a hearty breakfast. From Trackside we will leave at 0645 to get to the parking lots. If you don’t want breakfast, be at your State Park parking area at 0700 when the park opens.
Parking: . Head to Linwood Parking area. Be there at 0700 when park opens and leave cars and then proceed to the Boulder access area.
***If you want to cut your hike short, you should drop your car Sparrow Springs access at 522 Park Office Ln, Kings Mountain, NC area with your wingman. This will cut the hike basically in half (approximately 6 miles or 3 hours)
No matter where you park, you should clown car over to the Boulder’s Access Area at 108 Van Dyke Road. When you get there, fill out the required forms for the Ridgeline Trail hike and grab a park map. I have found decent cell coverage at Crowder’s to include MapMyRun. You may consider a mobile charger since cooler weather may drain your cell batteries.
0730: Operations/Safety Briefing by Roscoe and quick 3rd F. Prep your gear and get ready.
Merge with Crowder’s Trail (This is near the Sparrow Springs access so for those that choose the shorter route you can head to your cars here)
Decision Point… Choose either Rocktop Trail or Crowder’s Trail.
Rocktop is shorter but more strenuous and Crowder’s Trail is longer and less strenuous.
The Rocktop trail takes you to the Overlook at Crowder’s near the Radio Towers. The Crowder’s Trail connects you to the Backside trail which ends at the Linwood Parking area.
End at Linwood Parking area and clown car back to Boulders Access at 108 Van Dyke Road.
What to bring: Comfortable shoes or boots with good traction in wet weather. It appears that we will get rain Saturday night. The rocks are slippery. Bring water and quality snacks or lunch. Charging device for phone if you wish. If you want to add difficulty to the hike, put a sandbag or weight in your pack. Bring a first aid kit. Bring a shovel flag. Bring a change of socks. Dress in layers with a waterproof outer layer. Sleeves are optional. HAVE YOUR CAR KEYS AT ALL TIMES. We don’t want PAX stranded because they can’t find their keys. Wear F3 gear. You never know how many people we can EH on the trail.
They say you can average 2 mph and we are looking to cover about 12-13 miles. We should be done by 2 or 3pm but it depends on your pace. Plan accordingly.
I am sure I left something out so DM me or comment with your suggestions.
So the pre-blast said that the high temps should be in the high 40’s. It was supposed to be 49 to be exact. Instead it was 43 degrees with constant rain and yet 52 showed up for F3 Dads at Martha’s House! The PAX began showing up and the kids kept coming in with footballs, soccer balls, volleyballs, and lots of snacks and beverages. Whoopee brought a gallon of chocolate milk and lots of waters. Hush Puppy brought the S’more’s bar with a bag of charcoal and some organic lighter fluid. Who knew there would be such a thing as organic lighter fluid? It was definitely not as potent as the lighter fluid of old. It was very slow to burn. I poured some directly on an open flame and it didn’t do anything. Amazing.
Guts brought his double burner propane stove with two of my pots and three gallons of water for the hot chocolate bar. Little did we know how popular the hot chocolate bar would prove to be.
After some goofing off and socializing we circled up for a disclaimer and warm up. However the warm up couldn’t start until a certain unnamed PAX went back under the dry shelter to put on gloves or something while the rest of us stood still and got wet. However it was all worth it as Whoopee came across the center of the circle and accidentally tripped (actually a highly executed stunt fall for the kids) and really sold it including landing on his face with his arms behind him. Classic Whoopee move that I haven’t seen since a certain cold and rainy day at the Grier Track when he went face first into a deep puddle. If you saw the Ric Flair 30 for 30 this week the Nature Boy does a similar move in the ring. The warm up included Moroccan nightclubs, squats, Merkins, and then some Flutter Kicks which were popular because everyone had to get on their six in the cold, wet grass. I had asked for some help to Q the workout and several #HIMS stepped up to let me know they were ready to lead. Defib suggested we split the 2.0’s into age groups since we had such a large number. Defib and Gastone took the older kids and Freight and Hush Puppy led the younger ones. YHC and Rudolph also took a turn leading the youngsters but the point is that the Gashouse PAX are always ready to step up. I heard from my older 2.0 that their workout was fun and included wheelbarrows, Bear crawls, step ups, derkins, LBC’s, WW2 Situps, and some game involving holding a ball between your legs and running. The younger group of PAX did a variety of exercises like relay races, follow the leader, partner squats, Duck, Duck, Goose planking game, and irkins and dips. Hush Puppy showed some mad skills like someone out of Sesame Street leading a rhyming/movement game that involved a lot of burpee jumping type moves with an ever increasing speed. Sort of felt like a combination of a kid’s game and football drills.
After a solid kid friendly beat down, it was apparent that most kids couldn’t feel their fingers due to the relentless cold rain. It was time to head to picnic shelter #1. We gathered round the flag for a group photo and then had to do it again because Monk was MIA the first time. After the pics many 2.0’s gathered around the charcoal grill to try to get warmed up. Guts had fired up the double burner and we got the water heated quickly. Whoopee, Guts, Time Frame, and YHC started a hot chocolate system of production that would make any assembly line supervisor proud. We had a consistent line of customers for about ten minutes and had to keep adding water. In the meantime Hush Puppy had the S’more’s bar rocking and kids started appearing with the chocolate face. When it was apparent that we needed to wrap this thing up before the hypothermia set in, it was time for a count off and name the new kids.
We counted off about 48 but Rudolph and his 2.0 and M were just leaving along with Pockets so 52 is the number which totally exceeded expectations considering what felt like a Nor’easter blowing in. It was time for a quick lesson in F3 and explanation to the kids about why F3 is important. It was great meeting a few M’s that came out as well! The name-o-rama was age appropriate without a lot of the usual doozies that so many of our Q’s like to dish out. They were…Tiny Dancer, Oingo Boingo, Luigi, Cowgirl, Little Caesar, Cap’n Crunch, Flipper, Monet, Swish, Jungle Gym, Smash, Hershey, DMC, Spike, Quidditch, Handspring, and Cheeks.
We closed with a Ball of Kids, prayer, and then the pledge of allegiance. We are all praying for Brownstreak who lost his father this week.
Announcement:
Remember that a week from today (November 19th) we will hike the 13 miles from Kings Mountain to Crowder’s Mountain. I will have a pre-blast later this week but prepare to meet early for breakfast and coffee before parking at the Linwood Parking lot and dropping off a car before heading to the start point at the Boulders Access in Kings Mountain. If you have ever seen Mountain Men on TV you know that you can’t brave the wild without a huge breakfast. You will need a partner to stay with for the hike since some will be faster than others. I got a hard commit yesterday from a Kotter so hopefully this will be a memorable event. Get a partner and show up!
Moleskin: I apologize for missing some of the PAX that posted. Since there were frozen children we skipped recording the names of the younger PAX who already had names. It is possible I missed a regular adult PAX too so sorry in advance. If I left you out hit me up so I can include you. I want to thank all the PAX that attended and helped by bringing good things to share. Don’t ever be intimidated to step up and lead because the PAX are always there to help. All I had to do was set the date and reserve the picnic shelter and the rest happens. I took my phone out to take a few pictures during the workout and saw Short Sale with a professional camera already taking them. This group of men enriches my life and I am sure that is true for all of those that showed up today. When we are good physically and mentally we are better leaders in our homes and communities. Thanks for the opportunity!
6 men gathered in the cold at Gashouse on Saturday to put in some work. Not being used to the cold yet it was hard to get out there. Obviously it was harder for those that didn’t post. We missed you! Upon the request of the Weasel Shaker I made a Christmas theme workout just to poke at Whoppee as we approach the Christmas Party. I think he went to Folsom so this BB is the poke.

Announcement
Christmas Party 12/1. I will be hitting various morning workouts this week to collect HC’s. Convergence 12/2 at Gashouse bring your OST items for boys and girls club. Advisory meeting Sunday 11/12 6:30 at Cavendish.
It’s O-dark 30 and YHC was raring to go, but startex was nearly 2 hours away. What should he do? Start on the Backblast! After pumping full of vitamins, coffee, and peanut butter I began pre-planning my post-workout activities.
What will we do?
Warmup: Imperial walkers, Low-slow squats, Moroccan night clubs, and plank merkins, then on the 6 for Flutters.
Say the pledge: (forgot at the start, but finished strong with it)
Tha thang: Mosey to 321 and up to Main ave for some Light post zombie walks. Lunge to each light post, then do a burpee! We will repeat this until Hushpuppy is no longer cold or until we reach the traffic light. We ended up going 2 blocks with this, with Block 1 being burpees and block 2 being squats.
Then Mosey down to Franklin and up to the church. 11’s on the church steps, up one side and down the other. Squats on one side, Irkins on the other, Due to “wanderers around the pavilion and our cars we stayed close by and ended up doing this across the pavilion steps. Of course, when the train passed we did 5 burpees oyo.
Mosey down the street towards Franklin and NUR back up. Back to the pavilion for some Rocky Balboas, run down the hill, Nur back up for some Dirkins called by Spider-man. Mosey down the hill, do some step ups on the benches, then NUR back up to finish out with some Mary. 10 men, 10 reps of an exercise. sounds simple right? Get to Stroganoff and he calls 30 flutters, eliminating all the time we had for the remainder. Q Jacking in progress.
Sad that I started on the Back Blast 2 hours before the workout and it still took me 3 days to post it!
