Snowbird

Good turnout this am-disclaimer, warmup then head to the short wall for some step ups then on to the thang at the bank-today it was gonna be Walls of Jericho. I went to the Snowbird Wilderness Outfitter BE STRONG men’s retreat this past weekend. I had heard about it before but finally was able to make it work-highly recommend you try to go. Look it up or as Sparky, Freight, Medicine Woman, and probably a few other Folsom regulars who may have gone or heard about it. We learned about Joshua and part of the discussion covered the story about the walls of Jericho so that was our thang today.

7 exercises with 7 reps each then mosey around the bank X 7 rounds. I tried to help teach the “how to count” thing to Fountainhead but he wasn’t having any of it. He came up with his own method and did just fine. At some point he will likely Q a workout and will survive I am sure.

Here are our 7 exercises: Merkins, Squats, Big Boys, Imperial Walkers, Mountain Climbers, LBCs, then…….(drumroll please)…….Jillian Michaels. The JM’s were a definite crowd pleaser. We got thru it, hit some more step ups, then finished with the COT. Along the way Roscoe entertained us with random info on Jillian Michaels and various appropriate and inappropriate jokes. I tried to give some background on what I learned this weekend about Joshua and suggest you read about Joshua when you have some time. Key words to focus on are obey and courage.

**HONORABLE MENTION: Watt’s Up posted with a bum knee, stayed the whole time and did his own thing in the parking lot at Pelican’s. What a great example-don’t let what you CANNOT do interfere what you CAN do.

thanks for the opportunity to lead-Whoopee

Bubba Sparx needed a Q and thankfully I could make it work out. We had a great crowd today-some newish faces for me and a few old ones. Watts Up kept me on track-we started maybe 10 seconds into 0530 and that was 5 seconds after he let me know it was time.

We started with disclaimer, Pledge and a quick warmup……then the fun started. We moseyed to one of the corners at the Goat for some 4 corners. As most of you know, the Goat has only 3 “corners” however that has no real bearing on my plan and was of little consequence despite being a truth. We got to the corner and instructions were given: 4 corners, mosey between corners, at corner 1 do 10 Mike Tysons, corner 2 do 20 Squats, corner 3 do 30 Merkins, and corner 4 do 40 LBCs. Before starting the exercise, at each corner give me 20 SSH. At the suggestion of Watts Up, we will stack the exercises as we go which was NOT actually part of my original plan but sounded good. After the first corner or 2, I realized the counting was getting in the way of mumble chatter. Change of plans: keep same plan but nobody needs to count except me. I made sure we did EXACTLY the right number of exercises before moving on to the next exercise. This was a crowd pleaser for sure. We got our 4 corners in then moseyed a bit to the Maybelline Tunnel of Love: the best place for dirty hookups and hip slappers. We did 3 rounds of each of these X 10 with some wall sits to help us recover between sets. I almost remembered a good dad joke during the hip slappers…..but after a few seconds I forgot so we kept going.

We walked over to a parking lot to recover and got some info about Concentrica. It’s been awhile since I reviewed it, but we discussed and got the point across (M, 2.0s, Shieldlock, Whetstone/F3 brothers, Mammon/work) with a brief discussion about this concept with some input from the silverbacks in the group. Look it up on the interwebs if this is new to you. It’s definitely worth your time.

Mosey back to the bridge at Goat Island to make sure the lock works-yup, it’s locked…..change of plans, keep moseying to bottom of hill by corners 2 and 3 for a modified bridge crawl-We bear crawled up the hill then moseyed back. We then lunged up the hill for a nearly final push. We still had some time so we nurred  and moseyed around the 3 sided square with a few SSH mixed in then cruised on in for some Mary in the last 5 minutes finishing up with some burpees compliments of Orangeman.

I really enjoyed this morning. It’s great to get back out to some of the AOs that I have not been to in awhile. It reminded me of back in the day when we were planting new AOs and trying new places. Posting was more about growing the region instead of getting myself in better shape or counting posts to reach a particular number. Sure those things were important and still part of the intention, but planting a new AO and trying to establish a routine with some regular “locals” was really exciting to see as it actually happened. This morning I smiled when I moseyed past the wall we had to repaint (thanks Bandit) from doing Donkey Kicks-that story never gets old but I kept that to myself this am and just smiled to myself thinking about it. I don’t think most guys realize how much fun it was when this thing started. It wasn’t our idea or plan so we can’t really take credit for anything except listening to what the other regions told us to do and putting in some effort to keep posting. We were having so much fun, I am not sure anyone thought it was complicated. We were just really sore for a long time because we kept finding new ways to hurt each other, and we had fun doing it.

Anyway, thanks to all the guys in our region, new and old, for keeping this thing going. Although I disagree with some of you (whether you know it or not) on some or a lot of what is said or done, in the end I respect most of you (maybe not so much Freight and a few others), and I appreciate the fact that we have enough guys for a solid beat down just about any day I can drag my butt out of bed.

We also learned about Apogee….#STK. Thanks Orangeman.

Thanks BS for asking me to Q, happy to return whenever you ask. One last thing: If you haven’t brought an FNG in the last 6 months, get on it. This engine doesn’t support itself. You need FNGs to keep the system functioning and if you don’t bring them in, you will be stuck with old guys like Tesla forever…..

Sherwood Lightning

I’ve been wanting to do the Lightning workout for awhile so when ShortSale was looking for a Q at GasHouse, this seemed like the right time. I thought I could poke the bear a little by issuing a challenge/bet the night before however nobody took the bait. I was willing to buy breakfast for anyone that wanted to wager a bet on beating me. A newish white pickup truck pulled in a few minutes early and Voodoo and I thought it might be Round Up. I looked at Voodoo and told him that I would be buying at least 1 PAX breakfast this am-no chance for me to beat him. Let’s just say I was not disappointed to see Mayor step out of the truck for more than 1 reason.

0700 rolled around and we did a quick warmup, disclaimer, and then I ‘splained the Lightning workout. I even brought some cardboard signs with written out instructions as I knew I would confuse things. Four of us took off for the Sherwood track. The Lightning workout is no joke. As Wirenut said the night before, this was a heart busting cardio workout. It was still a “You vs You” but knowing the time will likely be posted at some point, I was pushing myself while trying to keep up with JJ. We got through it and realized we still had about 30 minutes to go. Dang, should have gone slower. We kept pushing but it was not the same intensity, at least not for me. We eventually moseyed back home for COT with the PainLabbers.

Good work this am guys. I’m gonna try to do this again real soon, probably as EC.

A few of us went for some sammiches at CDA. Unfortunately JJ was not able to cash in on his free breakfast-I’ll get him another day. Coffeeteeria was a good turnout also. I was reminded of the impact this can have so if you are able, try to make it happen. The workouts are important, but sometimes we need more than that due to things going on in our lives. On a separate but related note, maybe CDA is not the best Coffeeteeria…..the runny bunnies were strong this am in at least 2 houses by 10 am.

highjacked

Stroganoff reminded me I have the Q this week on Friday-check! I’m on it-thanks for the accountability.

Breaker Breaker texted me the night before about riding bikes-check! I’m in-thanks for the accountability.

Show up, no shoes but I’m a few minutes early and BB gives me some time to get home quickly and we are off at 0542. Back in time for Roscoe to handle the announcements, prayer, and namorama. Hmmmm, someone is possibly mistaken about the schedule but I’m gonna roll with it.

We get inside, small talk, then Roscoe jumps in and starts to lead the discussion then all hell breaks loose. Stroganoff, the site Q tells him to shut up and sit down because it’s Whoopee’s Q. Well Roscoe doesn’t take that well and throws his M’s coffee on Stroganoff who ducks and the coffee goes all over ShortSale who has only slept about 2 hours since he went to the Brittany Spears concert last night and didn’t get enough sleep. Well ShortSale just couldn’t handle this and jumps off the table and lands on top of Roscoe then Flintstone tries to break it up and ends up tripping and eventually falls on top of the barista, and in the process touches a part of her body he shouldn’t then we get thrown out. Next week, Coconut Horse will be at Publix-come join us.

Discipline

6 for the coconut-a few runners and a few ruckers. Kudos for Flintstone posting after the Time Laps 24 hour race but to be honest, I don’t think any of us were really surprised to see him there. Great discussion after about Discipline during Q Source. Good work men.

Big crowd this am at the Sandlot. Cooler than expected. Now that I am almost in my mid-50’s, my bones are a bit more sensitive the cooler weather. Guess I’ll have to start wearing some joggers, maybe a sweater, and a headband whenever it’s under 80 degrees….

0530 hit so we started with the pledge, disclaimer, and quick warmup. Mosey across the street for some step ups and derkins, mosey to Gastone’s hill with some Merkins at each light on the way. Up Gastone’s hill with 10 mountain climbers at each mailbox on the right then quick discussion about Flintstone’s Slack message about the Charlotte marathon-dang, why do I feel like posts like that are talking directly to me???? I hate running, well at least I hate running when I am not in running shape. I like being in shape from running frequently. And I don’t really mind running when I am in shape….but I don’t really enjoy….scratch that, I really hate getting into running shape. So I may have responded to Flintstone with a commitment to “consider the marathon. I’ll see how the running more frequently goes.” and “I’ll give it a shot” as far as the training goes. I know it will be good for me, but a marathon???? Hey Flintstone, if you are reading this, you can pound sand.

We went back down the hill then had time for another trip with a couple Merkins at each mailbox. Mosey to bottom then back towards start. Was looking for a wall but due to construction at the defunct bank, all we could find was the wall at Pelican’s. Not really interested in painting a wall so we skipped the slappers and did some wall sits alternating with dirty hookups a few times then finished with Mike Tysons. Had a few minutes left so quick round of Mary then called it a day.

We finished with COT.

PS-Hey Flintstone, you can still pound sand.

8 corners is too much

I knew I wouldn’t want to post this am. I knew I was going to be tired and blah blah blah so I sent Maybelline a request to give me the Q. His response was to give me the Q but raise me some EC….OK, I’m in. Step ups started at 0500-ish then the PAX started rolling in. Roscoe was there early also with some rucking before Maybelline and I even started the EC.

Pledge, WU, then start into it with 8 corners: just like 4 corners but more. Initial plan was to stack the exercises however that changed quickly. 5 burpees at C1, same plus 10 Mike Tysons at C2, same plus 15 Big Boys at C3, and same plus 40 SSH at C4. Somewhere along the line I realized this was not going to end well. In retrospect, everyone was really quiet while we did the first few exercises. I think everyone (except me) realized this was going to suck big donkey balls. We Omaha’d for the rest. The next round of corners was 25 Merkins that went down in number by 5 for each corner plus 30 squats then 35 imperial walkers, then a bunch of flutter kicks at the other corners.

Mosey to the bank parking lot for hops on the short side and lunges on the long sides of the lot. Before we started, Amazon noticed a flat mouse by the dumpster that was probably a few days old, likely crushed by a trash truck. We finished this then moseyed around to the cameras at the drive thru bank area for some wall sits, dirty hookups, and hip slappers. There may have been an exercise that resembled “balls in your camera face” at one point, but I couldn’t say for sure.

Next we moseyed to the Planet Fitness parking lot. Quick question for Tricycle: lines or cars? Thankfully he chose cars. We did suicides in the lot down each lane with each of the cars on that specific lane. I don’t remember what we did but it was a good combination of constant motion, moderate but consistent work, and good advertising for the dues-paying Planet Fitness peeps who came out while we were pushing rocks.

I think we moseyed back to start and finished with squats until Roscoe came back. The initial plan was continue until Roscoe said something but Defib ruined everything……#shouldhavebeenthere

We finished with COT then Tricycle took us out.

I have learned over the last 25 years of being at F3 in GasHouse (yes, 25 years!!!!) that the best way to make sure I post is to put something out on Slack that I will be there-whether that is being the Q or just that I’ll meet someone at a particular AO. I’ve realized I can let myself down, but I’ll do just about anything to avoid letting one of you down. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to hear guys like Freight give me a hard time about not doing what I said or maybe I just don’t want to get “that look” from one of my Shieldlock guys, or maybe I just don’t want to have an F3 brother think I am not there for him. All I know is this works and I appreciate each one of you….well, maybe some more than others and most of the time Freight. Thanks for keeping this thing going in GasHouse.

George Strait Rules

Bootcampers were low numbers but high quality. We were outnumbered by the Painlabbers but that is a good thing. They had a good showing.

We started with a WU that was actually longer than I usually do. I was not really feeling the F3 vibes this morning-reeeeaaaaallllllly wanted to fartsack this am but thankfully I was the Q and didn’t have the option. No flag when we started but Tube came rolling in with the flag during the WU then jumped right in. Quick disclaimer for the veterans just to be complete then we split off from Painlabbers.

4 corners in the lot to slowly ramp up from the WU: 5 Merkins at C1, same and add 10 SSH IC (thanks Strogi) at C2, same and add 15 Monkey Humpers at C3, same and add 20 Imperial Walkers at C4 then mosey to the library no parking zone up front. Partner up: P1 does exercise AMRAP while P2 hops across the no parking zone and then moseys back to start then swapparoo. Exercises were as follows: Mike Tyson, Squat, BigBoy setups, Monkey Humpers, and Merkins. No rest-mosey to pharmacy parking lot and this is when the fun started with some GOOD MUSIC from my Spotify playlist-just for the record, everyone loved my music, especially one pax that will go unnamed but kinda rhymes with rogan-cough. Some might describe it as “enamored” with how he felt about the music. At the parking lot at the pharmacy we did 11’s with flutter kicks and jump squats. Keep rolling-mosey to the football field…….son of a nutcracker, the gate is locked so we moseyed out to the lot in front of the school after hitting the wall on the way with some hip slappers because of someone’s smart allecky comment that may or may not have been related to the music…..keep rolling to do some Bojangles Biscuits X 2 (run the strait then mosey the turns-anyone catch that pun??? does anyone even read this??? beuler??? beuler???? do I really care because I am enjoying it anyway!!!) in the lot. After the Bojangles we moseyed to other side of the lot for a triple nickel with an occasional splash in the puddle-Monkey Humpers and Mtn Climbers. Weinke was on empty but still had about 15 minutes….dang, there’s a wall and at some point wanted to throw in some Dirty Hookups so we did some Hip Slappers, Wall Sits, and Dirty Hookups while listening to a little Guns and Roses (I Used to Lover Her) as well as the O’jays (Use ta Be My Girl) which really didn’t get much reaction at this point. Suspect they were missing the George Strait but didn’t want to tell me. We lunged back across the lot, moseyed down the hill, then hit the wall for some Donkey Kicks, Hip Slappers, and Dirty Hookups. We moseyed back to start for a quickie with Mary.

Let the record reflect that we enjoyed my Spotify favorite songs this morning. All of us enjoyed the songs. Even Stroganoff. I think I heard him say something like “this is waaaayyyyyy better than Rush.” After the workout he asked for my Spotify password so he could just log on or connect or whatever it is you do to get into my Spotify account that way he could just listen to my favorite playlist. That would be illegal so I did not do it just for the record.

We finished with COT with some prayers and praises. It was another really good morning.

I almost forgot, Rush sucks.

Manslaughter Bunnies

Slack (our communication platform thing) is great. I mean, how else can you put out a message to a big pile of boneheads that makes you accountable for what seemed like a good idea at some point in time and entices other boneheads to respond and then also be accountable for emotional comments and responses? Ever since my Q vs Q loss, I have been looking forward to leading a workout and really trying to push myself a bit harder. There really is no better way to do this than to sign up to Q a workout AND poke some of the guys in Folsom to see if they will show. I tried poking the guy with the pretty hair and low rent jewelry from last year but no luck-he likely was working so he gets a pass. Either way, the motivation to bring some pain was there and fortunately a few HIMs made the trip from Folsom-thanks Westside, Balljoint, and Gearwrench. Last night was like many nights during the first few years of F3Gashouse-I went to bed sort of early but could not fall asleep because I was excited about the workout in the morning (hope I am not the only one that does this???!!!)…..once I fell asleep multiple things woke me during the night……dog needed to pee at 1 am, dog needed water at 120 am, wife got up to check on dog at 130 am, heartburn hit me at 215 am (but the sausage/pepperoni/pasta thing was sooooo good last night and worth it), cat wanted to hang out at around 3 am, heartburn still bothering me at 330 am, alarm went off at 430 am. Aaaawwwww heck, I told Maybelline I would go for some EC by mistake (thought I was responding to Balljoint’s HC for this am but responded to Maybelline’s EC call-old man technology fail) so I gotta get up. I got rolling and made it through the rain on time and went for a partial EC with Maybelline-wanted to walk around the AO and finalize a few things so I did partial EC with him then broke off early for some strategery and planning. Then the PAX arrived and we got started.

Pledge, Warmup, Disclaimer then we were off. We moseyed over to the basketball court-be careful and get over that wire/chain from the parking lot. Gonna start with 4 corners: stack the exercises with 5 burpees first corner, repeat at corner 2 and add 10 Mike Tysons (where were you Sister Act???!!!), repeat at corner 3 and add 15 Big Boys, repeat at corner 4 and add 40 SSA. Keep rolling……mosey to the parking lot for Suicides: cones set up at 4-5 spaces apart: Merkin at the start, 5 Bonnie Blairs at each cone-think there were 5 cones. Next we did some Donkey Kicks on the wall-was not tall enough for hip slappers in that area and didn’t want to muddy up the wall where there was room, that’s ok. Donkey Kicks are good enough at this point. Mosey back to basketball court for some new exercises: Bearby (not Bobby) Hurleys: start on the baseline under the basket, bear crawl to foul line, 5 Bobby Hurleys, bear crawl back. Repeat out to the 3 point line for 5 more Bobby Hurleys then bear crawl back. There was some chatter about some dude named Tesla but I can’t remember what it was. I was focused on the next (new) exercise. Remember those Murder Bunnies? Well I wanted something like that but no blocks around so we went with something not quite as bad……or was it? Manslaughter Bunnies-Same thing but no block. It’s basically a bear crawl with both hands moving forward at the same time. In my opinion, that sucked big balls. Murder Bunnies suck too, but at least you don’t have to bend over as far which, at almost 53 years old, has gotten harder to do lately. We did this all the way across the court-seemed like at least 3 miles of Manslaughter Bunnies but it was really likely not more that 2 miles…..enough of that BS, mosey back to the parking lot (again, make sure to step over that cable thing). Next was 11’s with Big Boys and Merkins. Balljoint then asked “What are we doing in the middle?” so we added a burpee every time you cross center line. I was out of tricks and had used up my Weinke so we did another 4 corners in the big parking lot with jump squats X 10, heels to heaven X 10, diamond merkins X 10, and LBCs X 40. Is it time yet???? NOPE, keep moving-back to end of lot for suicides with 5 squats at each cone every time you pass coming and going with a burpee and 5 SSH every time at the start. This finally got us to time and we called it quits.

COT with prayers and praises-Westside with some good news about a friend at church going thru some $hit but making progress with improvement. Having gone thru some different $hit in the past, I mentioned that it really helps the person going thru that $hit when someone lets you know they are praying for you (which Westside is doing and has told his friend this as well). I don’t always remember this so it was a good reminder for me-having someone pray for you and telling you they are doing it definitely gives you a little more motivation. Try to keep this in mind because I can tell you from personal experience, this is a big deal.

Thanks again for posting this am-Whoopee

who da Q?

big crowd this am for rucking, we took off towards the neighborhood and did a quick loop then back to Publix for couple laps until time. As always, good fellowship without heavy breathing and still got some work done. I could get used to this schedule-I am currently on spring break for a stay-cation so the stress level is extremely low at this point. That changes next week. It’s been nice not realizing what day of the week it is other than where I will be posting.

BTW, According to TeamUp, Tube was the Q and he was not here. I am sure there is a penalty for this but I cannot recall what it is. Maybe wear a dress next time he posts?
