The Sloshing Yank

The convergence of the Pushing Rocks Challenge AND an infamous Buckshot Q at The Fighting Yank?! You already know it was going to be ON. Too bad Roscoe was too afraid of getting a little messy. On to the thang.

Rowdy and good sized crowd showed (cause they already know’d) and somehow Tesla even convinced an FNG to come out! Probably paid him. Still waiting for my check to clear though apparently…

  • Mosey to pavilion and do some warm-uppy things. Orangeman was insistent that we do actual exercises…You vs. You, but we made sure.
  • Mosey to picnic shelter up the hill a bit for a little Dora 123. Merkins, Squats, LBCs. Run down some tricky stairs to the fountain and back up.
  • Mosey to the swamp…I mean, the field up top, and then it was time to rock and roll.

ANGLEBALL!

  • Watts Up & Goose selected teams…1 surprise: Mama’s Boy was NOT the first pick. 1 non-surprise: Tesla was the last pick.
  • Teams appeared pretty even, but that was not to be the case. Goose’s team ended up winning 5-2, in what was a lot of laughter, a lot of mud, and the perfect intersection of fitness and fellowship.
  • Whenever a team scored, the opposing team had to do a called exercise of up to 10 reps. Went like this:
    • Team Goose 1-0: 10x SSH in cadence
    • Team Watts Up 1-1: 10x Seal jacks in cadence
    • Team Goose 2-1: 10 merkins
    • Team Goose 3-1: 10x LBCs in cadence
    • Team Goose 4-1: 10x Calf Raises…but Orangeman did Heels to Heaven.
    • Team Goose 5-1: 9x Burpees
    • Team Watts Up 5-2: 5x Fox Holes…cause Orangeman was embarrassed and mad.

After all of that nonsense, we circled up for a great end to the morning.

Prayer Requests:

  • Gavel and family (father’s memorial service is today)
  • Jane Fonda’s move back into his house
  • Anchorman
  • Turtleman
  • Huckleberry
  • Guys on IR
  • Other guy on “IR”…
  • BOS’s mother in law
  • Buckshot’s cousin, recently diagnosed with breast cancer

Announcements:

  • 4/20 – Extinction Run…tons of things and information coming out about that, including raffle for a ruck sack and a new Mudgear shirt for the event
  • 4/13 – Community Foundation Run 5k
  • 5/13 – Young Life Golf Classic

It is always such a pleasure to get to lead you all, probably should do more of it.

Our honor defend, fight to the end…Buckshot

Buckshot Downrange @ F3 Boone

2/8/2024

Region: Boone

AO: Fiddle Camp

Warm Up: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Cotton Pickers(?!), Arm Circles forward & back, Moroccans.

The Workout: Mosey a bit to a parking lot to retrieve some hidden coupons and do some block work. YHC introduced Boone to Mike Tysons though? Ended with a 12 burpee homage to the Q’s daughter on her birthday.

Back to the flag for some Mary and a bunch of merkins.

Some great HIMs up there in Boone, but that air breathes a little differently than ours!

#Team11

The 41st Birthday Q…we don’t bite, just lick.

It was a great morning in Cramerton for a nice birthday beatdown. 11 PAX circle up, including the rare appearance of Spiderman…it was going to be a good morning!

Warm Up: SSH in cadence x41. Cause that’s how old I turned.

The Thang:

  • Mosey down to in front of the drug store, where I lay down the vision for the morning. Most of the time, the best part of F3 isn’t the First F, but rather the Second F. When I tell friends why I keep coming back to something this stupid, I always talk about the camaraderie and the fellowship.
  • So today…we are going to do some Fellowship Fitness! Each (most) light pole on the way up 8th we stopped at, for PAX to take turns calling out an exercise with their rep options being: 8, 17, or 41 reps.
  • We continued that all the way up the hill…but Fannie Mae and Finkle dropped the hammer on us with 41 Gravel Pickers and 41 Big Boys, respectively.
  • At the top of the hill and the light, turned and headed toward Mayflower, and continued the pattern down the road.
  • One stop at the Riverside basketball court, couple stops on the way back toward downtown…including some obligatory hip slappers called by Orangeman under the train tracks.
  • Mosey down the hill to the bridge, over to Goat Island, where in the middle of our “lightning round of 8’s only”, Tesla of course calls Kraken Burpees. That got Orangeman (?) so sauced up, he told a dog that was nervously being walked by us that we don’t bite, we only lick. That was YHC’s cue to get back to the flag as fast as possible.
  • One small stop in the middle of the bridge, then back to COT where we finish up with a circle of Burpees (one each PAX in rotating fashion, as quickly as possible) and some stretches.
  • Time

What a honor it is to lead, what an honor it is to be a part of this group. I’ll say it time and again…and thanks to everyone for getting me to 41. Let’s keep going.

Announcements: read your other backblasts

Prayers:

  • Norwood
  • Turtleman
  • Tiger’s parents
  • Everyone continuing back to school
  • Orangemen’s 2.0 and family are back officially from Colorado, but came with Covid. He hasn’t gotten to visit with them yet, including his granddaughter.

Buckshot, out.

Delayed Flag Day

A month late…but who’s counting?

YHC showed up, with a crowd awaiting him…all the better. Disclaimer, pledge, let’s get to it.

Warm Up: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Gravel Pickers, Moroccan Nightclubs, and then 13 Burpees.

It’s the day after National Flag Day…so we did 13 of those burpees for the 13 original colonies and stripes on the flag. You’ll send a small theme. YHC then handed out flags for each of the Pax to carry with them, that of course cannot touch the ground like the real Old Glory. It touches the ground? 5 burpees on the spot.

Mosey around, across the island, to the far side parking lot.

11’s aren’t good enough, let’s do 13’s for those stripes and colonies again. American Hammers & either Mike Tyson’s or CDD’s. Can’t remember cause it was a month ago… Between your 6 & 7 counts, stop in the middle and do 50 Merkins.

This took longer than expected…so we moseyed to the first bridge, and took turns having Pax call an exercise for the others to do while bear crawl across the bridge and nur back. There was a lot of mumblechatter here…most of it unfit to print. The FNG almost didn’t get a very nice name because of what he called…those young guns and their energy. SMH.

Back to the flag, little bit of Mary, Time.

In case you were wondering…Nutria did drop his flag. And Freon’s infamous headband actually came in useful this morning.

This was one of the bigger crowds we’ve had recently, and man it was a fun group to have the honor of Q-ing. It’s always great in the gloom, no matter what.

Welcome, Mama’s Boy!

Our honor defend… Buckshot.

Dora the Explora

Or maybe it’s more like “Dora tried to explora but was too ambitious and then a train felt disrespected and decided to mess everything up for the QIC”

A chilly but great feeling morning with YHC replacing Pillager in the regular four to post, but let’s get to it!

The Warmup: 15 SSH, 15 Imperial Walkers, 10 burpees OYO

Then we mosey to Ida Ranking

1st Dora: 50 Hand Release Merkins, 100 Big Boys, 150 Squats.

Begin moseying to the parking lot behind Catawba Coffee…while en route, YHC brags that once you do an exercise this morning you won’t have to do it again…including burpees. You can’t make this up…not 10 seconds after that statement, the VERY rare train makes it’s presence known with a far off blast and the PAX pick up the pace so we can make it across the tracks.

2nd Dora: 50 regular Merkins, 100 Lunges, 150 Flutters

That train? Yeah apparently it was the longest and slowest train in the history of trains…or at least Mt. Holly. So we mosey to the parking lot of First United Methodist Church for our 3rd Explora…

3rd Dora: 100 Overhead Claps, 200 LBCs, 300 Mountain Climbers

Train finishes as we finish and time is now creeping up on us…so the PAX head back to Mt. Holly Middle for a little bit of Mary, where Blueprint makes us just roll around on the ground for 2 minutes.

Time.

Prayers: Turtleman, Pillager and his new 2.0, Red Ribbon’s friend (Huffstetler family)

It was great to lead these guys, great to get out to start the week again on the right foot. Even if we didn’t get to finish exploring or dora-ing.

Don’t miss a Buckshot Fighting Yank Q…

A cold, dark morning started off with a surprise, as the field behind the old middle school revealed itself to be quite unusable for our purposes…so at 6:55am I sped off to find a different field for us to set up shop in.

Landed in the random field next to Alexander Memorial Baptist Church, and across from those hideous lofts being built in downtown Belmont. You see, the name of the game this crisp fall morning? Angleball. We needed the space, we found the space.

Thankfully, my other Buck brother, Buckeye, was present to lead the men through some warmups doing something stupid, before coming to find myself, Gavel, and Watts Up as we finished setting up the game. Here’s reason #1 you shouldn’t miss my Fighting Yank Q’s…I saved them from the Stupid Shuffle.

Angleball was played. Gloves are a bad idea. Rebar is worse at shooting.

Reason #2 you shouldn’t miss a Buckshot Fighting Yank Q…as the PAX finished up their game, which unfortunately I couldn’t play in because I had strained my back the day before, I presented them with donuts and coffee.

That’s what I call a COT.

An honor to lead, an honor to be a part…

The Fighting Yank probably played Angleball

Spent most of the week praying for no rain on Saturday morning, and it worked out. Then, we worked out.

YHC got the men moving quickly at 8, to The Bunker for a quick and simple warmup of burpees, LBCs, and merkins. Then we headed to the pavilion. Called a Dora with merkins, big boys, and squats…although the big boys were met with a little resistance. Apparently I woke up feeling dangerous, maybe a little too dangerous…as I ended up switching the big boys to LBCs midstream. The guys kindly acquiesced.

After finishing up we took a mosey up to the football field, where some odd 10 foot poles with tetherballs on top of them greeted us. YHC then introduced all present to age old game of Angleball. Here’s a cheesy video for all of you fartsackers who were afraid of the rain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asS5nEsgasY

Split into two teams of 5 and got to work, with the scoring team having to do 5 burpees, but then getting to call out what the non-scoring team had to do. This ended up escalating from 10 burpees, to 15 CDDs, to 20 big boys, to 10 kraken burpees, to eventually hip slappers on the old BMS wall.

Learned a few things about the HIMs though: Don’t hit CPAP on the head, he goes into rage mode. Doodles can speak things into existence, which was a really bad trait this day. Sweetheart might be Steph Curry in disguise.

Then we moseyed back to the Yank himself to join the men of The Bunker for COT.

Prayers: Unity in our country; Uranus and family (had memorial service for their baby Sadie on Saturday); Sweetheart’s mom received some hard news about her cancer; Tiger’s stepsons.

Praise: Gavel started a new job at the DA’s office quickly and unexpectedly after leaving his old job; Buckshot & family’s rapid recovery from Covid.

As always, it’s an honor to be a part of this group of HIMs, but especially to lead again.

Honor to The Ricky Bobby!

54 degrees and a great morning for my VQ at TRB! As YHC got ready to begin the disclaimer and pledge,  up out of the gloom walked none other than the Bionic-man himself: Cinderella. I already knew it was going to be a good morning to have a great morning.

I gave the disclaimer (I Q from where I want to, Sargento) we did the pledge, we got to work.

25x SSH IC

25x Goofballs IC (honor to the goofball himself, TRB site Q)

5 Burpees OYO.

I couldn’t remember if we had ever run a Dora here before, but I’m a big fan of those so we did the thang.

100 Hand release Merkins

200 IBC (sizzle to honor Buckeye)

300 Sumo Squats (honor to my Japanese heritage)

Run around the bus lot and grassy area in front of the school.

The men crushed it, with only a little complaining about the Sumos, and we headed off to the side of the school for the next bit of greatness.

Triple Nickels from the last light post, back to the crosswalk.

Light post: Crunchy Frogs

Crosswalk: Mike Tysons

After planking for the 6, we lined up along the curb for the next bit of greatness.

The PAX went down the line calling an exercise that the rest of the group would do, while he ran down to the playground and back. While Roscoe started us off with a groan worthy set of 8 count body builders, the rest was a good challenge for all. In some order we did:

  • 8 count body builders
  • Flutter Kicks
  • Diamond Merkins
  • Rosalitas
  • Calf Raises (honor to Dirt!)
  • Monkey Humpers (honor to Tesla!)
  • Dying Cockroaches
  • Freddy Mercury’s
  • Hillbilly Walkers
  • Rocky Balboas
  • Big Boys
  • One other exercise that YHC can’t remember, cause that’s a lot…so if I missed yours leave a comment.

Then we mosey’d back to the flag, and finished with a little stretching.

Announcements: JJ5k (26th), Mt. Mitchell Hike (27th), IPC Week 4 at Gashouse this week, Young Life Golf Classic on Monday Oct. 5 (info to be posted on Slack)

Prayer Requests: Orangeman’s daughter, Cinderella’s recovery, Sargento’s M having full knee replacement, Sargento’s test on Monday, our police and first responders.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead this morning, and keep pushing the rock with you all. It’s an honor to get to do what we do, with a group of HIMs that constantly push me to be not just in better shape physically, but a better husband, father, friend, leader, servant, and steward.

Our honor defend, we will fight to the end… Buckshot.
