Shared Leadership

YHC showed a little before 0600 to get in a few extra miles and Dr. Seuss and Purple Haze decided to join in. Gumby also showed early but since there were no other DBC members riding today, chose to go home for a quick wardrobe change into his running gear. We ran back through the start at 0630 and a total of 8 PAX headed out to log some miles.

Seuss and Pizza Man did their usual “easy” mid 7’s pace, Haze and SA decided to hang back with YHC while Def and Gumby enjoyed a little fellowship on their run. As with most Sundays, Wirenut appeared from the gloom just in time for the COT. Strong work men.

We followed up the run with a QSource discussion on Shared Leadership. If you haven’t been to the discussions at Crossroads or Coconut Horse on Sundays you’re missing out. Come out and join one of these groups next week, I promise you will not regret it.

Modified 1776

15 total PAX made it out to Gashouse this fine morning to put in some work, one of which was a FNG. TClaps to Tube for the EH! After the disclaimer, pledge and warmup, 3 PAX decided to do the Bootcamp and followed YHC up to the track at Grier.

I saw a CSAUP called 1776 that one of the regions did for July 4th and it looked pretty tough. I used that as the basis for the workout this morning and we’ll call it The 400’s. It went like this…..

400 meter run then partner up for 100 cumulative reps of 4 exercises. Rinse and repeat 4 rounds changing partners each round.

Round 1 – HR Merkins, LBC’s, High knees, Seal Jacks

Round 2 – Werkins, Big Boys, Squats, Plank Jacks

Round 3 – Diamond Merkins, American Hammers, Lunges, SSH’s

Round 4 – Ranger Merkins, Flutter Kicks, Butt Kickers, Little Gumby’s

Run a 5th lap after Round 4 and then 100 cumulative Burpee’s between the 4 PAX

We got through this much faster than anticipated due to the 3 bat flippers that were constantly pushing YHC to pick up the pace . Strong work by 3 strong HIM’s!

Since we had a little time left, we headed to the wall of the school for 2 rounds of 1 minute wall sit, 10 Dirty Hookups IC and 10 Hip Slappers IC.

Back to the flag for a couple minutes of ab work with the Painlab guys before time was called.

Romans 12:10 – “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

Candor and constructive criticism are essential to building string relationships, but we need to make sure it comes from a place of love. Praise and admiration are also essential and oftentimes overlooked.

Bearing our burdens

Rumors started the night before that a Kotter and FNG might be making an appearance at the Trucks and Beards AO on Tuesday morning. YHC rolled in early and to my surprise the Kotter was already there…..the one they call “Roadie” had returned to the gloom! It turns out he was the one bringing the FNG who also showed and made it an even 10 for the workout. After a full disclaimer, the pledge and a short warmup we all headed to the back of YHC’s truck to grab bricks that we would carry with us the entire workout. It went like this:

Mosey to the “newer” parking lot by the lake for some ALARM’s. 100 reps of each exercise followed by a lap around the parking lot. All done with bricks.

Arms – Shoulder press

Legs – Squats

Abs – American Hammers

R exercise – Randy’s

M exercise – Merkins

That wasn’t too bad, let’s mosey to the front of the park for some partner work. Dora 1-2-3 with one partner doing the work while the other runs a lap. Again, all work with bricks.

100 – Shoulder taps

200 – Dying cockroaches

300 – Moroccan Nightclubs (these sucked)

Still some time left, so let’s head to the tennis courts for some Merkincides.

5 Burpee’s on the 1st court, then run to the 2nd court for 5 Merkins

Back to the start for 5 Burpee’s each time and increase the Merkins by 5 at each court all the way to the fence.

Time is up so back to the flag.

I had a verse that I had planned to share with the PAX, but changed it up after thinking about what we were doing. The brick’s we used for the workout symbolize the burdens we often carry around with us in life. Some of them are small and seem minor, but the longer we carry them the harder they become to bear. We are called to serve others and in doing so help carry their burdens, but Christ also tells us this in Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

4 Year Anniversary Q

9 solid HIM’s decided to join me in a celebration of my 4 year anniversary of posting with F3. Since Midoriyama is one of my favorite AO’s, it was a perfect opportunity to take the Q and deliver a moderately challenging workout for those who chose to join. All in attendance were regulars so the disclaimer was short, followed by the pledge and a light warmup. Let’s mosey.

Line up on the sideline at the small soccer field for some 40’s.

10 reps of called exercise then run 40 yards and NUR back.

Exercises were Burpee’s, HR Merkins, Big Boys and Heels to Heaven

44 Shoulder Taps, 44 LBC’s, 44 Squats

40’s Round 2

10 reps of called exercise then Karaoke left 40 yards and Karaoke right back.

Exercises were Burpee’s, Diamond Merkins, American Hammers and In & Outs

44 Shoulder Taps, 44 LBC’s, 44 Squats

40’s Round 3

10 reps of called exercise then High Knees 40 yards and Butt Kickers back.

Exercises were Burpee’s, Werkins, V-ups and Flutter Kicks

44 Shoulder Taps, 44 LBC’s, 44 Squats

There was supposed to be a 4th round (as Slaw duly noted and complained about the missed opportunity), but we were already over halfway through the workout and YHC had some other fun filled exercises that the PAX were sure to enjoy.

Mosey back to the Turd Shack at the start for another type of 40’s…Lindsey’s.

Hip Slappers and Wall Jumps – 30/10, 25/15, 20/20, 15/25, 10/30

All the PAX really enjoyed this part and were hopeful of a rinse and repeat, but reluctantly agreed to move to the next set of exercises.

After a short fellowship mosey to the adjacent parking lot we finished up with some Dirty 11’s. Mike Tyson’s on one side, Tiger Squats on the opposite side and a Burpee each time you crossed the island.

NMM / COT

The last four years seem to have flown by and it seems like only yesterday that I posted for the first time at The Yank and then spent the next week uncertain if I would ever again be able to raise my arms above my head. I can’t thank the PAX of Gashouse enough for the impact and difference that they have made in my life, you guys are awesome and I appreciate each and every one of you. I feel like I’ve come a long way since that first post and to see the growth and acceleration by so many other PAX is what motivates me to keep coming out and trying to get better. This F3 thing is here to stay, so let’s do everything we can to continue to grow not only the size of the region, but the HIM’s within it.

Freight’s Bike Club

Memorial Day has passed which means that Freight’s Bike Club has officially started! This is one of the most exclusive clubs in Gaston County and there are very strict guidelines to be eligible for membership. I’m not sure what they are, but I believe one of them is that you must have a bike. If you’re interested please see Freight and he will explain the application and qualification process in more detail.

12 PAX either joined the bike club or got in a run and all ended up better. Wirenut came out of the gym and joined in for QSource.

Gashouse Leadership Meeting 6/13/2021

The next leadership meeting for F3 Gastonia will be held at Lineberger Park on Sunday, June 13th at 4pm. This meeting is for ALL PAX who wish to attend and your SLT will provide updates on the happenings to date and also outline some planned activities for the remainder of the year.

The input of the PAX in our region is critical to our continued growth, so please reach out to me if you have any specific items that you would like to discuss. I’ll do my best to accommodate everyone, but would like to keep the meeting to 1.5 hours max.

If you have the time, plan on hanging around after for some 2nd F. There are plenty of options nearby for food and drink, or you can get in a little EC on the greenway while you’re there.
