I’m Broke

How can I Accelerate?

If you’ve never posted on a Saturday at Folsom, the best way to describe the experience is….entertaining. The mumble chatter is always plentiful, someone is typically being called out for their poor form or inability to properly count reps, the air is ripe with the pungent aroma of multiple PAX expelling the remnants of their last meal, and the workouts will leave you exhausted and ready for the fellowship to follow at the Country Kitchen. This day would prove to be no different as 21 PAX gathered in the newly paved (kinda sorta) parking lot to get the weekend started.

No FNG’s so the quick version of the disclaimer. Imperial Walkers x10IC, SSH’s x10IC and Moroccan Nightclubs while we waited on those coming in hot. Another Folsom fact, someone will always be coming in late (usually Sparky).

Whenever I have the Q, I try to leave the PAX with a thought, verse or other words that they will hopefully be able to take with them and use to become better. The focus of today was Accelerate and at various points during the workout I wanted to offer the PAX ideas of how to accelerate their personal growth.

Point #1 – To accelerate you have to believe in yourself, if you don’t you’re going to struggle. You must believe in where you are going before anyone else can.

Mosey out of the parking lot and head toward the main entrance. Make a stop at the fork in the road for 25 American Hammer’s, 25 Flutter Kick’s and 25 Mountain Climbers all IC. Rinse and repeat when we get to the flag. While we’re here let’s go ahead and get the pledge.

Point #2 – To accelerate ask friends to hold you accountable. These friends need to be part of your inner circle and not afraid to let you know when you’re under performing or changing for the worse. Listen to their feedback.

Let’s mosey across to the parking lot for….The Cooper. 10 Burpee’s, 10 Squats, 10 Merkins then a lap around the parking lot. Next round 9,9,9 and a lap all the way down to 1,1,1. This is a tough routine and Gump was out front making it look easy. SA and Seuss weren’t far behind and I believe most made it all the way through before YHC called time to move on to something else.

Point #3 – To accelerate find a mentor. This should be someone you have a genuine connection with and value spending time with. Both of you must be willing to discuss things that may seem difficult in order for it to work.

Mosey back to the fork in the road and this time, 25 LBC’s IC, 10 Big Boys OYO and 10 Oblique Crunches each side. Head down Sportsman Drive to where the trail splits off and repeat the above. This was about the point where Volt started to question YHC’s choice of locations for ab work. I think he’s fond of the new asphalt, but part of the allure of Folsom is the way you feel during the post workout shower when you realize you have road rash on some unfortunate parts of your body.

Point #4 – To accelerate you must feed your brain. Read books, listen to podcasts, study materials, etc. related to what you are trying to accomplish.

Let’s head to the amphitheatre. PAX choice of route, straight shot or take the long way around the pond and through the parking lot. Partner up and wheelbarrow to the sidewalk where both PAX perform the called exercise, then mosey back to the bottom. Swap places on the wheelbarrow and repeat. 25 SSH first round and 25 Seal Jacks for Round 2.

Point #5 – To accelerate you must learn to appreciate more. Appreciate your loved ones, friends, work, freedoms and all your blessings. Gain positive energy through appreciation.

3 rounds of 10 Dips, 10 Derkins and 20 Rocky Balboa’s then back to the start.

COT/BOM

Whetstone, Q Source, COT’s, etc. are all tools available through F3 to help you accelerate. When you’re accelerating you are changing patterns and habits and it’s going to take time. Give it a chance and push through the difficult times.

Thanks to Montross for reaching out and offering me the chance to Q. Folsom is one of the many great AO’s in our region and the Country Kitchen never disappoints. It was great to see the legendary Huckleberry back out in the gloom this morning, we’ve missed you brother! Tclaps to all the PAX for pushing the rock and helping me to accelerate. The Cooper is probably my least favorite routine and there’s no way I would have called it if I didn’t have you guys continuing to push me to get better.

Through the Storm

Nice crowd at the Storm this morning, 17 PAX clocked in and ready to go to work at 05:30! We started with a short disclaimer, the Pledge and what has become my typical warmup of 5 Burpee’s OYO. Let’s mosey!

First stop is the roundabout in front of the school for a little core work:

25 American Hammer’s IC

10 Big Boy’s OYO

25 LBC’s IC

10 Big Boy’s OYO

25 Flutter Kicks IC

10 Big Boy’s OYO

25 Mountain Climbers IC

10 Big Boy’s OYO

Continue with the mosey around the back of the school for some 10 to 1’s at the loading dock. 10 Merkins at the bottom, jump up on the dock and do 10 Squats. Rinse and repeat with 9 reps, 8….all the way to 1.

Next up was a mosey over to the student parking lot for some partner work. Start in the middle of the lot with 10 Booyah Merkins IC. One partner runs to one end of the lot and does 10 Little Gumby in the Woods while the other partner runs to the opposite end and does 10 Bobby Hurley’s. Meet back in the middle then swap ends. Rinse and repeat all the way to 1.

The PAX are pushing the pace at this point and we’re doing great on time. Let’s grab some wall and do 3 sets of 10 Dirty Hookups and 10 IW Squats. There was a good bit of mumble chatter at this point about whether or not YHC could hear the train or was just ignoring it. I think I actually heard 2 trains, so 10 Burpee’s OYO.

Since we got the core work out of the way at the beginning, YHC wanted to leave some time at the end for a mosey instead of Mary. About 7 minutes of meandering through the parking lots and time is up.

COT/BOM

Through the Storm

We’ve all been through a storm, are currently in one, or will experience one in the near future. We must remember that we aren’t alone, God is with us in the storms of life. He’s there to guide us through and help us repair any damage that the storm may cause. Too often, these are the only times we seek God and ask for his guidance and protection. Remember, we need God through the calm as much as we do in a storm.

Psalm 107:29 – “He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed.”

Perfect weather at the Goat

It was near perfect weather at the Goat this morning and 11 PAX came out to take advantage. Short disclaimer given and then the pledge. Quick warmup of 5 Burpee’s and then off on a mosey.

Stopped at the underpass and did 3 rounds of 10 Hip Slappers IC followed by 20 squats. Continued to mosey down 8th Ave to the basketball courts for some suicides.

Start on the baseline, run to free throw line and do 5 merkins then back for a burpee. Continue in this fashion increasing merkins to 10 at half court, 15 at far free throw line and 20 on opposite baseline. Repeat with Big Boy’s and IW Squats.

Head back to town with a stop at the underpass for 3 rounds of Wall Sits with 20 OH press IC followed by 20 American Hammers.

Next stop was the gazebo for 5 pull ups, 10 HR Merkins and 20 Jump Squats followed by a run up the hill and back. Get in as many rounds as you can in 10 minutes.

Six minutes of Mary to finish it out.

COT/BOM

When we live right, we leave right.

Are you bringing happiness to those around you, or causing them to worry? Are you helping others, or bringing them harm? When you tell someone you will do something can they trust you to do it?

Are you living a life that others will want to remember after you are gone or want to forget?

Status Quo

05:30 hits at Downtown and there are 17 PAX ready to get after it. Short disclaimer, pledge, 5 Burpee’s and we’re off.

Mosey to the bridge on MLK and lunge walk across, a train is passing underneath so when you get to the other side 5 Burpee’s. Continue mosey to the parking lots behind DSS for a Triple Nickel. 5 HR Merkins in the lower lot then up the stairs for 5 Diamond Merkins in the top lot before heading back down the stairs on the opposite side.

Circle up for Round 1 of Ab work:

20 American Hammer’s IC

20 Flutter Kicks IC

10 Oblique Crunches each side OYO

Cross Page Ave to the large parking lot and keep the blood flowing with some Dirty 11’s. Mike Tyson’s on one side and Big Boys at the far side of the lot. Perform a Burpee at both of the islands each time you cross the lot. YHC underestimated how large the lot was so this took quite a bit longer than expected. Gotta cut some stuff out of the Weinke but that’s ok, save it for the next Downtown Q.

Round 2 of Ab work, same as above.

Mosey back to the start for Round 3 of Ab work and 10 Burpee’s to close it out.

COT/BOM

Read a passage from Uncommon Life by Tony Dungy about going against the Status Quo.

Uncommon Key – “Your mission is shaped by your values, and if your values are misplaced, you’ll miss your true mission. Understand that status is fleeting and artificial; pursue what is really worthwhile.”

Proverbs 19:8 – “To acquire wisdom is to love oneself; people who cherish understanding will prosper.”

Crappy Morning

Nine PAX, one of which was an FNG, decided to get out in the gloom and put in some work. Since there was an FNG a disclaimer was given, then on to the pledge and a quick warmup of 5 Burpee’s.

Mosey over to Central Ave to a point where the road starts a steady downhill grade and get started with a Quarter Pounder.

Sprint 25 yards, perform 25 Merkins and NUR back

Sprint 50 yards, perform 50 Squats and NUR back

Sprint 75 yards, perform 75 LBC’s and NUR back

Spring 100 yards, perform 100 SSH’s and NUR back

Next up was a mosey down Main Street stopping at the three banks along the way for some ATM’s.

Alternating Shoulder Taps x10IC

Tempo Merkins x10IC

Merkins (fast) x10

Reverse course and back through town to hill where we started. Still hungry, so we made the Quarter Pounder a double. This round was:

25 Diamond Merkins

50 Jump Squats

75 American Hammers

100 Mountain Climbers

Back to the school for 3 rounds of 10 Step Ups, 10 Dips, 10 Derkins and 10 Big Boys. Still had time for a couple of rounds of Mary before time was up.

COT/BOM

Discussed a section of the book Uncommon Life by Tony Dungy about how we influence and sharpen the lives of others just by being willing to listen, show that we care and offer advice or examples of similar life experiences. Iron Sharpens Iron extends outside of just F3, you never know how you may influence someone else so work to set an example by living right each day.

Strong work by all the PAX this morning. Slaw commented that we literally worked the crap out of him, but the guy is a beast and pushed through till the end. I think he was trying to get back at SA for ruining the freshness of the morning air, took a risk, and didn’t get the desired result. This AO has a great group of regulars and if you haven’t posted here yet, give it a try. Tclaps to Tiger on bringing an FNG, John Wharton, now known as Shell Shock. Welcome brother, great work today.

Arms and Abs

It was an overcast day with a nice breeze….until the clock hit 17:30 at Midoriyama. The clouds disappear, the temperature rises 10 degrees and the air becomes thick and suffocating. Perfect weather for a JV workout!

After a short disclaimer, the pledge and 5 Burpee’s to warmup we headed out of the main park and across the road to the small parking lot to get started with the workout. Today’s focus was on arms and abs.

#1 – 11’s in the parking lot, Mike Tyson’s and Big Boys

#2 – Lindsay’s on the loop trail. Started with 30 HR Merkins and 10 American Hammers and then ran the trail stopping at various marked spots for 25 / 15, 20 / 20, etc. etc…

#3 – Run the trail in reverse and stop at the same spots for 10 Stagger Merkins each side and 25 LBC’s

#4 – Back across the road and head up Tower Road stopping at each light pole for 10 Diamond Merkins and 25 Flutter kicks

Enough time left for a couple rounds of Mary and Pizza Man closed us out with 22 for the Vets.

COT/BOM

If you haven’t been to Q Source I encourage you to come out this week and give it a try. You don’t have to participate in the workout, just show up for the coffeerama and study. We just started the Third Quadrant which is “Lead Right” and much can be learned from these discussions.

Here’s how John Maxwell defines a leader: “A Leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, AND shows the way.”

Baptist Hill

YHC arrived at Mt. Hollywood a little early and found three cars in the lot. SA, Seuss and Gold Digger evidently deemed that the workout alone wouldn’t be enough to challenge their abilities, so they decided to get in some EC. At 05:30 there were 10 PAX in attendance so after a quick disclaimer and the Pledge (Blart comes in hot at this point), we skip the warmup and head out on a mosey. Up Hawthorne to Glendale and then down to the bottom of “Baptist Hill” which would be the focus of the first part of the workout.

Triple Nickel

5 big boys at the bottom of Baptist Hill and 5 Burpee’s at the top x5

About the time we start, Doodles comes running down the hill. I think he left his car on the side of the road and just jumped out and left it there during the workout.

After the Triple Nickel we moseyed down Main Street stopping at each driveway and road crossing for 10 Merkins, 20 LBC’s and 30 SSH’s (11 stops total) and then headed up to the parking lot at Rankin Elementary to finish things off. Partner up  and while one partner runs a lap around the lot, the other performs AMRAP of called exercise, flapjack. Exercises were; Diamond Merkins, Freddie Mercury’s, Mike Tyson’s, Flutter Kicks and Burpee’s. Back to the start and time is up.

Cross Fit

We spend a lot of time, focus and of course energy in getting ourselves physically fit. We change our eating habits, dedicate time for workouts, focus on developing various muscle groups, etc….all in the hope of achieving our goals and becoming better physically. Are we doing the same for our spiritual health? Are we changing our habits, making time for prayer and reading the Bible, seeking guidance in areas where we struggle? Let’s put in the work to get better spiritually and see what those results look like.

YHC took us out.

Number 3

Summertime is fast approaching and the premier afternoon AO in all of F3 Nation is starting to feel the effects. If you’re planning to post here this summer, make sure you wear your big boy britches and bring some water, you’re gonna need it. An even dozen showed for my 3rd Q in 36 hours for a little Bible trivia and yet another workout with bricks.

Let’s get started with the Pledge so we don’t have another Q fail and then on to a quick warmup. Grab two bricks each and mosey to the small soccer field where the PAX found the cones set up at 25 yard intervals. Time for….

Quarter Pounder with Cheese

Sprint 25 yards, perform 25 Merkins and NUR back

Sprint 50 yards, perform 50 Squats and NUR back

Sprint 75 yards, perform 75 Mountain Climbers and NUR back

Sprint 100 yards, perform 100 SSH’s and NUR back

Since that was so much fun, let’s make it a Double, this round we did:

25 Diamond Merkins

50 Jump Squats

75 American Hammers

100 Moroccan Nightclubs

Time to move on to working those legs and core.

25 yd lunge walk then 25 LBC’s

25 yd mosey then 25 WWI’s

Rinse and repeat

25 yd bear crawl or crab walk then 15 Nolan Ryans each side

25 yd mosey then 25 Dying Cockroach

Rinse and repeat

Mosey to pick up the cones and do a few sets of 5 Man Maker’s along the way. Head back to flag, put up the bricks and finish up with a couple minutes of Mary.

NMM

We did a little Bible trivia throughout the workout and it’s evident the PAX read their Bible. This book is the blueprint for how we should live our lives, so read and study it daily.
