My M is yelling at me while I type

And I can’t concentrate, which is creating a writer’s block.  Now mind you, she’s watching the AMA’s while talking on the phone with a friend, trying to unwind from a long, hectic day.   And of all things, I’m interrupting her while typing.   Not talking, but TYPING, very quietly.   Think the issue was that I turned the lamp on.   I would ask for the brotherhood to back me.  If you have a chance, text her a random message at 704-718-4464 about the importance of back blasts – let her know that Turtleman sent you.    She doesn’t understand the wrath of the weasel shaker.

Anyhow, the title was going to be a bucketful of jellybeans.   To Roadie’s point, they were sugar-free and pretty hard…. and heavy.   Had a good turnout of 12 men.

SSH x 30 IC

LBC x 30 IC

Flutter Kicks x 20 IC

Merkins x 20 IC

Mosey around Snowballs while each PAX bucket carried our jellybeans around 1x,.  Continue mosey until all 12 HIMS have completed one lap.  By my count, it was close to a half mile.

Mosey down to old HT shopping center, alternating jellybean carry.

From parking lot, mosey to loading dock, bear crawl down the ramp, run to parking lot and complete 20 squats

Rinse and repeat above x3; plank it up waiting on the six

Quick count off

Next up we formed in a horizontal line (that’s not vertical) and  crab walked to the first light pole, mosey back to the start

Rinse and repeat x3; plank it up waiting on the six

Next up form a line on your six, get close together.  Complete 1 chest press with the jellybean bucket and pass to the next HIM.  This is where it got interesting.  Think it was Roadie who shouted, one is too easy, let’s make it 3.  That sounded good, make it 3 YHC confirmed.  Then Huckleberry I believe,  wanted to demonstrate that he could bench press a car and did like 40.  At that point, Squirt yelled, I feel like I should be doing something else.  Ok, YHC  concurred.  Everyone does big boy sit ups while the bucket comes down the line.   There was some other mumble chatter and I heard in a serious tone that the Q needed to take control.   YHC quickly countered that this was a group activity, inspired to drive engagement and collaboration from the PAX.  Clearly, that was accomplished.   Shortly after, YHC Omaha’d from there.   Editors note:  this activity will make a return and will be dynamic.

Mosey up the parking lot for some Dora, pair up.  200 squats, 100 merkins total.  1 partner runs across the parking lot while the other performs the exercise.

Plank waiting on the six

Mosey towards Snowballs, don’t forget the jellybeans.

Stop at the wall; Dips x 20 IC, Step ups 10 per leg; Rinse and Repeat

Mosey back to Snowballs; TIME

F3Gastonia Whetstone Update Oct 2018

F3Gastonia Whetstone has been up and running since July.  Many Stones and Blades are having conversations every few weeks or so; one pair almost weekly. The PAX into it have good things to say, so it must be moving them to advantage.

But remember that not every meeting brings immediate results; sometimes it takes a while for things to get moving. If that’s the case, try to continue for another few meetings. If it’s really not working, let’s talk. Sometimes the Stone & Blade just aren’t the right fit. There are PAX willing to serve as Stones who are currently unmatched, so we can reshuffle a pair.

New initiative: Have a good conversation and don’t mind posting some insight? Create a new post as if you are writing a backblast and give us a few sentences, a paragraph or two.  (HT: Roscoe for the idea)

Monk

Escalators

7 men fought off either the fart sack and/or sandy v.  We were greeted in the parking lot by a semi-fresh pile of crap.  Sister Act and Bedpan attempted to remove it, but ended up just making it worse.  After a little small talk and kotters to War Eagle, it was 05:30 and time to clock in.

Warmup: SSH x 15IC, low slow squats and toy soldiers x 10 IC

Mosey down to the lower turd shack and partner up.  Partner 1 will hold BTTW while partner 2 lunges around the shack.  Flapjack.

Up the stairs doing 20 calf raises per step.

Back in the parking lot we did 4 corners escalator style.  Corner 1: 25 merkins.  Corner 2: 25 merkins and 50 flutter kicks.  Corner 3: 25 merkins, 50 flutter kicks and 75 mountain climbers.  Corner 4: 25 merkins, 50 flutter kicks, 75 mountain climbers and 100 lbcs.  Once complete we de-escalated back around.  During the escalated part of the long run was a nur, bear crawl the short.

Mosey back to the launching point and circle up.  Pulled out the deck of death and went around for a few times.  Exercises were: 25 American hammers, 100 flutter kicks, 100 calf raises, 17 lbcs, 25 shoulder taps, 18 squat thrusts, 25 mountain climbers, 18 merkins, 19 ranger merkins and 25 plank jacks.

Tribal ceremony

8 Men showed at Folsom Saturday we had one Fng, but before all of that we had an impromptu tribal ceremony. Many of you know Allen Tate but few may know him as Chief. You can’t be chief of a tribe without a ceremonial headdress. Montross provided the gift and Chief was more than appreciative. 630 let’s get to work!

The thang:
Warm up Ssh,slow squats, merkins
20 each
To the tennis courts
11’s imperial squats and Freddy mercury’s
Bear crawls back and forth then around the lines. At this point the FNG is noticing that we at Folsom do a lot of mumble chatter.
4 corners x25 eachstop x4
Mtn.climbers, raise the roof,squats,lbc’s
Since we had the burpees by the lake coming up that morning I decided that some ultimate football would be great idea especially with an fng. Mr. Garvey warmed up to this idea. I’m not going to repeat the score (not sure if I can count that high). Afterwards we met back at the flag pledge and 22 for the vets. Finished with COT.

Prayer request:
We took this moment to celebrate what God has blessed us with. Cod possums surgery went well and he is recovering. My M is feeling better from her recent chrohns flare up. We did pray for the people of special Olympics and for the event held Saturday.

Mid summer morning in Mt Holly

Few in numbers at Mt Hollywood, but high in intensity.  Six HIM’s came out to start the week.  Went like this:

Started with SSH, Don Q’s, and imperial walkers.  Added in 5 burpees.

Mosey down Catawba to Main St, stop in the parking lot of the Italian restaurant.  Q calls blackjack with merkins and American hammers.  Started out with 20 merkins , ran up the hill to end of parking lot, one American hammer.  Reversed until one merkin and 20 hammers.  210 reps total.  Go to the wall at side of restaurant.  Q calls for 10 Australian montain climbers, 10 hip slappers, and 30 second wall sit, three rounds.  Brick pavers on walk way are of the slick variety, our hands were slipping from the sweat, wanted to avoid face plants so we omahaed to Tiger squats, 10 on one curb, run across for one on opposite curb and reverse (11’s).  About half way through, time to mosey back.

Time.

Christmastown 5K coming up, also The Forge on Wednesday at Grit’s n Greens

Remember Oompa and his family, Tesla sister, brother from Atlanta area that passed last week.

Q closed with prayer.  Have a good week everybody

Yank in the Woods

For any of you who the title describes what you do in your personal time, please keep that to yourself.

YHC decided to mix it up at the Yank, explore some new places.  We started with SSH 15x, Cotton Pickers 10x, imperial walkers 15x, 5 burpees.

Mosey to trail head and Rocky Branch, 5 burpees upon arrival.  PAX instructed to search for two coupons while on the trails, hang on to them.  Began a mosey on the main trail, but stopped at bridges for hand relase merkins or LBCs.  We did six sets of 20 hand release, and two sets of 25 LBCs while on the trail.  We did only the first section of main trail, about 1.3 miles.

Coming off the trail everybody had their coupons.  Q calls for iron hulk with coupons.  One merkin and four shoulder press, two merkin and 8 shoulder press, all the way 10 merkins and 40 shoulder presses.  This was tough.  Mosey back up Woodrow Ave to pull up bar being Belmont Middle.  10 pull-ups.  Mosey to the Yank.  Couple minutes remain so we called 25 American hammers, 25 flutter crunches, 25 dips.  Time.

PAX pushed hard, great work men.  We mentioned Christmastown 5k speed for need.

Tesla mentioned his Uncle Roy that passed away recently, who was a WWII pilot is being honored in Kannapolis Saturday with a military flyover.  All are welcome to attend.  Some thought also shared of what the Yank represents to them, some really good words spoken.

Q closed with prayer.

Special Olympics > Burpees by the Lake

Well, the day was finally here. A lot of EH and talking up was happening and a the end, there were the men, Ms and 2.0s ready to push the rock and raise some money for special olympics. Real quick, no athlete pays to compete; its all paid for by donations like those received for this event. A lot of work went into this by my M, who chairs the SO committee, Tooltime for talking it up and putting it out there, Hipaa for his online work and all those who helped spread the word.

Folks poured in, paid and got their shirts. The time came and we gathered near the main dock for instructions. It was opened with prayer for the event, special olympics and their athletes, no injuries and then for the Rich family. As you know, young Maddox Rich disappeared and was found in a creek close to the park. It was sad to pull in to see all the teddy bear memorials, but it serves as a great reminder.

Teams were spread into three heats with the parents and 2.0s in the last one. There was some last minute shuffling, as there always is, due to illness, travels or what have you. There was a lot of talk about how the Nantan cheated and had gold digger as a partner at the last minute when there was all of this talk about Roscoe… The prevailing thought was that Roscoe never even signed up. By the way, I want to thank those that donated as well. T-Square and Sparky showed up for some support. Sargento dropped off some paper currency as well. The course and stations were reviewed and burpees with a twist we demonstrated and advised the count as well as this was a cumulative event meaning what you do, your partner must do the rest to make the number. This would be a source of consternation afterwards for many pax, including myself.

The Thang:
Station 1 > 50 burpees
Station 2 > 50 pushups
Station 3 > 50 SSH
Station 4 > Dealers choice. The SO athletes held out cards from the new deck of death. Team does exercise on card.
Station 5 > 50 Burpees with a twist. Left and right count as one.
Station 6 > 50 Sit-ups
Station 7 > 50 Dips
Station 8 > 50 burpees…..END
The stations were set up around Rankin Lake, which is about 1.6 miles.

After all was said and done, Gold Digger and Tooltime won the day. Second was Sister Act/Boudin and third was Dolph/Whoopie. Honorable mentions to Pizz Mand and his M (Mrs. Pizza Man) and Blart and his M Gina.

The kid teams were really fun. I had my 7 year old 2.0 Rousey with me, Dobby (Rudolph), Venus (hushpuppy), Cydney (Blart), Crawdad & Rebecca (Boudin). Upon finishing, Rousey picked up the heavy share on our team and knocked out more burpees for me. The 2.0s really pushed it.

Up next were the competitions: one minute of burpees, sit-ups, pushups and hip slippers. A lot of good work done by all, but gold digger had a sweep. The 2.0s competed in burpees and sit-ups. Venus won the burpees and Cydney the sit-ups. Thanks to a cruel trick by my wife, one of the songs during the competitions was “Baby Shark”. My 2.0, who was counting for me decided to sing along. I had to straighten her out by telling her to stop singing and count, but she couldn’t care less. Hush puppy brought a ringer. His daughter was doing handstands and all other twists and bends after everything.

A few good notes: Tooltime cheated dolph by sitting on his back during pushups, Dallas (Blarts son) decided to drop pants and pee in the middle of the event, Hushpuppy having to buy a monkey Joes pass (Venus said you’re still taking me right), everyone getting their shirt but me (wife didn’t order mine), huckleberry being present when the M and I told each other happy anniversary after we had forgotten all morning (yes that’s how we spent it).

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who have participated with any support. The athletes there were amazing and so very special and glad everyone came out. What you men do, matters to those around you. Thanks to GNC who was out there as well as the GPD for putting this on and trying to make a difference in this world. Look for a GNC guy and two police at your workouts soon. Your donations have made this the #1 fundraising effort of the year for SO on behalf of the GPD. A heavy EH was put on as well. I hope I haven’t forgotten anything, but if I did, please forgive me.

Death in a Box

YHC still hasn’t been posting much while training for the Bourbon Chase relay next week. Still, it’s important to keep up with that full body fitness that we all need. As such, YHC signed up for the Q on this day. A snag came up Saturday on a run when that stupid old hamstring started giving me some problems. What to do? Gotta Q. As everything seems to have a way of working out sometimes, the week before YHC finally received his very own officially licensed and produced Deck of Death from F3 that he’d ordered back in 2014 it felt like! Perfect non mosey type of stuff.

Here’s what I remember…

Warm Up:

Goof Balls x20 IC

Morrocan Night Clubs I think x20 IC

Dying Cockroaches I think x20 IC

The Thang:

Break out the deck, preshuffled of course. These cards are slippery. Our goal is to make it through the whole deck before time’s up.

The mission this time is to do whatever exercise is listed on the card, there was a lot of variety. Lots of different kinds of merkins, I know that much.

Number cards would be 10 reps.

Face Cards are 25 reps.

Aces were 100 reps of that one.

We made it through 44 of the cards, 8 left over. We’ll have to do better next time. Maybe we’ll skip the warmup next time.

Moleskin: Still love the deck of deck. The new version has several different kinds of workouts baked into it. We’ll explore more next time. Best thing about it is that it keeps us close together and almost helps create mumble chatter. Love it!

Prayer Requests: Breaker Breaker’s family, Orangeman’s daughter, Boudin’s brother in law

Announcements: Burpeethon was today at 9. Were you there? Christmastown 5k, Gilligan has VQ next week!
