Word (which I forgot to give):

As we celebrate our independence as a country this week, remember that our salvation does not come through independent efforts, being “good enough”, doing enough good things:

“The cross reveals we are dependent on God for our salvation.” This known truth from Jeff’s sermon stood out to me this Sunday. We can’t do anything to save ourselves. If we could save ourselves, Jesus wouldn’t have had to die a humiliating death, taking The Father’s wrath on Himself, so that we won’t have to face that wrath. But He did have to die, so we are dependent on God for His Free gift of salvation. Freedom from sin and death. That is true freedom.
