The Possum Has Arrived

Even though Folsom has recently become “The Premier Running AO in Dallas,” some PAX choose to use this time for rucking also. Today marks another successful WO. Dating back several months, the newly awarded Chief Rockpusher, Allen Tate, has proclaimed “there will be an FNG who gets the name Cod Possum.” This has been a bit of an inside joke, but as of today, it is no longer as such. I give the man credit. Allen Tate pushed for the name to be awarded to some 2.0s last week during 2.0 Day at Folsom without success. This morning was different. It was in the air, you could smell it. With the possibility of Roadies brother posting brought new life to Allen Tate’s mission of branding such name.

Enough of the prequel, let’s clock in.

several ran, several rucked. Lots of mumble chatter and high fives during the activities. This is actually a great opportunity to get to know each other and hash out life. Not being a runner, something continues to drive YHC to be better at it; makes no sense really. Anyway, after a few miles of asphalt and sweat, the PAX come back together at the start. Way to push Men!

So, we have an FNG. Many say it was predetermined what this lucky young man would be named, but there were ample opportunities for him to provide info which could deter said determination. After several questions by the PAX, there was only one name that really fit and the timing couldn’t have been better. So, without further ado, Folsom welcomes Cod Possum. Looking forward to seeing you in the gloom brother.

Bedpan took us out

Men, this has been a rough past few days for the Dallas community. We have witnessed a man of God, a true leader and believer in Christ do something imaginable. Myself, struggling with anxiety and depression for over 20 years, can understand that this is a Disease! It’s something to never take lightly. It’s an illness that no one should ever have to battle. I’m here to tell you that if you do battle it, these F3 guys are going to come up to you, grab hold of that burden, and walk with you every step of the way! When things like this happen, it’s not time to ask why or how could this happen. It’s time to pray, reach out to those involved, and continue to be a strong spiritual presence when needed. You men have helped teach me what love and brotherhood is really about. Life is going to be hard, but always remember you will not have to walk it alone. Honored to be a part of this group!

Another Blockbuster Party?

Last Thursday morning at The Goat, Dolph, had with him in the back of his truck, 15 coupons and we all had a blockbuster party. Somehow after that workout, those coupons ended up in the back of Madman’s truck, which happens to be YHC’s son. I think you know where this story may be heading…

Last night, I asked Madman if he was joining me at The Storm for my  Q. He was a HC and I informed him we need to be out the door by 5:10am so we could welcome the PAX as they arrive. He was up and ready to go to work at 5am, we were out the door by 5:10am. We pulled into The Storm and a few HIMs were already there. Boudin was getting in some EC with a ruck and Orangeman made his morning run from home to join us. I let down the tailgate to Madman’s truck and arranged the coupons  for easy retrieval for the PAX. Over the next 4-5 minutes, more HIMs started showing up. It’s now 5:30am, ready to go to work. 13 HIMs all in a circle ready to get a warm-up and here comes another car. It is Tesla, rolling in at the last minute.

Warm-up

SSH x 30 I/C

IW x 20 I/C

Burpees x 5 oyo

The Thang:

Let’s mosey around the school. Along the way, stop at the roundabout for 15 merkins. Let’s mosey to the back of the school where we stopped for 20 LBC I/C. Let’s mosey, stop by tennis courts for 15 Bobby Hurleys. Let’s mosey, stop at Madman’s truck and each PAX grab a coupon.

YHC called next exercise, which requires using the coupons. Four exercises, curls, o/h presses, squats, bent over rows, 15x and then run to bottom of parking lot, 20 LBC oyo, back to the coupons. Rinse and repeat 3 times.  This was not the same blockbuster party that Dolph gave, but it was still fun!

Let’s mosey to the school building for next exercise, 11s. Derkins and then run to front of school for dips. Finished called exercise with about 10 minutes left. Circled up for a round of burpees. YHC started jumping in place, yelled “down” and each PAX drops for a burpee. Repeat with the next PAX until we make it around the circle…Finished off with a round of Mary and then mosey back to start.

Pledge

Announcements: F2 at NCWC on Thursday, Patriot 5k on Monday, upcoming Burpeethon. Need PAX to step up to Q over the next few weeks.

What an honor to lead a workout with such an awesome group of guys.

Retreat! Retreat!

I pulled into Folsom this morning with an ailing ankle that has been giving me problems off and on for about a month now. With that being said, my workout plan was in flux…I had some things in mind for the end of the workout, but I really wasn’t sure if that was the best decision for my foot. So as we kicked things off, I had said item on the weinke and figured I’d let the workout dictate whether I called it or not.

To my surprise, a new sweet-looking shovel flag with dual flags in a V position was waiting for me. Nice work Bedpan. Rumor has it he got the idea while browsing Pintrest. I think HIPAA has created a double-secret undercover F3 Pintrest site or something!

We continue to grow too! We had a young FNG with us today as Medicine Woman brought out young Nick Cooper. He lives near MW – a tough 14 year old young man who rides 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, runs track, and listens to country music. He’ll be ok around Folsom! I wanted to name him Baby since he looks a little like Justin Bieber, but I just couldn’t do that to a 14 year old HIYM like Nick because we want him to tell his friends about F3 so we settled on Quad. Welcome Quad!

Warmarama:

SSH – 10 IC
Imperial Squats 7 IC (IC didn’t work as well as I’d hoped so I cut ’em short)
Merkins – 5 single count
Mountain Climbers 10 IC
You guys better be glad Quad was there because it was going to be a Slaw-ter Starter!

Thang:

I shake up the PAX by taking a left out of the parking lot. The PAX were confused. I thought Medicine Woman was going to just leave and go home! He pushed through though, probably because he didn’t want to look like a sissy in front of Quad! We mosey around the pond and found a surprise.

Now I mentioned earlier I had something in mind for the end of the workout and wasn’t sure if I should call it and I’d let the workout dictate if I called it. Well, God sent one of his little creatures out of the woods to let us know that I needed to change the workout plan. As we’re running on the trail around the pond, I see a skunk on my right. I immediately stop and announce “Skunk!”. Pastor Clever and Gumby slam on the brakes as well, the others are catching up. Then, we see that tail raise up. “RETREAT! RETREAT!” I yell as a jailbreak naturally occurs. Yes, the men of Folsom were mere seconds from being sprayed by a skunk at point-blank range!

So I adjust the plan and we head to the lower shelter. I found the lights this morning without Roadie’s help, BTW.

  • Derkins 20
  • Diamond Merkins – 10 OYO
  • Step Ups 15 IC
  • LBCs – 15 IC
(frankly I’m not quite sure on the counts here because this was not on my weinke and I just made it up as we went)

I continue to struggle counting LBCs in cadence. I naturally try to count each crunch as 1….meaning 4 crunches for every 1. I figured it out though.

Mosey to the flag. There’s been a lot of discussion about the tragedy at Surf and Turf in Bessemer City on GroupMe the past few days. I know people who were there as I’m sure many of you do, but Medicine Woman knows the family really well on a personal level. As we waited for the 6 at the flag, MW was sharing some updates on the family. I felt the need for a little prayer over the situation and asked MW to lead us in that, as he obliged. Thanks for those words MW! Pledge to the flag and short mosey to the Sr Center parking lot for…

  • 11’s featuring Merkins and Star Jumps – 1 Merkin, cross 2 parking lots, 10 Star Jumps, run back, 2 Merkins, 9 Star Jumps…you know how it goes. Pastor Clever and Gumby put a lap on MW, Quad, and I so gave them an extra set, which they gladly knocked out. Good work guys!

Mosey back through the park and left at the fork to Sparky’s Lot for
– Burpee Long Jumps – these are always a hit. Gumby said ‘You’re a man after my heart, first 11’s and now this”. I will admit, they are borrowed from your weinke brother!

  • Route 66 back across the parking lot,. Lunge to the lines and do Bobby Hurleys at each line. We did all 12 lines so it was really Route 78.

Just a few minutes left so we cut across the camping lot behind the tennis courts. Most PAX were getting pretty gassed and Hank had to hit the road anyway. I did not anticipate the amount of water that would be standing in that field. Feight would have whined and probably turned around but the HIM of Folsom had no real issues. MW reminded us that if he could survive sticking his head in the homless urinal uptown, we could survive this!. Good point brother!

  • 22 for the vets to finish it of.

Time! As for that mystery exercise, I will just save that for another day.

Announcements – The Murphy on Memorial Day

COT – YHC took us out in prayer. Thankful to God for bringing us all out safely to become better dads and better men. Prayed for the kids with EOCs coming up, all of our families, and the victims at Surf and Turf.

Moleskin –

I consider myself from Bessemer City (went to school there, my church is there, my family is there, etc) and I got a call from Sparky Sunday asking if I was ok and if I’d heard about the tragedy at Surf and Turf. I hadn’t even heard about the incident yet…it had only been about 20-30 minutes before and an F3 brother was checking in on me. That was a good feeling for sure, but then my mind turned to the sadness of the situation. What happened has happened and we don’t truly know all the details yet. What I do know though is mental health and mental illness is serious. I worked in the field for about 6 years and saw some of it first hand. Mental illness can change a person and sometimes, meds (not just those for mental illness) can as well. Keep loving on and supporting those around you struggling. Many of us are going to have times where we are going to grief, stress, sadness, depression, etc. Keep each other close and don’t hesitate to reach a hand out to a brother in need. Just as important, the COT is a place where you can share some of those demons you’re battling. We may not be able to “fix it”, but we can pray for you and we can support you, and do our best to help out!

BRR Training

The BRR team was invited to take to Crowder’s Mountain with me for 3 trips to the top at 3pm on the 20th.

I gave it until 3:02 and found that I was on a Solo mission.

The Thang:

I put on a 30 pound pack and headed out for the first summit. It was not to bad but the heat was real.

2nd trip, I drank some water on the way to the top. Much harder but the orange I ate at the top made a difference.

3rd trip, did not happen. 2 was enough for this round.

The Moleskin:

So I had not used this location ever to train for the BRR. But, it would be my opinion that the 2 laps up is very close to what 1 leg is really like on the run. I will drop some other dates on myself doing this and hope to have some people join me.

Gastone, Pushing the Rock

Coconut Shuffle

10 Showed for the Sunday run.

The Thang:

The group ran the 5 mile loop.

Several Rucked,

Some started early.

Stroganoff ran an extra 5 before hand.

The Moleskin:

This run is set up around a run that takes place every week in Charlotte. The goal was to have a constant course so no matter if you are slow or fast that you no or learn the way. This is also for safety as if you are new to the run, we know we can go back and get you if needed. The 2nd F is just as important as the first so this is also a time to have after the run for some Fellowship. This Route was not just put together with me it kind of made itself after about a month and can be ran in either direction for an equal hurt. Thanks to all that have been a part of this run and I look forward to the future runs at this location.

Roadie took us out in Prayer.

Thanks for the opportunity to Q

Gastone Out!

Great to see Clavin back out this am.  Welcome back brother. Way to push.

All PAX worked hard, pushed, were inspirational, and just as awesome as always.  I will never take that for granted.  It’s what keeps me coming back.

Thank you all for being exactly what I need to start the day in such a great way.  You are all such a blessing.

Aye!

Timeframe

Is Everyone on the DL?

Sparky had been planning a 2.0 friendly workout at Folsom. Once the date was set, he reached out for a Q to lead the PAX that weren’t bringing 2.0’s or doing Pain Lab with Hipaa. YHC volunteered because hey, how hard could it be? Sister Act and YHC had been kicking around some ideas, and we came up with something easy to remember.

YHC posted early with Sister Act to get some EC. By the time we get back to the launch pad at Folsom, it resembled a scene from Daddy Day Care! It was awesome to see soooo many PAX and their 2.0’s getting ready for some F3 fun. YHC must admit, it was difficult to talk to everyone before the workout started. Guys just kept coming in. The parking lot was full. Whoopee  started us off with handing out rocks to all the 2.0’s while telling a story given to him by Dr. Feelgood. YHC won’t tell the whole story, but it is about faith in Jesus and pushing the rock, no matter what. Even though the rock doesn’t move, the constant pushing and continued faith through the hard and lean times will make you stronger. Whoopee attempted to get Dolph to take his shirt off, but Dolph refused. YHC believes Dolph refused because he didn’t want the other 2.0’s asking their dads “Daddy, why don’t you have big muscles like he does? You work out, don’t you?”. Thanks for saving us the humiliation, brother!

Whoopee then calls the warmup of SSH, Merkins and Mountain Climbers. YHC has no clue who is going with the dads or going with YHC. After Whoopee moseys the herd of PAX and 2.0’s away, YHC is left with Sister Act, Def Leppard, Pockets and Oompa Loompa. As we get ready to take off, YHC asks how the guys are doing. Sister Act rolled his ankle playing 3 on 3 basketball at his 2.0’s dance rehearsal. Leppard’s hip is still giving him a fit, Pockets thinks he has pulled a groin muscle, and Oompa brought the crud back with him from his business trip last week. YHC had a double portion of Sandy V going on due to his inability to post because of his own bad work week. YHC thought to himself “Is EVERYONE on the DL?” (by DL, that stands for disabled list, not on the “down low”). We will modify as needed. Let’s go.

The Thang:

  • Run 1 mile
  • Stop and perform 10 reps of 10 exercises. Exercises were: Merkins, Squats, Flutter Kicks, CDD’s, Corkscrews, Bobby Hurleys, Seal Jacks, WW1’s, Werkins and Burpees.
  • Rinse and repeat until time’s up or someone splashes Merlot.

YHC must admit, Leppard’s typical Merkin/CDD form has improved drastically. All the shouts of “Keep your butt down, Leppard” have finally paid off! Outstanding form on the Merkins, sir! The slow moseying group pushed through 4 rounds. We arrived back to the launch pad when the 2.0’s were circling up for name-o-rama.

Moleskin:

Having said that, YHC must admit to a few Q fails.

  1. YHC did not communicate clear instruction for the route that was to be taken. Because of this, 2 PAX were separated from main group and didn’t rejoin until all PAX arrived back at Folsom, which leads to the next Q fail-
  2. YHC did not pick up the 6. If YHC had done this, then Q fail #1 never would have happened.
  3. No Pledge of Allegiance was performed.
  4. And last of all, no COT was performed. This violates one of F3 core principles. In the confusion of the 2.0’s, Pain Lab, etc., YHC completely brain dumped and completely struck out on the COT. Men, I am truly sorry for this Q fail most of all. The COT is what brings us all together at the end of the workout to share things that are on our hearts and minds. It’s where our shields are locked once again before we go our separate ways after the workout. YHC asks for forgiveness. He won’t miss that again.

Even though we were lower in number than usual, the men truly pushed through a tough one (due to the injuries). All gave it their best and came out the other side a little stronger. Thank You for the push, men. Thank You for letting me lead.

Maybe Turtle Man will eventually write it…maybe not

Way back, coming up on two weeks Turtle Man takes the Q at Snoballs. For as much mumble chatter as he provides, he doesn’t take the Q too often but I’m sure that will change soon. The circle began to form and Turtle Man stepped forward with a disclaimer and the pledge. We did a light warm-up of a few things that I can’t remember because, well, it’s been nearly two weeks and I can barely remember my own Q from a week ago. But as you maybe began to detect – if you don’t write a backblast for a workout which I attended, I want credit – especially during this 40 Days of Discipline. The Weasel Shaker can be a thankless job and the pay is awful, but there are certain privileges that will be invoked from time to time and this happens to be one of them. So after a brief warm-up, Turtle Man announces the sometimes disconcerting “follow me,” out of the parking lot and away we went traveling down Riverwood Parkway. We stopped after maybe two minutes of action and were commanded do to 25 merkins on our own. Turtle Man was announcing his presence with authority. He announced it a few more times so that by the time we reached Gastone’s Hill, we’d done 100 merkins. A nice shoulder burn was going and then the Thang was announced. NUR Gastone’s Hill all the way to the top; once at the top, perform 25 American Hammers (or maybe it was Flutter Kicks, or maybe he omaha’ed to Flutter Kicks, but we did 25 of an ab exercise at the top). Run forward all the way to the bottom and do I think 10 or maybe 20 squats (or some exercise like a squat intended to burn our quads). That was the loop: NUR up, ab exercise for 25 reps, Run down, 20 of a leg exercise = 0.4 of a mile each trip. Nice idea Turtle Man, which I later learned he borrowed from Stone Cold. The challenge was levied as to who could complete six rounds. To conserve time, Turtle Man omaha’ed the NUR after the third trip, opting for the standard forward mosey. At some point during the trips Stroganoff and Stone Cold had to leave a little early. We reached 06:10 and Turtle Man called for the jail-break. Sargento had been leading the charge the entire workout and following his Q, about-faced on the hill maybe 3/4 up and headed back. Gastone and maybe Whoopee decided they were going to complete the 6 laps, which they did and hustled behind us. We had a brief COT and Turtle Man took us out in a prayer.

So as you have read – a pretty good Q. That very morning after the workout I set up Turtle Man with access (again) to write his backblast. He even thanked me for doing it. But then the Sad Clown attacked him and he got lazy or lost his focus. So I’m picking up the Six in the narrative way. Here is looking forward to Turtle Man’s next Q and writing his first backblast. For all of you among the PAX, many have the ability to post a backblast. If your Q falls short – you step in and write one for him, we’re always here for each other.

7 HIMs posted at the Dallas Courthouse to do some recon work for a future Sunday morning running/rucking AO.  Thanks to all that posted and it shows why you do recon work before you launch an AO.  All PAX ran today, anywhere from 4-5 miles were logged.  The route definitely needed a little work which YHC was quick to give two options to the PAX to choose from.  Official launch date expected first Sunday in June (June 3rd).  Start time is yet to be set.  Once again thanks to all the HIMs that posted.
