HIM As Far As The Eye Could See

It was great to see a huge turnout at Prison Break this morning. 20 HIM beat the power of the fart sack to put in some work! While I would like to think knowing yours truly had the Q may have helped bring them out, I’m pretty sure that has nothing to do with it…rather it was probably the combination of cool temps and re-dedication to Rock Pushin’ for the New Year.

Some ran, some rucked, and some just walked, but it was pretty evident as Gearwrench, Sarlacc, Bedpan, and Oompa came in after completing over 5.5 miles that Rock Pushin’ was indeed in the air. I don’t know how many miles he covered, but I can’t ignore Big Pappy huffin’ and puffin’ his way back to the COT as he’s preparing for the P200. Shoutout to him for getting it done. Even Roadie posted for the 2nd time this week. May that excitement and renewed commitment for 2022 be contagious for us all!

Announcements: There are about 4 spots left in the Smokey Mountain Relay (see Purple Haze if you are interestesed). Ball Joint has a special Q planned for Folsom this Saturday (1 year anniversary). Keep Trooper Horton’s family, Gumby, Chef Aaron’s family, and my foot in your prayers. YHC took us out in prayer.

12 Days Of Christmas and Indecent Exposure

Fortunately for me, Slaw was kind enough to remind me that I had the Q today! What seemed (in my mind, at least) like a sure-fire beatdown a month ago turned into more of a “what can an ailing Montross come up with”. I dusted off an older “12 Days Of Christmas” weinke from 2 years ago, made a few tweaks, and showed up to Midoriyama with only monents to spare with playlist and cardboard sign in hand.

First thing first, you can find my playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5zlfnAtzQbmiffUTSA1h6n?si=mcVrQ5FgR_6uNp_EQR5zfQ&utm_source=copy-link

Quick warmup with 10 SSH IC and 5 burpees. Lets get to it.

12 Regular Merkins
11 CDDs
10 Peter Parkers
9 Parker Peters
8 Slaw Squats (nice and low fellas)
7 Backward Lunges
6 Imperial Walkers
5 MONKEY HUMPERSSSSSSS
4 Mountain Climbers
3 Plank Jacks
2 Hillbillies
And a Merkin and a Burpee
(Count right leg only on 10, 9, 7, 6, 4, 3, and 2)
Run a lap around the parking lot.
Repeat for about 40 minutes.

We had a litle time left so Slaw led us in LBCs. Time!

Pretty simple. I was pretty gassed after 30 minutes but the bat flippers kept pushing the pace. That is exactly why I did this workout so all good. On one of my final laps, I noticed a PAX on the edge of the parking lot taking a leak. I had P200 flashbacks of Pockets on the Cooper River Bridge. Another PAX was spotted peeing near the horseshoe pit and a third PAX (whose name rhymes with Dr. Moose) was accused of peeing near SLAW’s spot. The “Moose” story is just a rumor so you may want to ask him to either confirm or deny. Needless to say, the quantity of urine was alarming tonight.

COT – convergence 1/1/2022 7 a.m. @ Midoriyama. Prayers for people who are sick and Broke’s family.

Site Q Substitute

About 3:30 am, I woke up and saw a message from Big Pappy that he was sick and wouldn’t be abe to make his Q. No problem, I quickly pulled a weinke together and went back to sleep.

After runners ran and ruckers rucked, we gathered for some fellowship and to allow Gearwrench the opportunity to do an Irish Jig all over Mayor’s feelings. As Mayor put it, he may have a tough exterior, but he has feelings too. Maybe they can become friends on Strava.

Prayers for Mayor’s M, SA, Pappy’s family, foster kids and those whonhave lost loved ones. Convergence Jan 1 – location TBD (Mayor had the Folsom Q on 1/1 so this hurt his feelings too)

Matthew 1:18 at The Sword

There were runners and ruckers. I am still not running and letting my foot heal up so I used the opportunity to ruck with Bedpan and give him a recap of the F3 Christmas Party.

At 6, we all regrouped for a little 3rd F. My church has a series going about the Christmas story and one key takeaway I heard recently was to tell the story every year, even if people have heard it. It is a great reminder and it may reach new ears.

So we started at the beginning with Matthew 1:18.

Matthew 1: [18]Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in this way: when his mother Mary was going to be married to Joseph, before they came together the discovery was made that she was with child by the Holy Spirit.

We went on to talk about verses 19-25 as well and how Joseph was a man of great faith and planned to divorce Mary, as was customary at the time. He was going to do so quietly to not embarras her. However, an angel appeared to him to tell him the baby was the son of God and that je was to name the baby Jesus. Joseph decided to be obedient to God and stay with Mary. That is a man with great faith and courage!!!!!

Mall Walkers

The sound of rain drops hitting the roof is definitely not my favorite sound when I wake up in the morning and have the Q. Fortunately, the rain was pretty light and all but quit by 5:30 am.

A few guys got in some mall walking and a few got in some running. We all did more than the guys who fartsacked.

Folsom 11/16 – The Weather Has Turned Cold

A cool icy chill rolled through Folsom this morning. There were no bugs, no birds, and (fortunately) no skunks….only 11 sweaty men who showed up to show out and put in some work. I wasn’t really watching the clock as I enjoyed some fellowship with my friends but Ball Joint, being the Site Q and all, reminded us that it was indeed 5:30 am and time to get to it so here we go.

Warmup:
Side Straddle Hops IC
Toy Soldiers IC
Don Qs IC
some EC stretching while we waited for Spackle

Let’s get it. Mosey to the flag at the entrance. A few of us made it there faster than others but that’s all good…Ball Joint and Wichita picked up the 6 and I led the other PAX in flutter kicks

Pledge. Short mosey back the gazebo area.

We’re going to run laps around the triangle road that is surrounding the gazebo. 10 Big Boys at the first corner, 20 Merkins in the second, 30 squats in the third. Rinse and repeat for 5 laps. Wichita and Spackle got in 6 because they are bat flippers!

Short mosey to the hill to the left of the spot where the road splits.

We borrowed from Rudolph’s farewell Q Saturday here – Jacobs Ladder – Run the hill 7 times. 1 burpee at the top after your first climb, 2 burpees at the top after your second climb, 3 burpees…you get where this is headed, finish with 7 burpees. Looks better on paper but the guys pushed through! Spackle gave us a 10 count to catch our breath.

Time is running short so let’s use this hill again – 7 more climbs but we’re bear crawling this time – 7 LBCs at the top each time.

2 minutes left on the clock so we mosey back to the parking lot. Time!

COT – Announcements: potential convergence to remember Chicken Little on 11/20 (see Slack for more updates and details), Christmas Party 12/11 (sign up, preblast should be sent soon), Christmastown 5k (Ball Joint and Bed Pan committed to joining me to push a chair. We want as many as we can get). Prayer Requests: Mayor’s M, Rockabilly’s family, Freight’s family, Chicken Little and family, Big Pappy & SA’s families, Haze’s friend on a heart transplant list, and Montross’s sister. I took us out in prayer.

It’s almost always a struggle to get up early in the morning (for me anyway) but I am always glad I did. Thanks for motivating me and I appreciate all of the guys that came out and posted with me this morning.

-Montross

The Sparksack

A text arrived just after 1:30 am this morning from Sparky letting me know he would not be at Prison Break this morning for his Q. Was it bubble guts? Was he celebrating the Braves win too late? ” Quality time”? I don’t know but I appreciated the heads up and it was no problem for me to cover.

The weinke is pretty simple at Prison Break. Run or ruck. You vs you. It was a beautiful morning with nice cool weather. Good to see you guys this morning!

Prayer requests -Mayor’s M, Rockabilly family, SA family, Pappy and family, Stogie’s dad. Achey Breaky.

Old Men Run Too

To hear us talk before, you’d think we’re all 2 steps away from the nursing home. The body doesn’t seem to hold up like it used to but that didn’t stop us from getting in some miles this morning.

Props to Mayor as he laid down some strong times and approached some PRs this morning.

Prayer requests: Rockabilly family. Mayor wife, Chris Howell daughter, Bourbon runners, James Goudelock. YHC took us out in prayer

It Is Official

Roundup offically handed over the shovel flag and I am Site Q of Prison Break. I mall walked, the other guys ran.

Prayer requeats: Mayor’s M, Wojo sinus, half marathoners, Hacksaw’s M. YHC took us out in prayer

Bootcamp at Snowbird

I joined a group of 12 great men for a trip to Snowbird for the Be Strong mens retreat. A few guys were talking about a 7 mile run on Saturday morning. YHC had no interest in that but I wanted to get up an at ’em so I volunterred to Q a bootcamp for those who were interested. 5 men showed for a workout at our new Mountain Man AO in Andrews, NC. Sparky and Pizza Man ran 7 miles as we worked out so they get credit as well.

Warmup: We started off in the Snack Shack with the typical warmup stuff. Side-Straddle Hops, Toy Soldiers, and some yoga-ish stretching.

Thang: Considering I only brought one pair of shoes, I had no interest in running in the grass and getting my shoes wet so we mosey to the basketball courts.

BOMBS – 50 burpees, 100 Overhead Claps, 150 Merkins, 200 Big Boys, 250 Squats. Mayor tried to add an extra B but we weren’t having it!

Next up – Trumps Wall. 10 Oblique Crunches, jump over the GaGa ball wall, 10 Decline Merkins, jump back over yhe wall, repeat 5 times. Wirenut had to skip out a bit to talk to a man about a horse, be he rejoined us later.

Mosey to the Coop stairs. Everyone holds an Al Gore while each Pax runs up and down the stairs. It was slick from the dew so we only made one round per Pax. We took the scenic route back to the Snack Shack.

With a few minutes left, each PAX called an exercise in a round of Mary. Time!

COT: lots of prayer requests including Rockabily’s cousin, Pappy, and 5k runners. YHC took us out in prayer.

Snowbird was a great experience. Due to injury, I couldn’t workout last time I went up there so it was cool to get some work in this year. As expected, 2nd F was on point. Many laughs were had among all men and Allen Tate even realized he has a love of snakes…or at least one rubber Copperhead from eBay. Sparky proved he can get there in less than 6 hours. Most of us got in a nice hike to the Wesser Fire Tower as well. Most importantly, the messages were great and I know I personally took away several things that will help me be a better Christian and a better man. I am confident others did as well. If you haven’t been to Snowbird, go next time and pick up the Q while you are there!
