Formerly The Black Knight, this AO meets Monday mornings at 0530 at Pelicans on Union Road, near the entrance to Martha River’s Park

Welcome Back…

First Q in a while, only second Q in a year.  5 pax enjoyed the glorious gloom for a Hushpuppy Beatdown.  1 FNG, Jess arrived.  EH’d by a friend in Atlanta, he was told “you should try one in Gastonia!” so he did.  As we approached startex, who should mosey in out of the gloom at a  swift pace?  None other than Stroganoff!

The thang:

Warmup with some Imperial Walkers, Side straddle hops and Merkins. Mosey’d to the fieldhouse at Marthas.

11’s with Merkins and LBC’s while running the length of the sidewalk.

Found some picinic tables for some dips, step-ups and derkins.

Found some playground equipment to do some pullups and calf raises on.

Played on the swings by doing some suspended crunches (hands on the ground, feet in the swing, pull your feet towards your chest).

Did some squats

Returned to the picicnic tables for more dips, step-ups and derkins.

Meandered back to startex for 5 minutes of Mary, with more imperial walkers, Flutters, Big boy situps, LBC’s and oblique crunches.

Prayer requests mentioned were:

EZ Rider, Tooth Fairy’s Daughter, Turtle man.

Welcome Jess Still, AKA Amazon!

What is handy on a trail?

YHC roamed around this AO to gather inspiration as no weinke was prepared. Along the way saw Gastone, Dirt and TimeFrame out getting a little EC.

0530 hits and there is a late Christmas gift of a FNG. A Stinky Bird cousin. He hails from DC, so we will give him a good start and send him to Monk.

With the FNG present, a more complete introduction/disclaimer is given.

Let’s move a little down the hill and have a seat on the wall.
After a bit we did 15 Air Presses IC
Put R. Foot on L. Knee, and then switched it around.

Rinse and Repeat the Wall work.
Mosey to top of hill and do 20 Mtn Climbers and then back to wall.

Similar wall work, switching Air Presses for Marching.
Mosey to top of hill for 25 SSH and 20 Squats.

YHC posed a trivia question at this point…
“How many times has Ohio State beat Clemson in a bowl Game?”
Whatever the PAX answered, that was how many burpees were going to be called. The initial answer given was two, but they settled on the right answer of 0. Oh well, maybe next time.

From there we moseyed around the parking lot some to end up in front of the Food Lion.
Here, 5 Pax would say when they started F3 and who EH’d them. After the 5, mosey to end of the lot and back. This was repeated until all had spoken.

Mosey to the wall in front of the bank.

15 Step Ups each leg.

Glad to see Belding come back and always good to have JK2 make an appearance.

As we go into 2020, remember this from Romans 8:18:
For I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed to us.

Watts Up powering down.

40 on 4th of 40/50?

Seems there are a lot of challenges being thrown out there lately. A few weeks ago, YHC was called out to join an EC ruck workout. I must say I have become a fan (but I still wouldn’t call myself a Sambriches). That same day, YHC was challenged to Q a workout at Neverland. It had been a while so it was probably the push I needed. My day just happened to fall on day 4 of the 40/50 challenge. YHC reversed the challenge back on the PAX of F3 Gastonia to see if we could get 40 to post on day 4. Yes, it was ambitious. No, it didn’t matter if we didn’t get 40 to post. The men who showed up would push the rock, and putting a little extra challenge out there may help some PAX get the challenge going.

On the morning of the workout, there were only a handful of cars in the Snoball’s parking lot when I rolled in about 520. At this point, I was hoping to have 4 PAX to post. Pretty rapidly, a flurry of vehicles came in and the count grew. As 530 approached, I knew we may not hit 40, but it was the largest crowd that I had Q’ed.

Clock hit 0530 so it was time to start.

No FNGs, so a short disclaimer

Warm-up
SSH x 14
Merkins x 14

At some point, an FNG rolled in so a more detailed disclaimer was given.

Round 4 – Copperhead Squats

Prayer to take us out.

Thanks to the HIMs that posted that morning. Upon returning home from this post, I found the daily Bible verse on my phone was from Galatians 5:16. “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” To me, this embodies the spirit of the 40/50 challenge. We’ve talked a lot about the maintenance of calories, but I see this as a challenge to become better men in all aspects of life. There is, by the way, a good deed component specifically called out. Being around the men of F3 Gastonia helps me in my walk. You guys encourage me to be better and set the pace in our community in all areas of leadership. I feel truly blessed to be a part of this group.

Until next time…

Pushing Power @ Neverland

YHC has been on a plateau for about 6-7 weeks now. Inspired by Defib’s upcoming challenge, the PAX running halfs, and the Pax tackling the Tuna, YHC decided today we would up the cardio at Neverland.

YHC arrived in Neverland to find Dirt off doing EC and many regulars sitting snug in their vehicles. While stretching, Wet Nutz indicated he hoped to have at least one FNG.

Alas 0530 hit, with no FNG, so only the abbreviated disclaimer was provided…

Pledge.

Warm-up:
5 Burpees OYO

The real work:
Mosey to ramp behind the soon-to-be Planet Fitness.
Bear Crawl the ramp and then do 30 IW single count.
Repeat.
Somewhere in here, YHC was informed the FNG had in-fact appeared and a more formal introduction to F3 was given by the PAX that had seen him and brought him along. (Thanks to all involved)

Mosey back around the building, down to Union Rd and over to Fidelity Bank.
20 Merkins, Lap around the building and then 20 CDDs
Repeat, but this time go around the island behind the bank too.

Mosey on down Union to Rivermont Dr. with instructions to stop at the 4-way stop. I guess one homeowner is not used to runners in the gloom and nearly took a few of the PAX backing out of their driveway. (Easy Rider almost needed to be renamed Trunk Rider.)
Perform squats while waiting on the six. Once all were present…
20 Squats

Mosey down Valleywood, past maintenance shack and on toward the concession stand, stopping at a set of bleachers.
20 Calf Raises – Feet shoulder width.
20 Calf Raises – Feet wide
20 Calf Raises – Feet together

Mosey to picnic shelter.
20 dips
Run around 3rd island
20 step-ups each leg.

Many PAX expected a repeato, but Outhouse reminded YHC of some toys found during The Sammich, so let’s mosey to the entrance of the Park, switching to a nur about 1/2 way.
30 flutters single count.

Mosey back to the shopping center.
Partner-up with P1 pickup a sandbag holding the temporary fence.
While P1 carries sandbag to other end of parking lot and back, P2 perform SSH.
Flapjack.
Repeat.

Once the sandbags were back close to how we found them, mosey back to Snoballs.

Easy Rider led flutters while YHC retrieved my phone.

To put the cherry on this, 5 Burpees, run around the building (longest way) and 5 more burpees.

YHC called it about 90 sec early to give time for the FNG…

Welcome FNG Trey Pruitt, now known as Tin Cup.

Announcements:
Defib’s 40/50 Challenge starts Friday. (2250 calories in, post 40 of 50 days)
Gump has The Labyrinth on Wed – Halloween themed.
Wet Nutz has The Goat on Halloween.
Site Q change at Downtown on Friday.
Dark Helmet is speaking at Rotary on Thursday – Let Sargento or Stroganoff know if you plan on attending.

YHC took us out.

Moleskin:
Thanks to all the posted this morning. Thanks especially to the PAX that paced with Tin Cup.

I really appreciate the push, encouragement, and support given. I wouldn’t be where I am at from where I was without all of you.

Watts Up powering down.

A Walk in the Park

Neverland.  It has been quite a while since I Q’d.  Today was as good a day as any.

I was awake early so I got in some EC running before.  It was humid.

Good crowd showed for a Monday.

Let’s get after it.

Pledge followed by a quick IC warm up with 13 Imperial Walkers followed by 10 SSH’s.

The Thang

Mosey to the center of the baseball fields at Martha Rivers Park for some work that I endured when in the Carpex Region last month:

Split into 3 groups.  3 of the paths leading away from the center are designated 1, 2 & 3.

Run down the path, do 50 reps of an exercise, run back for 5 burpees and then plank for the PAX to complete.  After 1st Round, group 1 moves to path 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 1, etc.

Path 1 – 50 Merkins; Path 2 – 50 Flutter Kicks; Path 3 – 50 Squats

Round 2:  Path 1 – 50 CDD’s; Path 2 – 50 LBC’s; Path 3 – 50 Jump Squats

Time for some additonal reps:

OYO exercises as follows:

20 Merkins; 25 Flutter Kicks; 25 Squats; 20 CDD’s; 25 LBC’s; 25 Jump Squats

Run lap around one of the baseball fields and return

20 Merkins; 25 Flutter Kicks; 25 Squats; 20 CDD’s; 25 LBC’s; 25 Jump Squats

Run the long way back to Snoballs for some final IC Mary work:

20 Dying Cockroaches; 20 LBC’s

Time’s up

Announcements: 9/11 Memorial Climb this Saturday, 9/14; Stop Soldier Suicide – 9/21; JJ 5k – 9/28; Ragnar – Oct 5th

Several prayer requests

Name-O-Rama

The Moleskin

It was great hearing about the BRR Ruck this morning and over the last few days.  I had some real FOMO as it was an event I really wanted to do.  However, thanks to F3 and what I have learned about striving to be a HIM, I was with my family over the weekend in Raleigh with all 5 of us together, which doesn’t happen much right now as I have two in College and one still at home.  That was exactly where I needed to be and it was a terrific weekend.  The concentrica has helped me stay on my path over the past few years when it comes to keeping in mind focused on what is most important.  Balancing all this time between family, community, F3, work, etc is what HIMs have to strive to do and come to understand what being Third is really about.

Aye!

Until the next one.  See you in the gloom.

Stroganoff

Black Ball

Turtleman said he wasn’t going to be available today… something about taking time off, or a vacation or some sort of nonsense that didn’t involve posting this morning. Anyhow, at the time only Gastone and YHC offered to Q. While YHC came ready, the PAX was offered the opportunity to switch, but there weren’t enough takers to make the change, so here we go.

Standard Shortened Disclaimer.

Warm-Up:
A little Tabata to get things going…15 seconds of work with 7 seconds of rest…
SSH
Merkin
SSH
Squats
SSH
Plank Jacks
SSH

Pledge.

The Thang:
Through all of this, there was a black ball sitting in the middle of the circle. All had eyed it and some had even guessed it to be a bowling ball. YHC picked up the #10 ball and tossed it to a surprised pax and we moseyed to Robinwood Crossing Shopping Center, stopping near the cleaners at the first row of parking spots

The ball was passed to Island with instructions to place on one of the parking lot lines, no closer than 3 away. Island ran off and although he had a good bit of advice in which line to choose, ultimately placed the token 5 away.

Run to the line with the token – 10 Merkins.
Karaoke to the other end of the line – 20 Squats.
Nur to the starting line – 30 Plank Jacks.
Karaoke to the other end of the line – 5 Flying Squirrels.
Repeat for a total of 3 rounds.

Since Gastone was first to complete, he was sent to retrieve the token while the pax formed a tightish circle. Upon his return, assume the people’s chair position and pass (aka toss aka throw) the token to a fellow pax.Gastone was the first to drop the token and was assessed a 10 burpee penalty, followed by Rainbow Ranger and YHC. To end the fun, all were assigned 10 burpees.

After Spiderman’s version of a 10 count, YHC called a token Indian Run: Person with the token runs to the front. The token is passed back to the last man… you get the idea.

This sounded good on paper.
After one lap around the buildings… Ok, not such a good idea.
After a lap around the parking lot…. This may have been a bad idea.
After another lap around the buildings… This was a really crappy idea, who thinks of this stuff?

We ended up at the wall of the old grocery store.

I am sure, all thought wall sits were coming next, but YHC instead asked Whoopee to lead in some Hip Slappers, while his favorite, the rest of the pax may not have the same opinion. After some amount, maybe 10 IC, it was time for wall sitting, while passing the token back and forth. After the token traversed 3x, time to recover. But due to the token being dropped 3x, a 5 burpee penalty was called.

Next YHC asked Gastone to lead in 20 flutters IC, but when he started out slower than molasses in winter in Minnesota, Easy Rider thankfully took up cadence.

Time for another round of wall sits. The token was not dropped during this round, so a 5 burpee reward was called, followed by another round of Whoopee Hip Slappers.

Another trip around the buildings and back to start.

There was a bit time left, so Mary made an appearance.
Island – LBCs
Pedal – American Hammers
Whoopee – Burpees
Easy Rider – Dying Cockroaches

Time!

Announcements:
Convergence on Saturday, 7 AM at GasHouse. All other AOs closed.

There is no Diablo Sammich on 04-July, Whoopee is doing a Murph at Martha Rivers at 7 AM instead. All are invited to attend.

YHC took us out in prayer.

Great work put in by all today. It was an honor to be given the opportunity to lead.

Watts Up powering down.
