The Track was Locked – What gives?

Good crowd showed for Gashouse this morning to bootcamp or painlab it considering the QvQ was happening elsewhere.   With The Mortimer coming up in a week, YHC planned a “laid back” workout today.

Pledge of Allegiance.

Short warm up that included 10 IC SSH, 10 IC Imperial Walkers and 5 IC Merkins.  Bootcampers set off for the parking lot at Grier Middle School for the first round of work.

Lunges across parking lot – 5 Merkins – Mosey back across parking lot – Rinse/Repeat 5 times

Mosey to the steps at The Pad behind First Presbyterian Church for some Dora .5-1-1.5.

Partner up for aggregate partner reps of the following 3 exercises:

50 Merkins – 100 Squats – 150 LBC’s

Partner 1 does exercise reps – Partner 2 runs to top of steps + one burpee before returning.

Round two of same Dora:

50 Merkins – 100 Squats – 150 Flutter Kicks

Mosey toward the track at Grier Middle School.

Two stops along the way for some IC Low-Slow Squats.

Arrive at the track……..it’s locked.  What in the world?  We have been locked out of the Original F3 Gastonia workout spot.  Sadness abounded but we quickly recovered and headed to the back of the Library for some modified Wolfpack Grinder work.

Exercise – Mosey to opposite side of parking lot – Exercise – Mosey back to where we started.  Included multiple sets of the following exercises:

Merkins – LBC’s – Squats – CDD’s – Flutter Kicks – Lunges

Time was running out.  Quick stop at the steps for 3 sets of calf raises.

Mosey back to the Schiele and Shovel Flags.  Quick round of Mary before the bells rang.

Several announcements:  Community Foundation Run – Potential workout that morning at the Ballpark; Young Life golf tournament coming up; The Mortimer and P200 coming up next weekend.

Several spoken and unspoken prayer requests.

I prayed us out.

Good work men.  Until the next one.  Aye

The Greatest Salesman in the World

9 degrees at the start.  10 HIMs showed for a brisk beatdown the day before Christmas.

As a cliche for the day, YHC broke out the 12 Days of Christmas workout from Christmas Eve 2017 that went as follows:

Short warm-up with SSH’s, Imperial Walkers and Merkins.

Mosey to track at Grier Middle School.

Here are the 12 exercises in the 2022 version of Stroganoff’s 12 Days of Christmas:

Day 1 – 1/2 lap mosey; Day 2 – 10 Bobby Hurley’s; Day 3 – 10 Merkins; Day 4 – 20 LBC’s; Day 5 – 5 burpees; Day 6 – 30 Flutter Kicks; Day 7 – 20 Squats ; Day 8 – 20 CDD’s (maybe); Day 9 – 20 Hillbillies (maybe); Day 10 – 2- SSH’s (maybe); Day 11 – 30 Mountain Climbers (maybe); Day 12 – 50 Moroccan Nightclubs (for sure).  I know these are the exercises we did, I am just not 100% sure of the order of things.

A little time was left so we added one lap of the Wolfpack Grinder with 10 IC Squats – Half Lap – 30 Freddy Mercury’s – Half lap

Mosey back to the start.  Brisk workout over.

It was great to have that many show for a 9 degree workout.  Before F3, not only would I have never worked out in this type of weather, I wouldn’t even consider it.  It’s always outside.  Do hard things.

My tradition on the Saturday before Christmas is to give out copies of a new book plus any I have left over from previous years.  This years book was The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.  This is an older book but one that is considered to be a classic personal development book.  Og has a large collection of similar books and titles.  I would recommend checking them out.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

Until the next one.  Aye!

It’s Been Almost a Year

For lots of different reasons, I had not Q’d a bootcamp since just before Christmas 2021.  I have led Q Source and Coconut Horse several times but not a bootcamp.  Several weeks ago, Flintstone asked me to finish off his Redwood tour today.  I reluctantly agreed not knowing what shape I would be in.  As it goes in F3 though, put it on the calendar and let’s go.

I was humbled to see so many show up to an AO that typically has 3 – 5 pax each week.

No FNG’s so let’s go.

Short warm-up with 10 SSH’s and 10 Imperial Walkers in cadence.

We then headed to Martha Rivers for an old school.

Field #4 for some Four Corners (appropriate as JJ was making excuses for the recent Tarheel basketball performances):

Round 1:  10 Merkins – 20 Squats – 30 SSH’s – 40 LBC’s

Round 2:  10 CCD’s – 20 Squats – 30 SSH’s – 40 Flutter Kicks

Mosey back over near the main picnic shelter for some 11’s across the parking lot:

Round 1:  Merkins & Squats

Round 2:  CCD’s ascending 1 – 10 on one side with 10 flutter kicks each time on the other side

This took us up to a few minutes before 0615 and we headed back to the start.

Short Sale led some Mary while also giving me a hard time for modifying.

COT – Prayer requests and announcements.

Thanks to all for coming out for my Kotter Q.

It was an honor to lead it this morning.

Until the next one.  Aye!

Failure leads to Progress

Good crowd for some mildly cold moseying at The Coconut Horse.  Most ran the normal route while two modified to a slightly shorter route.  Everyone returned safely.

Q Source covered Failure.  Unfortunately, my experience has shown me that failure is the greatest teacher and why I think it is last in the LDP.  For a leader to fully develop, he must learn to accept failure as just part of the journey to get better.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

Until the next one.  Aye!

Courage is needed to fight Chupacabras

These cool mornings are great, especially for a running AO such as Coconut Horse.  As the days get shorter, the darkness can stretch out throughout most of the run, as it does right now along the Coconut Horse route.

With Flintstone rucking (he ran 19.5 miles the day before), YHC was soloing the route.  There is definitely a Chupacabra that lives along the route through the Greenway as we have heard it multiple times as it has gotten darker.  Luckily, I knew today’s Q Source topic was Courage so I was compelled to run through the darkness and battle the deadly animal if necessary.   I guess it knew I was determined to get through the route on schedule and decided to stay in its lair today.

We had a third show to discuss  Courage and it was a lively discussion and one that is so important to F3 in my opinion.  If we are going to be the leaders that our families and communities needs, it will require some courage.  There is a battle going on to diminish the role of us men in the community and if we do not stand up, the deterioration will continue.

Remember the mission of F3 isn’t to go out and workout 20 times/week.  The mission is to use the workouts as a vehicle to invigorate male community leadership.  That’s the point.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead and be involved.

F3 is the answer to many things us men are dealing with these days.

Until the next one.

Cold Coconuts

It was cold.  Not gloomy.  Darker than last few weeks.  Time changed.

We ran.  Buckeye scared YHC with a Alfred Hitchcock type bird story.  He also pulled me along this morning.

Community Foundation Run on April 9th.

Prayers:  Roscoe’s M and family; Palmer family; my mother-in-law

Aye.

Until the next one.

Quality, Not Quantity @ Coconut Horse

It was cold.  Several regulars were in Biloxi getting their work in.  We did our thing anyway.

JJ and YHC ran while Flintstone rucked.  JJ pulled me along the route.

Whoopee showed for the Q Source discussion after on the LDP.

As usual, I did not regret getting up for the gloom.

COT with announcements, prayers and name-o-rama.

Until the next one.  Aye!
